The Incredibles is now tracking almost exactly the same numbers that Monsters, Inc. did in its fourth and fifth weeks at the box office. Given its bigger opening, the Incredibles is about 10% ahead of Monsters at this point. If that holds up (might be a small holiday boost, but it will be the film's eighth weekend in release, so there may not be much there) it should end up around $280m to $285m.

That would give it a run multiple of exactly 4x opening, the lowest of the Pixar features, which surprises me a bit. I thought it would have stronger legs. Perhaps not Toy Story or Nemo legs, but somewhere in the 4.5x range (which would have made it a $315m film.)

Toy Story had heart
Nemo had heart
Monsters had a big heart.

I like Incrdibles alot but it was action not heart and I don't want to see it again because after the smoke clears theres nothing to take away from it.

Nemo was parent and child as well as Monsters which appealed to me as a father figure type and a child. Toy Story to me was all about being a friend.

With Incredibles I know it's supposed to be all about family bonds but I don't think it came across strong enough.

Interesting. The "family" emotion came through much stronger for me with Incredibles (and Monsters) than it did with Nemo. Probably because I never connected with Marlin and rather disliked him through the whole film. And, I didn't really buy into him changing at the end. Ranking the Pixar films, just based on my personal enjoyment:

Monsters, Inc.
The Incredibles
Toy Story 2
Toy Story
Finding Nemo
A Bug's Life

I don't know Breralex -

Shrek 2 doesn't have any heart.

I was very impressed by the Incredibles numbers given this years' competition. I believe the stats have to do with the timing. Too many animated flicks in a short span.

I'm with Greg, I think the Incredibles story had a lot of heart. It wasn't complicated or surprising but I don't think that is what an animated feature should necessarily aspire to.

As for my Pixar list:
1. Incredibles
2. Monsters
3. TS 2
4. A Bugs Life
5. TS
6. Finding Nemo

Once again the big cash generator passed my taste by...I wonder why I loved POC so much?

My teenagers will like the Incredibles more than Nemo or Monsters Inc. It's not that I don't agree with some of you, but I think the Incredibles is just for a different aged market than some of the Pixar movies, especially the Toy Story ones. It's more adult humor and references, rather than cutesy toys or bugs or whatever.
It will probably get some new life over Christmas break if Disney can keep it in the theatres.
I don't know about you but Thanksgiving was a very hectic time and I'm thinking alot of folks just didn't get to the movies yet.
Positive word of mouth will continue to market this picture in a strong way.IMO.

damn straight Shrek 2 had no heart, or story or cohesiveness. But it had good gags and a lovable character people fell in love with in the first film.

Hell I don't even really like the first one, too much, but everytime its on I find myself watching.

I don't know any adults who are truly in love with Shrek. They went for the comedy. Myers is a funny guy. Or, perhaps they needed something light to follow the weight of the Passion. This was a non-risk endeavor for us patrons, as was Spiderman 2. Just a few more examples of a picture really paying off even when it only happens to be done "good enough".

Which was really my point regarding heart. It may play a role to some, but does it have any real impact in the numbers? Well, given this example the answer would be - no.

Like you, I don't care for either Shrek (and I dislike the "4-D" show at Universal) - yet I paid to see both at the box office and have yet to ante up any more for animation this year despite the reviews and success of The Incredibles. (and I saw Nemo twice)

Go figure.

One thing I do know, is my 6 yr old niece has no desire to see The Incredibles and her family passed on it. So maybe, young girls who walked away from Nemo not "getting it" are looking for a princess they can relate to vs. a superhero at the box office. - Katz did provide the fairytale.

I know several adults who love Shrek. We must run in different circles. ;)

I can also see heart in both Shrek movies but then I'm real easygoing about animated films.

Planogirl -

You are admirably too kind to have found the heart in Shrek. But love is a pretty strong word.

Maybe we're not that far apart. I know alot of people who thought Shrek was "great" - for whatever reason (unfathomable to me of course) and I could certainly see how someone may have casually tossed out the "L" word - but not for lack of a better verb. :cool2:

crusader, to each their own. I never could fathom the admiration for Lilo & Stitch so I can relate to your thoughts, possible even knowing which word you are thinking of. :D

The Shrek movies are fun and harmless and a great many people seem to "love" them. They could never make such huge sums of money given only a passing interest. However, I think that Shark Tales was lacking so the jury is still out as to whether Katz can make anything good besides the Shrek films.

Of course, that same jury is also currently out on Disney animated films. :guilty:
