Inside Stateroom vs. Room with Verandah

We are DVC members and are considering thinking about scheduling a three day cruise next February. We were looking through the point chart and the points are considerably less for an inside stateroom. Since we have never been on a cruise, could I please get some information on the difference between the two?? I know the stateroom with the verandah must be much more spacious, but it would be cheaper points for us to get two inside staterooms. Any information would be appreciated.

Actually, the interior is NOT more spacious!! All staterooms from Cat. 10 to Cat. 5 are the same size inside. The verandah technically adds some space, but of course that is outdoors, not actual living area.
I don't know if you can request certain staterooms via DVC, but if you can, check out the "secret porthole staterooms" on my website. If you plan to get inside staterooms, they have a "free" view even though you only pay for a Cat. 10.

We stayed in a verandah room which we loved. My hubby and I enjoyed the fresh air and having a cocktail on the balcony. But I have heard that the inside staterooms are very nice too. If a balcony is not on your list of priorities I would think that the inside would be fine for you. Make sure to bring an alarm clock though because I have read posts where the people were sleeping very, very late because it is so dark in the insides. Have a great time.

When I cruised NCL 4nights MIL & I had an inside room. Yes it was dark and small (DCL is bigger) but I only used the room to sleep & shower
Last 11/30 I had booked a cat 10 on deck 2. A few months after I booked a SPR opened up so I called DVC and asked for the room by number. Yes we can ask by room number.
This Nov DH, DS & I have a cat 6 but thats a totally different story.

Verandah. Always verandah. And ask for your room by number (have a few rooms in mind).

My experience is that once you've had a verandah you'll never go back to any other category! :D

My first 3 cruises with Disney were with a veranda (loved it) but my last one (4/17) was a cat 11. For just the two of us for a 3 day cruise, we didn't miss the veranda at all. We are hardly in the room, anyway. we got up at 6:30 am, out of the room by 7-7:30am and only back to shower, then back to room at 12-1am. If you plan to spend more time in your room, you may want to go with a veranda.
My next cruise is in a secret porthole room, 3 people. I would rather spend the extra money on drinks:D

Is there a website that lets you check on the availability of rooms? I would love to be able to search for a SPH room to see if it opens up.
Thanks
DJ

On our first 7-night cruise, we had a Cat. 6 varandah stateroom for the four of us (wife, self, 2 pre-teens). For our next 7-night cruise, I've booked two connecting secret porthole rooms instead.

A verandah is nice, but there are plenty of alternatives to a private verandah — deck 4, for example.

SimplyMagical is thinking of a 3-night cruise — where you only have two full days, and you're in port on both of those days. There won't be much time to spend on a verandah.

I wouldn't pay extra for a verandah, especially not on a 3-night cruise. But's that's just my opinion.

We recently booked our third 4-night DCL cruise, and it will be our third time in a Cat. 11. The first two times, we couldn't afford anything else, but this time, we decided we enjoyed the dark mornings so much that we didn't want anything else! We were two adults the first time, and had plenty of room, we were three adults this past December, and still had plenty of room, and we'll be two adults (and a one-night visit from granddaughter who will spend the rest of the nights with mommy and daddy in the room next door), and we'll have plenty of room again, and plenty of money left to spend on other things!

There are plenty of areas where you can just sit outside on deck and enjoy the view and the fresh air, so we haven't missed a verandah yet. I would like to add, however, that for us to see the ocean isn't a big deal, since we live two blocks from the beach when we're home.

Werner is so "right on" ( sorry, just back, did 70's night) about deck 4. DH and I spend alot of time relaxing on those great lounge chairs watching the sea with (dare I need say it) a drink in hand.
Deck 7 aft is great too, but you can't see the sea while sitting down.
