Inexpensive Airline Tickets – Spring Break

Inexpensive Airline Tickets – Spring Break

Hello, I am looking for inexpensive airline tickets. The problem is this is around spring break so I am having trouble. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Here are the details:

People flying: Me (mom) and DD (11)

Need round trip tickets from Georgia/Florida – Ohio

We have to arrive in Ohio on March 28 and depart on the 31 (or it would increase hotel costs).

I am flexible on the Georgia/Florida airport if it is a significant price difference. My daughter lives in Tampa, so preference of airports are:

Tampa
St. Petersburg
Orlando
(other nearby airports within a 2-4 hour drive)

I work in Valdosta, Georgia and have an apartment there so I would also consider these airports but DD would miss additional school days:

Valdosta
Jacksonville
Atlanta (only if really significant difference)

I have never been to Columbus, Ohio so I am not sure if there are more than one airport in that area. My daughter has flown before so if we cannot sit together that should not be an issue as long as we are on the same flight.

We do not have airline points and the only discount we may be eligible for is a military discount (I am active duty).
I think you're going to have problems...
1) Finding "inexpensive" airfare is tough any time of year, spring break is going to be even worse.
2) You won't be on the same flight unless you connect at the same airport (Atlanta?). You would have at least one flight you are by yourselves.

FYI, you can also fly into Cincinnati (~2 hours from Columbus) or Dayton (~1 1/2 hours from Columbus).

I would go to travelocity and put in your requirements. It will also check surrounding airports. I'm seeing $303 from Voldosta to Dayton and $309 from Jacksonville to Dayton. Travelocity won't show you SW. If you find a price you like on travelocity, go to the airline site and book there.

You've got a lot of possible options and it will take time to sort through and see what the best deal is. You also don't mention how "inexpensive" you want or what you're seeing for prices currently.

For the major airlines try hipmonk.com for a listing of flights between 2 airports. You can keep trying various combinations. It won't list Southwest or Jet Blue. You will have to go those web sites directly.

The only way to find airfares is spend the time and do the research yourself.

What is your view of "inexpensive" Some folks think that means $100 roundtrip and others $500 round trip.
YOur best bets on your airports are the bigger ones. (You aren't getting cheap out of Valdosta, been there paid that price!) Tampa and/or Orlando probably are your best bets The best I see is around $320 and on SW some of the "wanna get away" fares are already gone so....

Really? You won't research it for me? I fully expected you to do the research and book it using your credit card.

No one on a transportation board would ever possibly have any additional tips or information to provide so you must be here to do everything for me.

I hope you think you are being witty, but you are coming across as rude.

Bye!

Southwest might be an option. If you're a good candidate for rewards cards, you could see what their promotion is right now. A few months ago (not sure if it's still going on) they were offering 50,000 points for signing up...after you spent so much. That's usually enough for at least 2 round trip tickets. There is a $99 per year fee. Anyways, I'd look at it closely to be sure it's a good option for you.

To clarify, we are not departing from different airport, we will board and depart from the same airport. For example, I will drive to Tampa and we will both board there, or her dad will drive her to Georgia and will board there. The response appeared to indicate we were trying to join each other when we won't be separated.
That's because it wasn't clear (to me at least) that you would both leave from the same airport.

The current prices I am seeing are around $380 round trip (per person) a couple days ago. I just looked again and it is $326 today. I would need to include two checked bags and transportation from the airport to the hotel in my decision.
I posted what I saw and that was just minutes before I posted. I also told you how I found that airfare.

You've had a couple people give you suggestions already. I hope you take the advice.

Good luck.

Just because of the demand cost are up, and going up. I always fly for $77 each leg, for March it was $120, now it is $130....
Everyone wants to travel during this time.

Inexpensive is a relative term. It used to be that I considered $77 one way to be really inexpensive. Now? It's gone up to $120!!! Anything under that and it's cheap!
You are looking to fly at a very popular time..it will be fairly expensive. I would check out all the airports between you and your dd. Then choose the one that offers the lowest fare. But in reality? It all depends on what you consider to be inexpensive. Some, at this time of year, would think that $300 pp r/t is inexpensive!! Others may feel that's too expensive.
