We are leaving in less than 10 days for POR and YC, would
appreciate any new tips or suggestions for both or either
resort. We never stayed at either one. We have a standard room at both resorts. What do you thinkmy chances of upgrade is because of busy August season?
Thank you.

Well, we've stayed at both and they are totally different. I'll try to help as much as I can...

Our YC stay was an "adult only" stay....and our POR stay has been and will be (this week) with children.

(Pros and Cons)

YC - (pros) location on the Boardwalk, eating at Beaches and Cream (located between the Yacht and Beach Club), being able to walk to Epcot and of course, Storm Along Bay. (cons) - kind of a "stuffy" atmosphere, a very long walk from our room to the pool area - even though our room overlooked Storm Along Bay, this resort definately has a "hotel" feel.

POR - (pros) the boat ride to DTD, the beauty of the grounds (just can't be beat), the secluded feel of the bayou area (our favorite). I personally enjoyed this area much better than the "hotel" feel of the YC and I felt we had just as long of a walk to the lobby and pool at the YC as we did at POR. Another plus (especially if you're traveling with children) is the food court. There is no food court at the YC and those sit-down meals will really add up quickly. The convenience of the food court is a must (in my opinion) when you're traveling with children.

Hope this helps....both are wonderful resorts!!! If it were just DH and myself, I'd return to the YC. I know my kids would love the pool area there, but the convenience of POR wins out for us if you have kids.

Hi TwinMom7! We will also be at POR at week's end! This will be our first time at this resort. I have read several of your posts, thanks for all the good info. We arive on Saturday, Aug. 3 for six nights.

Our boys are 10, 14, 18 and 20--looking forward to turning them loose at POR! How old are yours?

[I never did take the time to figure out the bouncing smilies, or the countdown, but believe me, there is some major bouncing and counting going on around here this week!]

Hi Dottie!!

We're arriving on Thursday and will be checking out on Sunday - and then on to Grandma's house at the beach for 3 more days!!

Our plans are to spend Thursday evening at Downtown Disney and then do the MK on Friday, with breakfast at 1900 Park Faire and dinner at 'Ohanas. On Saturday, we're going to do either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon - the kids choice. On Saturday night, we're meeting other family members and doing an "adult night" at Jelly Rolls on the Boardwalk. I've requested a late check out for Sunday and we'll just lay around by the pool until it's time to drive the hour to Grandma's house.

Our kids ages are 14 (boy) and 10 (girl). These are our two youngest (of seven children), and the last two we have at home!!!

Another area of the resort that your boys will love is the Medicine Show Arcade...located in the Main Buildings - near the Marina.

Have a great Disney stay!!!

You're going to have a great time. Here is some information that I thought you might want to know.

Yacht Club: The pool at this resort is the BEST on Disney property (IMHO) and your kids will have a great time there including the water slides, free flowing river, tubes and sand at the bottom of the pool make this an ever changing experience. The pool is so big, there will definitly be parts you miss. And just being that close to Beaches and Cream for a quick ice cream sundae or old-fashioned burger- always hits the spot. The YC location is everything. You have access to everything at the BC, BWI, BWV, Swan and Dolphin and you are quick boatride to MGM and EPCOT. Because you are so close to other resorts you get the best of all the hotels in the area including lots of dining/activity options and especially the Boardwalk at night. This is a very kid friendly resort b/c of the great pool and location to EPCOT/MGM. In my opinion the overall feeling at the resort is not stuffy, but classy.

POR is wonderful as well. I have stayed several times. The boat ride to DTD is very relaxing and just the peace and quiet is worth only having bus transportation to the parks.

Have a wonderful trip!
