I called Poly, GF and WL today to try to find out what type of price they offer for upgrades at check-in. Below was what I was told:

WL - I reserved woods view, upgrade to concierge if available is $45 plus tax

GF- upgrade can be done based on availability and the price is the difference between rack rate of the room type of what you currently have and the rack rate of the upgraded room, regardless of what your rate is.

Poly - I am not sure if this is right, but I was told that you have to pay up to the rack rate of whatever room category in order to get an upgrade.

Do these sound right?

Thanks:D

I'm not sure if I follow you, Are you asking that if you get to the hotel and decide at that point you might want a different room category and ask for the upgrade to pay for it what the price is? I could only see the resorts telling you the standard price list. If they give you a complimentary upgrade (which is hard to get) it is free. You can always ask at check in if a complimentary upgrade is available? but you may or may not get it. Best advise would be that if you really want concerige or waterview or whatever just try to get it now and arrange it before getting there and try to get a code or discount price as it is available, now? Out of all my trips to WDW we have gotten upgraded once. and that was from a mistake on the YC part. we had guaranteed non-smoking waterview and it was not available so they upgraded us to waterview concerige, but that is once in over 50 trips? Some resort chains do have specials at the front desk and offer last minute deals but disney really is not know for this. Maybe someday.;)

Out of all the trips we had made to WDW, we NEVER received any free upgrade. So this time, I am trying to figure out, for example, if upon check-in, if there is availability, how much would cost to either get a lagoon view room or concierge, and how the pricing is determined.

I think WL's $45 is a great deal, and was trying to see if other resorts have something similar to fill up the higher priced rooms by offering discounted rate upon check-in.:D

The reason why I called the resorts directly was because the for our next stay, we are paying a discounted rate due to POFQ relocation. The CM at relocation told me that they can only offer standard view rooms at Poly and GF, and no concierge rooms are offered. They can only be done at check-in. I would have opted to stay at Poly if we can pay reasonable price for an upgrade to the concierge level. But based on what I was told today by Poly, the $$ is too much to choose the conceirge at check-in except for WL.

Generally, without any discounts, an upgrade to concierge is the difference between rack rate of the room type you have and concierge.

I know that WL does sometimes offer discount upgrades to concierge at check-in based on availability, but I don't think it's all that common to have anything available. The only time I've read about it happening was during very slow periods when the occupancy rate was very low.

I think the confusion comes in because WL apparently gave you what the "at check-in" discount upgrade cost would be while the others gave you the standard prices.
