I am on my first day of Atkins and am wondering if I can eat carrots? They aren't on the list so I'm assuming no...but it can't hurt to ask.

No...you can't eat carrots on induction. Try and stick to high protein low carb foods like meat and such. You can have your 3 cups of salad...but try to limit that..(it will make it easier IMHO).

Carrots are something you can add back in down the road.

Good Luck and Hang in there...Keep posting if you have anymore questions.

The first few days are the toughest, Mary. Carrots are not allowed on induction. They contain a very large amount of natural sugars and as a result one 7 1/2" long carrot contains 5.1 grams of carbohydrates.

For the first two weeks just eat the vegetables on the allowed list. After day four or five you will be in ketosis and won't be hungry anymore. Until that happens, eat if you are hungry. The first two weeks I ate a lot.

Be sure and measure your salad greens. Be careful of your portion size on any food that contains carbohydrates.

A little reminder about your protein. Never eat protein without fat. I know it sounds weird but if you don't eat enough fat, not only will you lose less weight but you will cause your blood sugar to go up which can cause cravings for off plan foods. This happens because your body will convert excess protein to glucose if you don't eat fat at the same time. I don't pretend to understand this but it is true :)

Hang in there. Stay close to WISH for the next few days. You are likely to be needing a bit of support during induction, particularly if you experience withdrawal symptoms.

Remember that we are always here for you, whether you need information, advice or just support. That's what WISH is all about.
