Here is the info about the Thermostats installed at BCV and also in some of the other WDW Hotels. I will try not to be too technical or longwinded.
The Thermostat is made by Inncom International. Model # E4
The Thermostat operates in two modes occupied and unoccupied.
When the Entrance door to the room is opened a magnetic switch in the door ( or the electronic door lock ) tells the Thermostat to go to occupied mode, if the motion detector (mounted on the thermostat) senses a person in the room within preset time ( 5 to 10 minutes this is adjustable) it will stay in the occupied mode UNTIL the door is opened again. If the Thermostat does not sense a person in the room within that time it will go the the Unoccupied Mode.
How the Motion Detector works, Quoted from the Manufacturer
"Motion inside a guestroom is detected by the occupancy sensor (PIR) built in to the E4 thermostat, or by an external motion sensor (PIR) that is connected to the E4. The PIR simply detects changes in INFRARED ENERGY EMANATING from A PERSON IN MOTION. As the person MOVES within the detection range of the PIR, the PIR output signal pulses. These Pulses are detected by the E4 which then declares the room as occupied."
The Unoccupied Temperature for AC will be set from 5 to 10 degrees higher than the Occupied.
By letting the Thermostat Automatically Go to higher AC Room Temperature when the room is Unoccupied Disney is savings Hundreds of $$ on wasted Energy for each room.
