Hi we are going to disney in Aug. my sister in law is insalin dependent she has to take 2 shots a day one in the mornning and one at night and she has to wait 15 min before she can eat. Is there any where in the park where she can go and take her shot at night, and since the inslin has to be refrigerated how will she be able to keep it cold at the parks.

Thank you,

Lisa

There are first aid centers in every park where she can, if she wants, store her insulin and go there to take her shots.

William uses an insulin pump (so no longer has shots) but when we did shots we generally would prefer to carry the insulin with us. Or perhaps store the insulin at the first aid center - go there to load the syringe - and then take the shot when she knows that she is about 15 mins away from eating. I was just thinking that if she took her shot at the first aid center then went to eat it could take longer than she expected to get seated at a sit-down place (even with a reservation) or standing in line at a fast food place, etc. She might end up going too low if she has to wait.

If she uses an insulin pen she could carry it with her in something like a frio pack. There are many places that sell them but here is an example: http://www.medicool.com/diabetes/diabetes_travel_frio?medid=g1

First have her call her pharmacist and be sure her insulin has to be refridgerated. Many types do not unless for long term storage.

If she chooses the right location on her body for her injection she should be able to discretly give it to her self at the restaraunt when she knows the food is on the way.

I drew up and gave my daughter her shot anywhere in the park. No one notices this type of thing. If they do, they don't care.

We use an insulated lunch bag to keep the cold pack in and placed the bottles of insulin in a hard eyeglass case to prevent breakage. It worked great :teeth: .

Have fun, and the Suger free brownes at Cosmic Rays are 16 carbs and very tastie :thumbsup2

Quick injection in the stomach area under the table is what I do. I do not advise running around WDW without using a method to keep it cool especially in hotter months. Insulin doesn't do well in constant heat even the ones that say they can be left out if in use.

I will pre-load a syringe with my evening dose and put it in a plastic toothbrush holder with an alcohol swab wrapped around the top of the syringe itself. This provides enough bulk so the plunger does not get accidently depressed while it is being carried. This allows me to keep the bottles in the room and not have them with me.

After I give myself the shot I will then toss the syringe back in the holder until I can dispose of it properly. If it is a really hot day I will tend to stop by First Aid and let them store the syringe for me until I need it.
