Informal Poll: Dream vs Fantasy wear and tear

My wife has said that she feels like the Fantasy shows a little more wear and tear than the Dream. We were thinking that because the Dream housed shorter cruises, passengers had less time to overuse the facilities. Whereas since the Fantasy had longer cruises, people had more time to settle into the ship thus using everything more.

We were wondering if anyone else had a similar impression. Or are we imagining something not really there.

I've never noticed any difference. It could just be a timing thing or luck of the draw with the room you had. On both cruises, they are constantly clean, painting, polishing, just nonstop upkeep. Either way, the staterooms are occupied 7 days a week.

I haven't been on the Fantasy in years, but honestly I'd think the 3 day/4 day turn over on the Dream would be more wear and tear.

That said, As had been stated, Disney is constantly painting and polishing and repairing. You have to be crawling around on the deck looking for spots of wear and tear. (And trust me, I've seen a few pictures where the ONLY way the person could have seen the places they were photographing was to be crawling around on the deck looking underneath everything.)

I’ve always said the same about the Magic and Wonder - I’ve always felt the Magic showed more W&T. It will be interesting to compare later this year as I sail them both within a few months of each other.

The Magic is the oldest sister.

I can't tell any W&T difference between Fantasy and Dream. Now Fantasy and Magic? Of course but with the age difference that is to be expected.

I was just on the Fantasy. I did notice some paint chipping off on our veranda but otherwise the ship looked great.

Completely agree, at least with regard to interior spaces. Embark/debark is far more abuse than sea days.

This won't matter for too much longer anyways because the Wish is kicking the Dream down to Miami to take over the Magic's 4/5 Bahamas rotation (DOUBLE DIP!) and the Magic is going to New Orleans.

But isn't that temporary, since DCL signed a contract with Fort Laud for 2023 when the Dream heads to Europe? They are planning 2 ships for FLL in 2025.

Europe is summer season only though, and by 2025 we might have DCL6, and possibly Lighthouse Point.

Fort Lauderdale is replacing Miami right? No in addition.
All I know is it's going to be a 2nd year round home port and which ships, was still undecided. However there is a reference to Magic and Dream class ships supposedly listed in the agreement.

Yes, I agree. The vibration in the aft of the Fantasy is still a problem in a way it never has been on the other ships. I sailed her a few weeks ago, and during my first dinner at Palo, there were noticeable vibrations all through dinner, and separately from that, there was a mild but definitely noticeable high-pitched buzzing sound coming from one area of the dining room. At Palo, you wouldn't expect that kind of issue. Fortunately, when I ate at Palo again that cruise, I was seated in a different area & heard nothing.

I also had to deal with the pipes backing up in my stateroom, so that bubbling, grey water came up through the shower drain, both floor drains, and both sinks. Maintenance had to come twice to work on it and never fully resolved the problem, which included my shower never draining fast, so I always showered with an inch of water on my feet.

Prefer the Dream.

I had to stuff all the towels around the tv to keep it from rattling. The Host never removed them or asked. I'm sure he knew why I put them there or he just thought I was nuts.

Where did you see this news. We just took our first cruise out of Miami in February and appreciated the short distance from the airport and cruise terminal. So much so that we were thinking that we might prefer to leave out of south Florida rather than Port Canaveral. I figure FLL might be similar to Miami.

On European 2023 port schedules, there is a Disney ship listed with a capacity that can only mean Dream Class. People are guessing that means the Dream though I guess it could be the Fantasy.

The reason it has been "guessed the DREAM" is because that is the ship doing 3 or 4 day and that is what the WISH will be doing, The FANTASY always does 7 day. Yes, that could change though.
