Are there any inexpensive HH hotels near HH DVC? We are staying there in July and our plans have changed slightly on an arrival date. I don't want to spend the 66 points for a Saturday night stay when we won't get there until late at night. I saw that there are a few hotel chains in Bluffton that are on the way from I95. We're looking for something inexpensive and clean that can sleep 4 plus one in a crib.

I think this is only a mile or 2 away-

Residence Inn Hilton Head Island
12 Park Lane
Hilton Head, South Carolina 29928
USA
Phone: 1-843-686-5700
Fax: 1-843-686-3952

AAA rate generally around $90

Hope that helps!

There is a Fairfield Inn, in the same shopping area at Shelter Cove.

We were very disappointed in the Red Roof Inn last summer. It's right next to Disney's resort. One night was enough. It was not very clean and we were greeted by bugs.

Hopefully your thread will provide some better options for this year.

We're flying in late from Seattle and plan to stay at the Fairfield Inn in Bluffton before we check into HHI the next day. The AAA rate we got was $89.00. I've read on these boards that this is a newer hotel and has a nice complimentary breakfast.

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Bluffton and were very pleased with it. (Wouldn't want to spend my whole vacation there, but it was great for a night, pre-DHHIR! :goodvibes )

Not any more. The Fairfield was converted to a Days Inn several months back. Still a good value, still a good location, but don't have the Marriott name (or quality, IMHO) or amenities any more.

I'd stay out away, maybe out on the interstate an hour or so away. Since you're getting in late anyway, that option will get you in earlier. You won't likely be able to get into your room till late afternoon at DVC anyway. Get up and get to the island mid morning. Go and "check in" so you are oriented and on the off chance your room is ready. Look around some and go to lunch somewhere. Make sure you get the DVC discount list when you go by the resort so you can use it for lunch. Of course you could also hit the pool and/or beach on that day as well prior to actually getting in your unit.

I seem to recall a Hampton Inn in Bluffton as well.

I'll be doing the same thing - staying at a motel on Saturday and then heading to HH on a Sunday. I'm flying into Charleston. I'm going to be staying at The Econo Lodge in Hardeeville.

We were able to squeeze out some more Marriott reward points for a one night stay at the Fairfield in Bluffton. We are going to be staying in VA beach prior to HH and we will be driving from there. I figured we would leave VA Beach around 3pm and arrive in Bluffton around mid-night. The continental breakfast will be a nice break from making breakfast for everyone.

I was on the DVC member website today and I am excited about all the things there are to do. I hope they are doing the dolphin excursion when we are there. I have been dying to go on that. We are going to have so much fun!

Does anyone know if the front desk at HH DVC has a refrigerator that we can store perishables in until we can check in? I also doubt there would be a room ready when we arrive so if we can get the food shopping done while we are waiting to check in that would leave more time for the pool or beach. I fully expect to spend the day at the pool or beach before check in. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

TW1, How long does it take you to drive from Philly? We're going this 7/4 and I thought we'd stop below Raleigh for Sat. night and finish down to HH on Sun.

Yes, they do. We did this last year. There is a full size refrigerator in a storage closet right around the corner from the check in area. It was empty when we brought our groceries there last summer but when we went to pick them up, it was filled past capacity. Not another item could have fit into that refrigerator - it was a good thing we were taking items out.

I would suggest if you are planning on doing this, do it early.

I used to live in Bluffton and you're more likely to get a better rate on a room no matter where you stay in Bluffton (may only be $10/night but hey, it's something!). Plus, dining is much less expensive than on the island so it'll be easier to have an affordable breakfast before heading off to the resort to start your vacation! One word of caution, traffic can be pretty intense on Saturdays so if you hate stop-n-go driving, head to the island early (before 10am) and just enjoy the beach/pool that much earlier! :sunny:

For a quick overnight, you might want to consider priceline. We've almost always been able to get a great rate at a 4 star or resort level hotel. Granted, that's a pretty wide range at Hilton Head.

I've found the hotel reviews and bidding information is excellent at www.biddingfortravel.com (no personal affliation :) ).

Good luck! The kids and I will be at HHI in July...ooooo 35 days!!! Oh, and by the way...I just called a month ago and was able to get the member discount rate for the weekend nights following our Sun-Fri stay. Might be worth a shot.

The Hampton Inn is pretty new, and it has a good comp. breakfast (some hot foods, too). It's part of Sun City, a retirement community where my in-laws live. They get a discount, so we got a room for $80. I don't know the regular rate.

Leaving early to beat the traffic is an excellent idea! It can take two hours to get to HH from Bluffton, when it is only miles away.
