I have had a lot of emails about ING banking and people on the boards wanting the facts without having to look through the entire thread. I thought I would post the facts I know about ING if anyone else has anything else to add, please feel free to add your input... :)

What is INGDIRECT banking?
ING is an online FDIC insured bank paying you interest on your savings account currently 2.10%

Account opening: To open your account you must deposit a personal check drawn on your checking account or authorize us to electronically transfer funds from your checking account for as little as 1.00$ As part of the account opening process, they will link your INGDIRECT account to your checking account.

Deposits: You can make deposits by calling or using our interactive website to electronically transfer funds from another INGDIRECT account or linked account via automated clearing house (ACH) entry or mailing a check. If you make a deposit via ACH entry, chech, draft or other instrument, they will generally make the money available to you after 5 business days. A 10 business day hold will be placed on your account as of the date of the account opening. As with all non-cash deposits to your account, interest will begin to accrue no later than the second business day following the banking day on which funds were deposited.

Types of accounts:
1)Individual accounts. an individual account is an account in the name of the depositer only.Only that person can make withdrawels or transfers from the account.
2)joint accounts. A joint account is owned by two persons.
husband and wife or parent and child.

At this time you can get a referral from someone who is already an account holder and when you make your initial deposit( can be as little as $1) you will get $25 you will not get the $25 if you sign up through the website you must get a referral and most of us on this board have them so just PM or email someone and if they have a referral they'll be glad to send you one in your email , you must give your full name and email address for a reply.Do not post on the board asking for a referral, it will not be honored.By the way, beside the $25 for signing up, you have 25 referrals that you too can give out and when someone signs up under you they get $25 and you get $10 so, that's $250 for referring people.

I hope this is informative for some of you asking for just the facts about ING banking.

:) Have a great week everyone

Here is the official ING thread in the Reward Board. It's permanently stuck at the top of the Reward Board.

Here is the thread by moderator BethR with the board's policy on ING referrals and PMs etc...

Both of these threads are very informative and worth reading.

I want to add that all referral money is considered interest.

You cannot touch referral money for 30 days.

You will need to verify your checking account (takes a couple of days) but meanwhile you can still start referring friends and family and can set up a re-occuring transfer in to your ING account either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly which is great. I do monthly myself.

You will get $25 for each member in your family that opens an account and $10 for referring each of them. You can even use your children's accounts for referrals as well when yours run out!

You can use the same checking and email address for your whole family.

There are NO fees whatsoever.

There is no debit card available.

I LOVE my ING account and they have GREAT customer service for the past 6 months!

Thanks for posting this information! I just recently opened my account and am going to open one for my kids, too. Can my husband open a separate account even though we currently have a joint account?

No, unfortunately, it's one account per Social Security Number.

I just opened up my account last week, and that $25 bonus is great!!!

This will be my "trip" savings account.

Actually, my husband and I both opened ING accounts, even though we used a joint checking account. We both got the $25 sign on bonus. BeattyFamily is right, ING gives you one account per Social Security number, however, both you and dh can open seperate accounts. One can open an account in two ways--go directly to www.INGDirect.com, follow their links, and establish an account. Or, if one has a referral from an existing customer, they also get a $25 sign on bonus if they go through the referral. You then get 25 more referrals to send out to family and friends. For everyone who opens an account through your referral you then get a $10 sign-up bonus for each person you referred. When I opened our accounts, we got $130 right off the bat--$25 sign on bonus for me, then I referred my dh and two kids. They each got $25 sign on bonus, plus I got $10 for each referral, or $30, for signing up my family. So that's 4 x $25 = $100 + 30 = $130. I've received more money from other referrals I've sent out and so far have made about $300 in referral money alone! Also, its a great way to save. The account currently pays 2.10% interest, with no minimum balance, no transaction fees, no maximum transactions per month, and you can make transactions as little as $1. Our money market currently pays 0.18% interest, with a $2500 minimum balance! Note this is NOT a checking account. You don't have a debit card, and don't have "instant" access to your money. You funnel your transactions through your current checking account. To make a deposit you first deposit it to your checking account, then do a transfer to ING, usually by EFT (electronic funds transfer). To make a withdrawl, you do the opposite. So there is a few days turn around time. That makes it an even greater way to save because you can't just dip into it for whatever. I started my account after reading about it on this board and with a referral from someone on Disboards. I've earned enough through referrals alone for one rt plane ticket to WDW! It all adds up!:genie: :wizard: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Thank you for this info! I just signed up with ING (thanks for a fellow Diser)
I am just waiting for my account to be verified, then I plan on opening one for my son & my husband to get those referrals :)

jacksonsmom ~ You do not have to wait to add your DS and DH. You only have to verify your account one time and you can add your family before it is verified... :)

I joined on Friday and I've already been verified and the $25 has been deposited. Thanks, everyone, for all the great information on this.

Welcome to the 'club'!

I just remember something to add to this ING thread!

If you have Microsoft Money you can open an account with the provided link within MM and get a $50 bonus instead of $25!! You will need a valid MM Serial Number to do this.

You can also use Turbo Tax to get $50. I did that for DD since we'd get more money that way.

I couldn't find my box for this years version, so I used the key code off of last years turbo tax and it still worked...

WOW guys, thanks! We have not opened accounts yet. I think DH has Money and I think I have turbotax around here somewhere! I'll have to look!! What a great bonus!!

O.K. you guys have gotten me all excited about this ING thing. I have Microsoft Money 2004 so I was trying to sign up thru that to get the $50. I cant figure out how to do it. I have the serial number from "About Microsoft Money" but I dont see a link in the software anywhere. Can someone please let me know how to go about this?

Thanks, this is awesome info!!!:Pinkbounc

It was under the Main page in the "financial provider highlights" area. Also, when you go into the 'Account list' I see it again at the bottom left side.

This ad/link button changes. If you get into MM and it's not for ING, log out and get back in! I just did it and it was different, it was an ad/link to buy stocks but I got out of MM and got back in and there it was, a button for ING $50. Just click on it and it's very simple from there on!

so basically, it's like an ad banner and it will change back and forth between the ING ad/link and the other one.

Go back and try this! Let me know if you finally get it!

Thanks! I didn't know that. I was going to wait, but why wait...more referrals equals more money!!!! ;)

Wow!! Sounds like a lot of people are taking advantage of ING!! I really love my account--i am saving for my trip to disney next year! Just wanted to tell everyone who opened new accounts Congrats!!!!

I also used the Turbo Tax link and got my $50.

Unfortunately...and please correct me if I'm wrong...the Turbo Tax promo expired 6/1/04. :(

I opened DH account on 06/12 with turbo tax and it still worked.

Also, as stated previously, I didn't have the box for this years turbo tax anymore so I entered the key-code from last years box.

It still worked that way....
