Insanity

I did it, and I'd say the name is pretty appropriate. It is VERY difficult. I would only try to tackle it if you are already at a fairly high fitness level.

Month 1 is very tough, but do-able (again, assuming you are at a pretty good level already). Month 2 nearly killed me. the workouts are brutal, and long. If you aren't already pretty fit, don't even think about it.

Positives, it really works. If you commit to 60 days of Insanity, don't miss any workouts, and maintain a reasonably good diet, you will DEFINITELY lose weight, and you will see significant changes in your body, especially in the abs/core. On day 60, I was unquestionably in the best shape of my life (at age 38)

Negatives, it is REALLY repetititve. There are really only 3 main workouts in each month, and you do them over and over. Plus, you do the same moves, or just slight variations on those moves, across all programs. Which is to say, it gets boring after a while. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of Shaun T's style, which is essentially to say "push, push, you can do it!" over and over again

Now that I have done it once (August>>October 2010), I use individual workouts from the program for my non-running cardio days, and use resistance workouts from either P90X or Tony Horton's One on One. This prevents the boredom of doing ONLY Insanity.

Bottom line, its a very effective program, but it really needs a lot more variety. I think it works better as individual workouts incorporated into a hybrid program, but I have to admit, finishing the 60 days was extremely satisfying.

Good luck! I have tried many of the Beach Body work outs with success, but Insanity is just not something I think I could do. Right now, I am doing Turbo Fire. I really like it! It challenges me for sure, but is not too hard. I would say you need to be at a moderate fitness level to start TF. If you do decide to try Insantiy, please come back and let us know how you like it.

I am pretty fit. I just ran the Disney Full. But then I had a partial meniscectomy a week later. I am slowly recovering. I am thinking of doing this in midApril-Mid June to tone up for summer and build strength in addition to my normal running routine. After completing the 60 days I will probably do just a few days a week along with my normal running.

THanks for the input. Still undecided. I want to challenge myself. I did the 30 day shred a few times last year and it is just too easy.

I understand what you mean about being to easy and wanting to be challanged. At my gym, there is only one class/instructor that really challenges me. The Zumba classes are fun, but just easy cardio for me. Most of the spin classes are not hard core enough for me either. One spin instructor is really crazy, and I love it!

Although I like challanging cardio, I don't really like strength training. I know I need to do it, but that is not the challanging I like. I am considering Chalean Extreme. Yea, I love Chalene Johnson! The strenght training is what scares me about Insanity...all the push ups etc.

If you can run a marathon, you can do Insanity. As for 30 Day Shred (if you are referring to the Jillian Michaels dvd) Insanity is MUCH tougher.

Thanks for the info on Insanity, I was curious about it. I did just start Turbo Fire and have been doing it for 1 week and LOVE it. Some basic knowledge of aerbocis helps, I wouldn't want to start it without ever having done a class but she is really enjoyable and it's not easy but there is something about her that is very likeable.

Have you tried Chalean Extreme? Once I am finished Turbo Fire I would love to so CE, but would really like to hear a review from a real person (not the reviews they publish on their site.) As with Insanilty, I am afraid CE strenght training will be intense for me. Thanks and good luck!

Funny you should mention that I was just thinking about CE, if TF goes half as well as I think it will I am going to invest in it. According to the booklet sent with TF you can do a hybrid workout schedule as you introduce CE to your workout regime. I am going to wait until I finish the first month though, course with the amount of Mickey bars I like to eat in WDW I should just go ahead and get it!

I'm on day 5 of insanity and its...well its insane. My entire body has just been constantly sore, so I hope that means its working. The most frustrating thing about the program is that about 15-20 minutes into it I just keep needing to take longer and longer breaks. Its really hard to do all the exercises for me and it does leave me feeling a little frustrated with myself.

Don't be to hard on yourself it's only day 5 and if your sore it must be working. Congrats and keep us updated.

hang in there, the further into the program you go, the more you'll be able to do. Also, do yourself a favor and watch the video when youa re catching your breath. You'll see those ridulously fit and young and beautiful people on the video taking A LOT of breaks. Especially in month 2. I figure, if they are struggling, I don't feel so badly when I struggle.

Thanks for the encouragement. Today was my day off, and I actually strangely missed it. The insanity is rubbing off on me. Oh yeah, and the workout that I could barely get through day 2 was a lot easier on day 6, so it must already be working.

Probably the worst/best part for me is one of the workout girls has my name, Rachel, so Shaun will always be yelling at her and I feel like I'm getting personal attention ha.

:rotfl: I'm currently in the dreaded month 2, and in one of the DVDs, Tanya..the girl in EVERY dvd is missing..all thru the workout I was wondering and worring about her.."where could she be?" LOL. By the end of Month 1 you'll be able to do most reps..just as month 2 rolls around..then its back to square one!:( Good Luck.
