Who's stayed at DoubleTree Hotel Universal?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've stayed here can you please provide any information.
How are the rooms?
The restaurants & service?
Shuttles to Universal and Seaworld?
They say its a 5 min walk to Universal, is this accurate?

This hotel would definitely be more in my budget right now than staying at one of the Universal Hotels.
I've stayed at Hard Rock before and loved how close that was. We enjoyed walking to the parks every day.

Never stayed , but i know its not much of a walk to the parks.
KY07 stayed here for a time last year, sure he will be on and give you some info and pics.

i think robbie/andy has also stayed there last fall. (rapstar)
hopefully if he has, he will add his thoughts too

My girlfriend and I stayed there for one of our first trips to Universal. It's a good hotel, however, we did the walking to the park thing and I don't think I would do that again. It's not so much the walk TO the park but more the walk BACK from the park. It's not something I want to do after standing in lines all day.

Me and the girlfriend have stayed there 3 times within the last year or so. If we're not staying at the HR or the Crowne Plaza on Universal this is the hotel we prefer. Close to the park, the staff is always friendly, rooms are clean with a comfy bed, and warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in. The only downfall of this hotel is the fee to park at the hotel which is $9 self and I think $12-15 valet.

Thank you for the info so far. Hopefully there will be more coming.
When I go on vacation I like to be able to stay where I don't have to get a car. Don't really like driving that much. The last two times I've been to Disney and Universal I stayed onsite and didn't drive.

I loved the Doubletree. The room we had was nice and big enough for the 2 of us. They were nice and gave us a park view too. There's a nice little food court on property. The food was pretty good. The walk isn't bad at all. And if you get tired and wanna take a cab, it's only like $5, maybe less.

The Doulbetree is a nice clean hotel and is nothing fancy but friendly staff.
never ate a the onsite restaurants except for the pizza hut they have but there are some good places to eat like TGI Fridays across the street and craker barrel and golden coral andthe walk to unversal is a 10 min walk and taxi is like $5.00 and here are some pics of standard queen room

We have been looking into the Doubletree for our trip as well and for the price I tend to be leaning toward it rather than the Hard Rock or other Universal hotels.

I have seen in a couple of places that there is an early park entry "perk" for staying at the Doubletree? Is this true or is it just for the Universal hotels?

If you booked a package through universal resorts, they do have some perks.

i am unaware of any promo for early entry to the parks for this hotel.

you can call universal to get the correct answer if that will be your deciding factor to make a ressie for that hotel.

The room was a nice size - ours had two full (or queen?) beds, a very small sofa (or an oversized chair?), and the desk.

Staff was very polite and friendly.

Didn't use the restaurants, except for the Starbucks (b/c we didn't care for the Wolfgang Puke coffee pods provided in the room).

Didn't use the shuttles, but the walk to Universal took about 5 - 10 minutes, depending on our pace and whether or not we had been drinking (I wlk super fast when I am between tipsy and drunk).

We ate at the Cracker Barrel nearby - huge breakfast for a very good price - adn there was also a TGI Fridays, a bar/restaurant and a Japanese steak house near by.

I would absolutely stay there again.

I'm here right now at a business meeting. I have a PAP for WDW, so I'm not going to Universal, but I can see it from my window. Some of the others attending the meeting have walked over to City Walk at night and thought it was very doable.

The room is very nice as are the staff. I see an offer for 3 nights, 4 days for $99, but you have to take the Hilton Grand Vacation Club tour to get it.

I haven't eaten here at all other than the food we get at breaks during our meeting. And that was pretty good. Especially the cookies.

If you are driving, it's very convenient from I-4. Exit 75B (going East on I-4) and right at the next light. About 8-9 miles from WDW.
