Hi everyone,

So we've booked our flights for the four of us. My DD2 will be 22 months when we go so I have just booked her as an infant fare. We've picked out our seats so that's all sorted.

My next stress however is what she's going to eat for the 9 or 10 hours! She hasn't eaten a jar of food for a few months now and generally just has what we're having. I've already requested a child's meal for DD1 but it won't let me request anything for DD2. Will they give her nothing at all on the flight? If I call in advance can I order something for her, even I have to pay for it? Or will they give her something? I can't bear the thought of her little face when we're all presented with food and she has nothing! Especially as she generally eats more than her older sister does! I can see me giving mine up.

This is the first time I've ever travelled long haul with children so any help would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

Hi there,

Our infant didn't get offered anything on our last trip when she too was booked under an infant fare, although to be honest I wasn't expecting it so took her food that I had purchased in departures and lots of snacks to keep her happy.
In fact the last two trips with BA, even though we have requested a childs meal for our elder two daughters and emailed in advance to check, on both occasions the cabin crew told us that they hadn't been pre booked, offered them an adult meal and just told is to complain when back. The uk!! Luckily the last time I had forseen this happening again so took them sandwiches! crisps etc purchased in departures.
I would go prepared and buy things in departures 'Just in case'. As we know, there's nothing worse than a hungry toddler, especially on a long haul flight!

You might want to get in touch with them and check.

When we took DD on an infant ticket on Virgin the only choice was a baby jar meal.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Think I will give them a call but will pack extra food anyway. At this rate there'll be nothing in my hand luggage for me!

I'm thinking I might buy a couple of the toddler meals (sort of a step up from the jars) for her and they might be able to heat those for her. I've checked security restrictions on gov website and I think they should be fine although it won't be the end of the world if they are taken off me.

It's wrong that they didn't have the child meals on board though. Just not good enough to say they weren't ordered! Do they do that with meals for allergies or religious reasons? Not much point in allowing people to order in advance either. :confused3

Drives me mad with the under 2s thing too to be honest. I understand that not all toddlers would a eat a full meal, but it's highly unlikely that children over 18 months would be eating just jar food. And not to provide anything (not even a sandwich) for them isn't very good in my opinion. Even if they gave the option of buying the meal, I'd have absolutely no problem doing that.

Oh well, rant over! Thanks for your help!! :flower3:

DD has always had her pre-booked childrens meals - but I have seen plenty of complaints that people haven't.

Regarding taking food on board I don't think they will be able to heat anything for you unless it can be done in hot water - health and safety ;)

Eat before the flight and take snacks is probably the best way forward :thumbsup2

We'll definitely eat before the flight but it's at 11.20am so boarding around 10.30ish I would have thought. It'll make it difficult to get anything really substantial into them before we get on.

Think I'll give the airline a call and just fill me carry on to the gunners with snacks!

Honestly these kids are an awful lot of trouble! ;)

Akways amazes me with kids meals they arent automatic and they dont give an under three a non adult meal automatically!

BA def don't do any form of meal option for an infancy. We took one of the baby tray meals and they were more than happy to heat that up for me. On our last trip when she had a seat they actually gave her child meal to a guy on the same row as us and he started eating what he was given and when I realised dds meal wasn't coming they were fairly unhelpful and not at all apologetic that they gave her meal to another passenger and after much annoyance from me as she was hungry and wouldn't eat any of my adult breakfast the steward found her a banana! Since then I would always carry enough food/snacks just in case!
