Just booked with Virgin to go in May and noticed on their website they have athread for an Indian restaurant called Passage to India. We're gonna be away for a fortnight and will need a curry whilst we're out there, and whilst I doubt they will be as good as ours in the UK, I was wondering if anyone had visited this place or could recommend a decent curry whilst we're out there.

Thanks

I've never eaten there, but have read mixed reviews about it.

As you say - I don't think any Indian in Orlando will come close to the ones in the UK :(

I think you'll be pleasantly suprised by the curry at The passage to India. It was very similar to a U.K curry and very nice.My young kids eat curry as well but they found there's a bit too hot(Chicken Vindaloo!).
We really enjoyed our meal there-was one of the more expensive restaurants but when you need your curry fix money's surely no object.

We went to one on I drive back in 94 opposite Wild Jacks,Dont know if its still there though
I like my curry but Man was it hot,I know how Jonny Cash felt the morning after!

I haven't eaten there ( just picked up a take out menu for future use) but there is an Indian in the Crossroads area Dakshin the name of it, next to TGI Fridays. If looks and smell are anything to go by it seemed pretty good

I have eaten there and we had a terrible meal.. We were both sick for the last 3 days of our holiday.

Please don't go there. I asked the locals and they agree not good at all. Not a very clean place either. The curry is nothing like you expect. Most things came pureed, so you couldn't tell how old it was!!! All the meat had the bones - ankle of lamb anyone?

There is one that is being sampled by a person on another board. I'll find out how it went.

Hmmm.....from what everyone has said I will def give this place a miss. Im very fussy about my Indian food, and will nearly always only eat North Indian food and never eat bangldeshi made Indian food.

Someone from another site has recommedned a place called Sangam for which you need a car which we wont have so Ill just have to see how it goes.

I'm also fussy about my curry and so I grit my teeth and abstain while in Orlando :(

But, boy that first curry when you get home tastes good :)

I see ur in leicestershire Goofy Ive had a couple of good meals on the belgrave rod in leicester. Theres one place which was like a pub/restaurant bit cannot remember the name.

If you check www.zabihah.com you will find a list of halal restaurants in Orlando. Most of these are what we would call "Indian". TBH the only one we tried was Ahmeds (I put a review on zabihah.com) which was pretty good, but not really up to the standards of the Indian restaurants you get in the UK.

If this is any help, it took this from the Orlando Sentinel website :

Foodie Awards 2004
BEST INDIAN

Readers' Choice:
KOHINOOR
249 W. State Road 436, Altamonte Springs
407-788-6004

Critic's Choice:
MEMORIES OF INDIA
7625 Turkey Lake Road, Orlando
407-370-3277

"Memories of India was your second choice and only one vote kept it from having a mandate. Coincidentally, Kohinoor was my second choice."
--Scott Joseph (Orlando Sentinel restaurant critic)
Never eaten at either of these myself, but if it's what the locals like then I don't think you can go much wrong. If you want, I'll see if I can track down the full reviews for you...

Normally I'd agree with your view, but as far as "locals" being Americans and the food being Indian/curries I don't think I'd put too much store in their views. I think the British taste in curries is quite different.

Given the number of Indian restaurants along Belgrave Road it could be one of about 50 :)
