Here's the situation...we will be only in Orlando one day--last week in July and my boys really want to see the Harry Potter section at Universal. They are indifferent about the rest of the park. With that being said, if we wouldn't arrive until lunchtime are we insane to think that we would get on FJ etc. We thought about staying onsite but it looks like the front of line/express/room key benefit for HPotter is early entry and we would not be able to get there in time. Thoughts?

I don't know...that's peak summer season and the park is going to be nuts. I think you should wait until you have more time to spend and enjoy yourselves instead of trying to squeeze it in. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to stay onsite for early entry unless you can be there to take advantage of it. My suggestion is to wait...and there you have it. ;)

Are the crowds any better late afternoon or evening?

In July it's busy pretty much all day but we only have last summer to go on and last summer it was slammed from open to close. It's purely guesswork at this point.

It is going to be mobbed. If it gets too busy they initiate the time stamped entry ticket .Which means you get a ticket to return later..But that is just to get INTO THAT SECTION of Islands of Adventure. That is not the wait time for the rides etc.I would honestly wait unless you can get there for before opening. It does sometimes slow down in the evenings, but that is generally during less than peak travel times and can not be counted on to reliably happen for you.WWoHP is still Orlandos biggest draw right now.

thanks for the advice...I think we are now going to stay onsite one night and get there early for the early entry...if the park opens at 8 I assume we can get in at 7? Should we arrive earlier?
Can we purchase 1 park tickets at the onsite hotel desks?
