As some of you know from previous posts, my honey travels a lot with her job. She works for a medical software company and trains doctors and their staffs on how to use the electronic medical records part of the company's program. Well, in 2008, she is going to be spending a lot of time in Salt Lake City, UT. She was ok with going out there until she learned through a coworker that the site had made a couple of special requests about the people sent out to their office. The requests.....#1 don't send any gays and #2 don't send any black people.
So, now she's ticked off and a bit spooked about spending so much time in Mormonland. The company she works for knows that she is gay. The company that she works for is very much an equal opportunity employer. While the company founders are a straight white family, the employees are all races and there are a large number of gay people there too, including her boss!
The first part of the software deployment is always the billing software side of things. Her company sent out a gay white man and 3 black women for that deployment.
To rub their noses in it a little further, they are sending out my honey, a very queenie gay male, and two straight white girls with close gay family ties.
Well, I laugh about it, but I also worry about Gabby. She really doesn't handle this sort of bigotry well. She is very upset with having to deal with it at all and the site has a real horse's butt for an office manager. They have totally unrealistic expectations about the ability of 4 people to train 45 doctors and their staffs on how to use the EMR software. They want one-on-one training....not gonna happen with roughly 21 days of training spaced over roughly 5 weeks, with lots of ground to cover!
So, I am begging for help from those of you in the know about Salt Lake City. Are there any gay friendly gyms? Are there any gay friendly restaurants? Normally, she doesn't worry so much, but with the Mormon thing being so huge out there, she's pretty spooked. TIA for any assistance that you can provide. Maggie
