We're having a bit of a dilema. We'd like to go to DLP for DD's 2nd birthday. I asked on here before how it would work with flights as she would be an infant going out and not coming back, but no one answered, so I figured no one has done this before.

Sooooo.... what I'm thinking now is, going for a few days before her birthday. Spending her birthday there and maybe do the princess lunch and then fly home that night. Does anyone know if she will still be classed as an infant if we return on her birthday?

I've not done it myself.

I'd call the airline that you plan to use and ask them instead but I would say that even on her birthday she would be classed as a child as she has turned 2 by then. You'll probably find that bigger airlines would allow her to be an infant both ways but smaller/cheaper airlines probably wont

Thanks Cap'n. That's kind of what I thought. I'm not sure who we're going to fly with yet, so I might call round a few airlines first and see if any will allow that.

I might actually just book her a seat both ways as I don't think she'll want to sit on my knee by then anyway. I forgot what a struggle it was in January and she was only 16 months then :rotfl:

as far as i know its based on the return journey so if she turns two on or after her return flight, she will be charged child fare. And thats with many airlines ive flown with, i hope this helps but im sure there will be an exception with some airline :)

I also think that all kids ages are based on how old they are on their return journey.

I had this problem once and she will be classed as a child on her birthday.
I just booked a seat for my DD on the outward journey too to save problems.

Thanks :thumbsup2 . Think this is what I'm going to end up doing too, it'll just make things a lot easier.

I had a similar query last year when we were planning our June trip, and dd would have turned 2 the day we flew home and when I queried this with Easyjet they confirmed that we would have to pay for her return trip due to her qualifying for the childs fare.

Thanks a lot. If you don't mind me picking your brains, did you have to pay a childs fare both for the flight out and the return or just the return? Also if it was just the return how did you go about booking it? Did you book the outward flight seperate to the return flight? Or is there a way to book the outward as an infant and a return as a child? Maybe by phone or something?

I think I will just book her a childs flight but would be good to know anyway, just in case funds are too tight.

My friend did this when she went to Spain a few years ago, her son turned 2 out there and he went out as an infant and came back as a child so she didn't have to pay full child return fare, it was either half price or 3/4 price. I think your best bet is to phone the airline. :)
