My budget for this gift is $10. I'm thinking of getting him a pair of inexpensive binoculars. My nephew and tomboyish daughter loved the binoculars they received around that age, and still use them occasionally (travel, sporting events, watching nature) now that they are in their teens.

I'm not inclined to do the trendy-toy-of-the-month type of gift. His immediate family will shower him with that kind of stuff. I'm looking for something useful yet "fun-ish" as my daughter would say.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I'm not exactly within your budget, but a couple years ago my inlaws bought tripod flashlights for my kids and they were a huge hit.

Here's a link to one similar to what they have: http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-95-11...=1350616088&sr=8-3&keywords=tripod+flashlight
