Inside room vs Verandah

We’ve always gotten an oceanview room, but since we booked our cruise so late this time, there were only inside and verandah staterooms left. We booked the inside stateroom for now, but I’m contemplating switching to the verandah. Is it worth the $350 price difference for a 3 day cruise?

Anyone that has stayed in an inside room- how are the magic portholes?

TIA! :yay:

I can't speak for the magic portholes (but they look really cool!) but we have only sail in inside rooms, once for 11 nights on the magic. We don't mind them at all and for a three-day cruise, piece of cake! I'm sure a verandah is nice and we may splurge for an Alaska voyage but not a three-day bahama...just MHO. Save the money for things on the ship.

Thanks! That's what I was originally thinking. We're really never in the room anyway. Plus, its a gty, so maybe we'll get luck and get upgraded! :yay:

Since you have cruised before, you have an idea of how much time you do or do not spend in your room. If your room is a place to change clothes and sleep, the inside is fine. If you like to hang out in the cabin, especially if you have a child napping, then less so. I've been in all 3 types. While I love the balcony when I have one, any cabin on the ship is better than not being on the ship....and the longer the cruise, the more I like the balcony.

A final factor--weather. If you are cruising in the winter, it can be too cool to enjoy the balcony while the ship is in motion.

Thanks! We don't usually spend a lot of time in the room, pretty much, changing, getting ready, etc. We're cruising in May, so I think we should be good with the weather, too :)

I hope this helps you as we were in the exact situation you are. When we had to change the date of our cruise there were only verandahs available. I had originally been booked in a 10A (deluxe inside) and it is the category I really wanted. I had no choice but to move to a verandah with the date change. I checked daily and was able to move to a &A (Navigator's verandah) and then FINALLY a few weeks later and inside stateroom opened up (11B). Although I really wanted a deluxe inside, we decided to jump on the 11B - why? Well for two reasons: 1. There isn't any other cruise line with virtual portholes and also on a 3 night cruise we know we won't be in the room much at all (too busy exploring the new, bigger ship). 2. the money that we saved will go to the extras on the boat (tips, drinks, souveniers, etc.) I am really excited about the inside stateroom and virtual porthole even if after I say - well at least I saw it. So, MHO - stay inside, save some money and get a new experience ;)

That was really helpful and makes sense. I'd rather spend the money on souvenirs and things, especially since we're hardly ever in the room anyways. Plus, the magic portholes do look cool, so it'll be interesting to see. Thanks for helping me finalize my decision :yay:

So happy to help - I agonized over it for months , but am very happy with my decision and hope you will be too. I will post my experience with the room when I get back - not much longer now! :yay:

For a 3 day cruise, I would save the $350 and keep the inside stateroom., If it was a longer cruise, I would say the $350 upgrade would be worth it.

I was in an inside cabin on the Dream and loved the virtual porthole. It's fun to be surprised by who 'drops by', and there are plenty of visitors!!:yay: As the previous poster pointed out, the cabins have plenty of room, so size isnt' a factor. For the Fantasy cruise next year, I booked a Deluxe Family/Port hole cabin (the one category I've yet to try...save the suites that is..whis I had the money for one of those. We skipped on a verandah cabin for the Fantasy since it's a January trip and weather will most likely be cooler...dare I say cold:eek:. If I were you, I'd save the bucks and enjoy the virtual porthole this time around!!
