Input From Those Who Used FP+ for Illum. - Not on a Dessert Party Night

I'm pretty set on using a FP+ for Illum. and I've been advised to avoid a Sparkling Dessert Party night as that takes up some of the viewing area. I'd like to hear from those who burned a FP+ on Illum., particularly if you strolled into the area shortly before the start. How was your experience?
