I have never taken an infant on a beach vacation but now we have a foster baby who is three months old and she will be coming with us on our vacation next month. I have no idea what to buy to keep her shaded. A beach umbrella? a tent? a cabana? I am getting frustrated trying to find the right thing. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for me? Thanks!

I found a regular camping tent, big enough for an adult to fit in, worked best for us. We have one with nice big screen areas for air flow. The problem with smaller ones is a) they get hot quicker and b) it's hard for an adult to get in there with a chair to nurse or feed the little one. Plus, imo, it's alot of money to spend on something that you won't use after a year or so. The tent we have is plenty big for 2 adults to sleep in yet collapses into a very small bag for carrying and isn't hard to put up. Ours was around $30 iirc.

I just took my daughter to the beach at 2 months... We kept her in her vented stroller with the 'umbrella' part of the stroller up. Then, we also rented one of the umbrellas (with 2 chairs) for the day.. She stayed under it for HOURS...and she never got any sun on her. The rest of us, OTH, were fried!!

We just spent two months in Maine and after enduring many, many rainy days, we finally enjoyed some beautiful beach days. Our ten month old grandson LOVED the sand and the sea.:cool1:

We set up a beach cabana each day and put his pack 'n play in it. We also managed to fit two beach chairs (one on each side of the pack 'n play) just inside the cabana, enough for some partial shade for others. The idea was for Carter to nap in it, but he had other ideas.:rotfl: A three month old, however, would probably nap just fine in it. It was perfect for changing his diaper and sitting him in it for a snack, but he preferred napping in his stroller.

Here are a few pics so you can see what it looked like. It's kind of in the background because I was more interested in taking shots of Carter and not the cabana, of course!:rotfl:

Here he is, sleeping in his stroller. I put a beach towel over the top of the stroller's hood to give him more shade. He was quite content!

A hat is also an absolute must! I love this one because the flaps protected Carter's ears and the back of his neck as well as his head. He had a similar one when he was around two months old, so I know they make them for very young babies as well as older ones.:)

Enjoy your beach vacation! If I'm remembering correctly, you're heading up to my hometown in Maine. Have a wonderful time!!:)

Oh, what sweet pictures of Carter, luvflorida! Looks like he enjoyed the beach. Yes, we are heading to Kennebunkport in a few weeks, and really looking forward to it. I had such a hard time finding a beach hat, but finally found one...so important to have.
Thanks for the input everyone, I just ordered a beach tent/cabana from amazon and I think I will bring the stroller as well. It is a lot of work to bring a baby to the beach! :)
