Ok... I should start this by saying that I love my inlaws dearly. We have had our differences in the past and I have worked hard to overcome them. We have been very close for the past few years.
My inlaws lives revolve around money. They never have it... complain that everyone else does... it goes on and on. We have tried, unsuccessfully, to help them out on many different occassions and in many different ways.
We are in the process of adopting and recently we had to change countries. We are now going to China which encourages extended family to come for the 2 week trip. My mom is already on board and my brother may be coming as well. Now, keep in mind that because of the change we will not be traveling until next summer.
We wanted to include everyone and said that we understood for whatever reason if you can't come but the invitation is open. I gave everyone a break down of the costs and a sample itinerary so they could prepare. My husband mentioned to his dad that we hoped they could come as well. My MIL called me the next day and said that my FIL was very upset that we even asked them. I mean, how could they afford it, blah, blah, blah. I was just livid. It's not like they need to come up with $2,500 tomorrow or next week.... IT'S 18 MONTHS AWAY!!!! I guess it's a sore subject for me because I see the crap they waste their money on and how irresponsible they are with their money. Believe me, I understand if you truly can't afford it or if you can't get the vacation time, or if you just don't want to go. But don't get upset because we asked. It just really ticks me off.
