Inexpensive dinner at Ikea on Tuesdays

Somehow, the idea of going to Ikea for dinner is like going to the supermarket to buy a sofa. Makes no sense.

I discovered Ikea's restaurant quite accidentally about 2 years ago. It sounds crazy but an Ikea visit was planned in our itinerary for our Orlando trip for the benefit of the designers and budding designers in our family. We were starving, decided to eat at Ikea and were very pleasantly surprised. Good food at very good prices. No one in our party of 10 complained which is saying quite a lot for my family.

I wouldn't make a trip to Ikea to eat, but if I'm shopping there, I'd definitely eat there again.

Makes perfect sense to me!

We live about 10 minutes from IKEA. DD and I get the meatballs, so that about $5. The often have free kids meals for my two boys add another $0. So, dinner for four for about $5.

And my kids LOVE Ikea. They love to play their way through the store. They sit on all the chairs. Play office executive in the office furniture dept. Cook in the kitchens. That is FREE imaginative play.

That's all well and good, if you're there to buy furniture. But its a furniture store, not a playground...and in my eyes bringing your kids there for dinner and to "play" is not something I'd want to see when trying to shop for furniture.

I once went to their restaurant about an hour before they closed and they had a 10 meatball with a side special for $1,it wasn't their usual 15 meatball entree but for $1.When IKEA first opened near us I remember eating the meatballs several times, but grew tired of them pretty quick after that.My mom loves the meatballs though and would probably eat them 3 times a week.If I go to IKEA with her and she eats the meatballs I pass and go to Chipotle or a salad place that's within walking distance of the IKEA.

Have you been to an Ikea???

Heck, adults are there playing...new significant others playing house...marrieds playing "when we have a house", etc etc.

Not to mention, there's a lovely "smaland" area for play (kids of a certain age, fully potty trained, for one hour per day when not sick), which is fun, too! (as long as your kid meets those specifications)

Thought of another thing. Our local Kroger-owned store, Fred Meyer, is a grocery store with furniture right across from the kitchen utensils, just near the milk section. So, see, it's totally logical! I could indeed buy a couch in a grocery store.
