My husband is a huge Star Wars fan, and we want to visit Disney world in May, when these weekends have been held in the past. When I called 407-w-disney, I was told that they do not divulge that info until 1 mo before. I want to plan our trip now. Can anyone provide me any info???????????

Thanks

Welcome to the DISboards!

I went to the first SW weekend this past May (I was there 5/15 - 5/20) purely by accident. I had planned teh trip in November, and it was not my intention to be down there for SW weekend (actually, I don't think they had tehm the year before) but i got lucky! I am a HUGE SW fan! whiel i did not get to see much (the vacation was for my grandma who has Parkinson's & not really for me) but I am glad I went. I did not find out about the weekend until maybe Fed. or March. You might want to make ressies for around the 2nd or third week of may, and play it by ear for a few months.

You might get more help posting this thread on the theme park board. Maybe one of the mods can move it over.
Again, welcome!

Consider it moved.

Do a search for Star Wars weekends on the official star wars website. I heard about this last year and we're now planning to go this year, if WDW continues to have it. I'm pretty sure it encompasses the last 2-3 weekends in May and the first 2 weekends in June. There's a bunch of cool pics from 2003 on the stars website - starwars.com

At last years Star Wars weekends, they had a breakfast with the guy who played Chewie for only the official fans. So it might be a good idea to become an "official" star wars fan club member - I'm going to enroll my hubby for xmas.

I hope that helps you a little. :D

Unfortunately the info that you got from WDW is fairly accurate. Information may begin to circulate in February or March, but it may not get very concrete until April or May.

Note that in 2002 the event was only one weekend, and wasn't nearly as planned / organized as it had been in the past. Due to the release of the last movie in May '02, George Lucas snubbed Disney in favor of his own promotional efforts.

So, consider that your word of warning. I don't believe there are any long-standing agreements which compel both parties to put on the event. If anything between Lucas and the Mouse goes south in the next 6 months, there may not be a 2004 event.

Just keep thsi in the back of your mind -
You have to get there arly if you wnat an autogragh. Luckily, I got the heads up last Star Wars Weekend from the boards.

You have to RUN to the tables to get an arm band. If you want more than oen autogragh forget it unless you party splist up.
(Imagine me trying to push a stroller thru thsi madness.) Hubby wanted C3PO, but I got to hsi atbel so I had to get his autogragh cause they put hsi armband on me. Hubby ened up with Lando.

Then you ahve to coem back and wait in line again at the assigned time right in the heat and sun. UGH!!! Not worth the time we wasted.

Persoanlly, I thought the set up stunk. I never saw any info about having to get an arm band anywhere on our trip. Numerous times whiel I was waiting in line for the autogragh kids came walking up thinking they coudl just get in line only to be told they had to have the arm band. Several paresnt were quite mad stating no one ever told them this.

Despite thsi my 5 year odl thought it was cool to meet the man who wore C3PO's costume. He was quite an interesting fello!

I was there with three early teens who were blown away by the stormtroopers standing on top of the ticket turnstiles. Then we watched from a distance while young boys were given Jedi lessons and saw lots of characters wandering around near the Star Tours ride. It was great! If I had a SW fanatic in my own family I'd make it a must do.

here's a link with two pics of us at SW weekend last May. Just scroll down and you'll see us.

I will agree with crazyforgoofy that seeing the storm troppers up on the gate roof was pretty exciting, hubby and I are fans, my oldest thought it was very cool, too. I woudl say that was consolation for having to get there so early to run for thsoe autogragh arm bands. :p

My best advice is to book something for when they usually have the Star Wars weekends....and if they don't have it, just cancel. This is what we ended up doing in 2002. Even though we had booked with DVC points we were able to use them later in the year.

We are trying again this year, though not so much exclusively for the Star Wars weekend.....we wanted to go again sometime this winter (Jan-March) but now we've got a baby coming in March....so we put off the trip until May and figured that we get a bonus of Star Wars weekend if they happen. My dh and 8yo ds are Star Wars freaks....so hopefully we won't get skunked again!

Thanks for the warning about the autographs! I don't know if my guys will want to get any or not....I think they're mostly interested in seeing lots of Stormtroopers! And my ds would love to join in any sort of Jedi Academy!
