Hi! The many times I have been to Disney I always see the booths that get people to look into the DVC. However, I have never taken the time to do this. I know it has to do with points, but what exactly is it, how do you get points, how much does it cost, etc.? Thanks :)

DVC is a timeshare. it gives you the opportunity to book onsite stays in villas (not hotel rooms). you purchase a real estate contract with a certain number of pts that renew each year (and you have a limited ability to move pts up and back by one year only). there are currently some perks to membership - like a discount on wdw annual passes - but you really need to evaluate DVC ownership based on your travel habits as perks will come and go and the only thing you are really purchasing is discounted stays at disney villas.

cost varies. it is scalable to a certain extent. if you only need 5 nights in a studio (roughly the size of a hotel room) every other year, you can get by with a small contract that costs less than $5000 upfront plus $200 or so in annual dues. for a 3BR grand villa with a pool table for 2 weeks every year, your costs could skyrocket to a hundred thousand dollars upfront. cost varies considerably but you always have an upfront cost (as in buying a house) plus annual dues (like costs for furnishing, painting, landscaping that house plus utilities).

here is a good place to start:

Thank you so much. Your response and the website definitely cleared up what DVC is and how everything works :)
