Info needed on shipping non-perishables, please?

Hello,

Any advice would be great. I am interested in shipping a box of non-perishables to the hotel. How do I go about this? Should the package arrive the day we arrive, before, or after?

Do I ship the package directly to the hotel address that I will be staying at (POR)?

Do I send it to the attention of a specific department?

How long will the hotel hold it for us?

Is there a maximum weight or size that can be shipped?

Any info would be great. I will be using Mears so wont have a chance to stop off at a grocery store. I will pick up the perishable items at the general store at the hotel but would like to ship as much as possible. Thanks!!!!

We send our packages UPS. This way there is a tracking paperwork.

Use the address of the resort itself, no P.O. boxes. No special department. We ship UPS ground three day, so the package will get there the day before we arrive. The resorts frown upon packages coming too early. The have told me that they would reject the package if it arrives more than three days before you.

On the package itself, put your name and reservation number and arrival date on a couple of sides. If you wrap the box in paper, also put the information on the box itself.

I am not sure what the weight limit is for UPS (it is more than Parcel Post at the Post Office). We have sent boxes weighing about 30 pounds.

I shipped a box in January the week before we left so it actually arrived 4 days before we did. I shipped UPS so I could follow the tracking number to see when it arrived.

I called the disney main number and got the address for all star movies and on the box i wrote " hold for guest, jennifer johnson arriving on 2/28/04" on all the sides.

When I checked in, the check-in CM called over to luggage assistance to be sure it was there and they just had me go to the luggage desk and show my ID. They even delivered it to my room.

I have a box already started and it is already 22 lbs. It has BIG activity books, plastic bowls, playdoh, disney gifts and activities that i purchased here (this cuts down on my spending). I also will put in cereal, popcorn, candy/treats etc. It is approx. $21 to ship a 30 lb. box to orlando from minneapolis.

Maximum weight for UPS is 150 lbs per box. Maximum size for UPS is 165 inches, length plus girth.

(Length - the longest side of a package or object, Girth - the distance completely around the package or object at its widest point perpendicular to its length)

If your package length + girth is between 84 and 108 inches, and weighs less than 30 pounds, you will be charged the 30 pound rate, regardless of the actual weight. This is what UPS refers to as "Oversize 1" (there are also Oversize categories 2 and 3, but I think it's unlikely to end up with a box that big just for a vacation.)

Only address the box on one side. It's also recommended that you NOT wrap the box in paper, as the paper could get caught in the UPS conveyor systems, and shred. Similarly, UPS drastically prefers you use packing tape, rather than duct tape, scotch tape, or masking tape. (in most cases, scotch tape and masking tape won't hold a box closed through the duration of it's trip)

The UPS near me won't accept a package in brown paper at all. I can't tell you how many people I see in there having to take the paper off. Why would anyone put brown paper on it anyway? UPS has no problem with you shipping in manf. boxes (I.E. a vacuum box). Also, Fed-Ex ground is about 30% cheaper than UPS ground, so I would use them over UPS.

Personally I disagree with using Fed-Ex ground... but then again, UPS keeps the roof over my head and my children fed, so I guess I am a bit partial!!

Seriously, if you call 1-800-pick-UPS and tell them what zip code it is coming from and which it is going to, they can tell you how many days. For example, DH knew that it would be four days for our package to reach our resort in Kissimee. I mailed it one day early, just in case... we were arriving on a Friday, so if the package didn't arrive that Friday, we wouldn't have had it until Monday. It arrived just as it should on Thursday and was waiting for me. I had called the resort ahead to let them know to expect it and they had it at the front desk for me when I checked in. (I also included my name, arrival date, and hotel confirmation number on the outside of the box, as well as on a slip of paper inside the box.) I included a jar of Goober Grape, loaf of wheat-free bread for DS, juice boxes, granola bars and such, and they all arrived just fine! BTW, we did have a rental car and all, but I was concerned about finding the appropriate foods for my son who has some allergies, so I felt it was worth the peace of mind to mail of box of necessities ahead of time!..................P

There's a reason Fedex ground is cheaper ... they won't guarantee an arrival date (UPS does, even on ground packages), and their handling system isn't as well developed as UPS' is, so it's more likely your package will be delayed and/or damaged before it gets to you.

(Disclaimer: I am NOT a UPS employee, however, I am an employee of a UPS authorized shipping outlet. My manager cancelled our Fedex ground accounts after too many problems with them)

Save the box that you ship to yourself at your resort... JUST in case you need it when packing up your souvenirs and such... you can go to guest services and ship the box back to yourself with the extras that might not fit in your suitcase... they've even provided the tape and everything we needed to do so.
