Info about the bike path at HHI resort

I am interested to know if we choose to rent bikes at HHI resort if we went to the beach in the evening and took the bike path would we have lighted access?? Is it worth it to rent bikes at HHI?? Thanks for the info.

We really could not get much info about HHI before we went there. It doesn't seem like there are a bunch of HHI owners on these boards. We went last Sept. for our first trip and walked from the resort to the beach access. We took the bus back to the resort. With that said, I am not sure about lighting along the way , because our travels were during daylight hours. I will try to give you a mental picture of what is along the way however. When you leave the resort area you will actually travel under the only main road you have to cross. It is like you are moving through large parking areas to that point. Then when you crossover, you are parrelling a road that goes by many entrances to other subdivisions and even golf couses ( but not a major thoroughfare) before you get to where you are going. Huge trees covered with Spanish moss along the way being very pleasant. The bike paths are added on to the side of the road with plenty to ride along as long as a vehicle doesn't drift over, because it is not separated from the road. We felt very comfortable in the daylight, but not so sure about in the dark unless very well lit.

There will be some lights and you will get lights from cars and houses but you won't have any bright lights in the evening, especially near the beaches. HHI tries to be sea turtle friendly which means keeping the lights down low so the baby turtles know the right direction to head for the sea.

Riding bikes on the beach is wonderful so it is worth doing at least once during your stay. We go to HHI every year (not Disney) and couldn't live without our bikes.

Thank you for the detailed info reguarding thr bike paths. We were hoping to take a evening stroll on the beach and heard that the path is not lite well. I sounds to be very picturesque along the way. We are going to this resort for the very first time on May 24th so we are trying to gather as much info as we can. How is the beach house area?

Thanks for the info. Do you have bikes for your entire stay or do you just have them for a few days? Would you say you would use the bikes often to get around the resort and shelter cove? If so are there bike corrals to keep your bikes at and hopefully not in our rooms. How long does it take by bike to get to the beach? Thanks for the help!

I'm thinking of the little wooden bridge going under the main road and cringing at the thought of someone trying to negotiate that at night. I fell off my bike during the day there! And although I'm not sure, I doubt that area down there is lit. HHI overall tends to be very poorly lit at night. It's easy to get lost at night, miss turn-offs, etc. It's all part of HHI's measures to stay "natural".

Thanks much I was thinking the same thing. I think it souunds like we would be better off ventureing this during day light hours. After a full day of sun and our highly spirted 3 yr old my husband may lose his balance lol.

Ah! But it's so nice to look up at night and really SEE the stars! As someone else pointed out, a lot of it has to do with the sea turtles.



It's light until nearly 9pm in late May, so as long as you plan ahead, riding to the beach can be a lot of fun.

Yes the stars sound so enchanting. The sea turtles seem to run the roost so I will respect the sweet turtles and head out earlier so we can enjoy the inviting atmoshere of the resort. Thanks!!

It is a mile from the resort to the beach house but well worth it daylight hours are fine but like any towns at night they would like for you to have lights on your bikes. If there by car you can always drive over as there is plenty if parking. also the shuttle runs but hours vary with the season.
