Sports authority has the coleman instant 10 person tent on sale. It would be perfect for our family. The tent we currently have is too small but the roof is also made of screen and there is just a rain cover that goes over. We are tenting at christmas time so it could possibly be very cold. I would like to know if the instant tent has a solid roof and sides where if we used a small heater fan it would help keep the heat in the tent? If I buy this one then we will all sleep in this one and I will use the one we have now for storage of clothes and other things.

From looking at those it has a mesh top with an optional rain cover you can purchase separately. I can tell you from over the summer our tent that was a similar design held in the Air Conditioning pretty well.

We have heard good things here about the Coleman Instantent. In fact, a poster used a 6-person version recently and had good things to say about it. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2978970

The Instantent is solid material on the top portion. In fact, Coleman makes an optional rain fly for the 10-person and note it says, Get better airflow by cracking your windows, even in the rain http://www.coleman.com/product/instant-tent-rainfly-accessory-for-10-person-tent/2000010328?contextCategory=11020 It looks like it might have an overlapping vent at the top to allow some air to move.

That is an issue with single wall tents is that if it is humid and you are zipped up tight, moisture can form on the inside on the ceiling and upper walls. When it rains and you have to zip up all the windows and doors to keep the rain out, this is an example of when the moisture condenses.

I would suggest keeping the window/door zippers slightly open at the top to allow air to circulate to prevent condensation. Even with a heater (or electric blanket) you won't lose ALL your heat with it cracked.

Thanks so much. I guess the 10 person instatent it is. Will definitely remember to crack the windows. Thanks for the info.
