Independance Air?

New airline offering good rates:
Independance Air.
Just booked them for BUF-MCO return over Christmas but am VERY nervous since I have heard nothing about them.

Does anyone know of them or anything about this airline?

Capt Blue Sky seems to think that they may not be in operation in the spring. There were some reports in the Wash Post that they may have some financial difficulty in that time frame.

I personally can't vouch for any of this, but I did book them over Veterans day at a great rate. I just hope that they don't cancel on me.

Hi Riu girl!

Here's what I know about Independence Air...

They used to operate as Atlantic Coast Airways which was essentially a subsidiary of United Airlines running mostly their east coast commuter routes. They recently ended their relationship with United (hence the name Independence) and have added more routes.

There's been a lot of speculation about the ability of this airline to stay afloat with prices so low...but if you read some of the other threads about it on this board, posters mention full flights on some routes...

I guess it remains to be seen where they'll be next year. I"m all set to fly them in less than 2 weeks (they're just starting their Dulles-MCO direct flights next week) and I'd be happy to provide my observations when I return (do I have to come home?).

Hi,

We just returned. Flew Independence Air round trip TYS-MCO (Thursday a.m. & Sunday p.m.) with both flights full. Great airline. On both non-stop flights we were served our choice of snack (individual packages of chips, cookies, pretzels, breakfast bars, etc), choice of beverage, hot "towel" service and then mints just before landing. I was surprised about the choices, the towels and the mints because I thought this was a no frills airline. Both flights left and arrived on time with the first leg arriving about 10 minutes early.

The people seated behind me asked the FA about the recent reports. She said the only rumors she heard were about credit and paying for their recent purchase of new airbus planes. She was a new hire and had only been flying about a week. (Just reporting her response)

As a resident of a non-hub city, I am thrilled to have this low cost competition in our area. Before I-air, low fares were rare in our area....nonstop flights were nonexistent. I guess I'll support them with my business as long as I feel confident when I book the flight.
