Inside vs. Oceanview

Hi there. :) My fiance and I are going on a cruise in July of 2006 for our honeymoon and trying to decide what type of stateroom to get. We would LOVE to get the verandah, but we are both in college and don't think we can afford it. I was wondering what people's opinions were on an inside room vs. an oceanview. I doubt that we will be spending a lot of time in the room, so I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $100 or so to go up to an oceanview. We thought maybe the deluxe inside would be adequate. Anyone's suggestions would be great.

Thanks a lot :flower:

DH and I cruised on NCL in 1995 in an outside room with a big window and then we cruised last summer (with the kids) on DCL in a cat 11 inside stateroom. The window is nice, but we really didn't spend much time in the room. We're going again in November on DCL (taking our nephew with us, so there will be 5 of us) and we have 2 inside staterooms. I'd rather use the savings for spa treatments or a few extra fruity drinks! ENJOY!

We cruised in a category 8 thanks to a DCL upgrade on our first cruise. On our second we booked the category 10 & got it that time. We enjoyed ourselves just as much and that was with four of us in the stateroom.

We just booked for Nov and had a similar dilemna. In the end we went for an Inside to save some $$ and to also not have the sun in our faces at whatever ungodly time it rises.

We also book inside... Cat 11's .. The verandah is nice, and the porthole, but not neccesary for our family.. Some people prefer having it. Very personal decision, based on many factors..

In the end, try and make sure you choose the category you would be satisfied with... :goodvibes

On our first cruise we were in a cat 11 (inside). Didn't have any problems with it. Didn't miss having a window or verandah (but it was a 4 nighter). Next cruise we were in a cat 10 (inside BUT with a split bath). We really liked the room and we really didn't miss the outside light to much (but we never knew if it was morning or nighttime whenever we woke up - we were on a 7 nighter). Then we cruised with the cat 10 SPH room ("secret" porthole room - not so secret any more) and we found out that we really, really like the natural light (that way you have a clue when waking up if its the middle of the night or day or sometime around sunrise). Since then we've cruised only in cat 9 rooms. My family can't justify spending the extra $$$ to move up to a verandah (why even spend the extra moving up to an 8 when the only difference is the deck that you are on).

Some people really, really like the verandah and make good use of them.

In your case, it sounds like you are going on a 3 or 4 night cruise (since the price is only $100 more). On those short cruises you're hardly in your room except for a potty break, to change clothes, take a nap (the 1am to 6am nap is counted here) an in your case hanky-panky;) . And since it's going to be your honeymoon, when you are in the room, you're not going to be interested in the view outside of your room :rolleyes1

Hey Guys-
I just talked to Dana from micdan.com and she told me about this "surprise room". She said that it has an obstructed view but we could get it for the category 10 price. It sounds like a good deal to me, but what do you guys think?? :earsboy:

Go for it if it's available. You get some outside light and if you're in the correct room, you have a good 95% view from your room. The other rooms have more of an obstruction, but hey, the price is right for some natural light.

Definitely get it!!!! We had the 5024 booked & that is the most obstructed view of the three on each side of the ship. I looked in while the door was propped open for cleaning on our last cruise & could see the blue water from the hallway. :)

5024 is the one that she told us about it. I saw a picture of the view on the internet and is pretty obstructed. All you can really see is a big part of the boat. I guess it might be nice to have a window though. :confused3
