My DD10 has a NASTY in grown toenail!!! I took her to the Dr and HE SAID that she doesn't HAVE an ingrown toenail, but.. her toe is swollen and it is nasty!!!! And it IS an ingrown toenail!!!!

She has been soaking it in Epson Salt water and I got her a tube of outgrow, but she lost it  So today I will be getting her another tube. What can we do for this? Anyone get these?

all I can say is OUCH!!!!!!!!! my DH gets them something terrible...I wish I could help....maybe go to a podiatrist?

Holycow

DH got his surgically fixed. The more he dug, the more it became ingrown. Now he has no problems. BTW, he said it didn't hurt when they "took care of it".

surgery? :(

She gets them alot, but my sister was here to help her, I have NO clue what she did.

My husband has been having ingrowing toe nail problems for nearly a year now. He eventually had to go see a podiactric surgeon as every time the chiropodist removed part of his nail the skin kept growing back over the top of it so he was back to square one. Last week he had to go see a podiactric surgeon who (under anasthetic) removed part of his nail and put acid on the nail bed to stop it growing back. He said he was glad he had it done though as the discomfort of the operation (it took 10 minutes at the most) and the after effects didn't hurt any where near as much as having an ingrowing nail. I know his case was extreme (he was the only patient the chiropodist had not been able to cure in the 15 years she had been working!) but his became that bad due to the fact he did't get is sorted properly when the problem first occured.

If you can I would get your daughter to see a podiatrist as soon as possible.

Just my opinion, but if I took one of my kids to the doctor and was "dismissed" about the problem, I would find a new doctor. If its bothering her that much, she needs to have some type of medical help. And, if it's infected, I would be concerned about the infection spreading.

I've had a problem with ingrown toe nails in the past. After repeated infections, they were "fixed" by a podiatrist. I've never had a problem since.

I've got a suggestion that worked for my daughters. They used to get them a lot. Just for the record, I love my doctor. lol

Ok, get some cotton balls. Tear off the tiniest piece you can. This part will hurt, but they can handle it. It does work.
Put the tiny piece under the least hurtful part of the nail. The next day, change it, using another teeny tiny piece, but add another teeny tiny piece just beside it towards the ingrown part.

Every day or every other day, depending on how they stand it, keep putting tiny bits of cotton under the nail. As you get to the ingrown part, it will be lifting the nail up out of the skin.
It does not feel good, but it's less scary than surgery and it really does work.
Using toothache medicine on the area beforehand helps.

I told her I was going to have her toe cut off. :p :p

She doesn't seem to mind the pain, she is going skating tonight

But it LOOKS NASTY!!!!

And... the Dr that said she didn't have one was what my other DD calls him "the quack" of the office! He is the practitioner? And he is an idiot!!!
