my dishwasher just bit the bullet---
its not worth fixing--- over 14 years old!!!!!!!!!!

at the time we brought it it was the least expensive dishwasher for sale at pc richards---
now that I'll be looking for a replacement this month(guess I'll be doing dishes by hand for a while)--- just wanted suggestions as to where the best prices would be--- I was going to start at Lowes --- any other suggestions--

We bought ours at Sears, it is a Whirlpool Quiet Partner II. It was in the mid-range price but not over $500 and it cleans much much better than the bottom of the line GE that the builder put in this house originally. It is also so much quieter. If you can install it yourself, you'll save a good bit too.

Before you go for cheapest, pay attention to the noise rating. I let my husband buy ours while I was at work. He bought the cheapest thing they had and had it installed before I got home. Cleans fine, but sounds like a jet taking off in the kitchen!

My neighbor is an appliance repair man and says that the Whirlpools are the best. None of the appliances built today are made to last though, so don't expect to get 14 yrs out of your new one.

I'd nab one of those 10% off coupons from the moving packets at the post office, and then take it to Lowe's. If cost is a major factor, see if they have any of the scratch and dents or discontinued models available.

We bought a Maytag Quiet Series five years ago. It's loud and doesn't clean very well now.

Two different relatives just bought the same model...some GE one that is around $600-$700. When it's running it is as loud as mine in when it's just filling up. We will probably buy the same one soon.

Another good reason to buy at Lowes is that when they ring up the dishwasher, for some reason they do not charge sales tax on the item, just some sort of disposal fee if they install it.

I assume the disposal fee is for when they take your old one and "dispose" of it for you.

Check Best Buy also. We just had the same problem. Our dishwasher went out and I had the pleasure of handwashing dishes for a month! We priced dishwashers at Lowe's, home Depot, and best Buy. Best Buy had the best price. We ended up with a Whirlpool, and it is pretty quiet and washes the dishes great!!!!

Yup. The part I didn't understand was why they didn't charge sales tax. Saved a good chunk of change!:goodvibes

Sears has a big appliance sale this week - 15% off Kenmore, 10% off other brands.

We bought a dishwasher at a price that Lowes nor Home Depot could beat. Went with a Whirlpool.

Just want to add be careful with the Kenmore. It might be us, might be kenmore but we've had nothing but problems with the one we have. We bought this house almost 5 years ago, people we bought it from went through and replaced all the appliances (had a jennair cooktop :confused3 ) with kenmore. Our dishwasher wasn't cheap from what we found out later but nothing but problems, doesn't clean well, loud, had a repair man out twice within the first 6 months of owning home. It seems like the parts (moving parts) are all made out of plastic. The people we bought the home from lived here for less than 2 years, the appliances were pretty new. Now we are having issues with the microwave/hood, the glass front just randomly broke. Weren't near it, wasn't using it, just heard crackling and looked to see what was making that noise and watched a spiderweb crack on the glass slowly spread across the whole front. Only a $30 part but we are still cleaning the glass up (still finding it no matter how many times I sweep, vacuum, mop, down on hands and knees look, etc. Hubby just pulled a piece out of my foot last night for me).

My neighbor has a bosch, when she runs it, I don't even know it's running it's so quiet. They are expensive and if something goes wrong, it's hard to find someone to fix it.

We have also had luck with ABC warehouse, they will negotiate price with you. We have also bought the scratch & dent's from BB. Our fridge is surrounded by cabinets, who is going to see a small dent (size of a quarter) on the side when it's covered by wood? I think that saved us around $400.

thanks for all the replies---
I'm going to take my time looking---- I went to lowes last night to buy purchase pool chemicals and went over to look at the dishwashers---

I am going to attempt to wash dishes by hand for a while-- cause I really want to wait a month or 2 to make the purchase-- but we will see--

my husband will install it so looks like we will save $200 that way

Whirlpool makes Kenmore, Kitchen aide and Maytag, same Wirlpool quality but all have different features. I just wish they would get rid of the auto garbage disposal in them. I mentioned it to several of the engineers. It makes your drain clog easier.
