Incredible ebay auction

I couldn't imagine someone actually buying that hair.
How in the world could they prove the hair was actually Abe Lincoln's?
Is the buyer going to shell out mega bucks to try to find out the hair is his through DNA? Sheesh.

The hair is probably from the seller's brother Larry or something.

Anyone can make certificates of authenticity. Look how many people are selling "autographed" photos with coa on ebay, yet the auction states it's actually a copy of the original autographed photo.

hair... sheesh. Not me! I'm saving up for a fingernail clipping! ;)

In this day and age, I would be wary of any "documentation" used to authenticate something like this. While most might find this strange, I can think of who might want this... anyone who is really into Lincoln memorabilia. For every historical figure, there is someone out there who will buy anything that came into contact with that person.

Also, in the 18th and 19th centuries, when a famous person died, locks of their hair were usually snipped and given to people close to them (not quite the same in this case, but similar enough to a collector). These were usually sold or passed on to others until some eventually make their way into the hands of collectors, usually with a chain of documents supposedly proving authenticity. I once saw a lock of Napoleon's hair that was going to be auctioned off (couldn't stay for the auction, but would have loved to). The woman showing it to me said bidding would start at $100,000.

a few months back a lock of *suppsoed* Elvis' hair sold for around $5,000.00! I was SOOOOOOOO tempted to cut a lock of my bangs and sell them as elvis' hair.... or maybe as a lock of the infamous bigfoot hair.... hehehehe

I noticed something fishy.... all those hair pieces have the SAME gold container... Sounds a bit spoofed to me

they probably buy them in bulk..

If that's the case...

here's my own little parody:

I recently bought this treasured strand of hair and found out it belonged to none other than MICKEY MOUSE! I know what you're thinking... HOW DID YOU GET IT? Well, by accident really! I bought a hat at Disney World that later had a weird small strand of hair in it. I had it analyzed and it belonged to none other then the mouse himself! I have over 5 MILLION pages of documents PROVING this is the real hair from Mickey! It was originally gathered during his first movie "steamboat willie". It has passed down through the ages in this hat until I recently found it! It can be yours TO-DAY! for the low RIDICULOUS price of only $3,000,000!!! I Accept Pay-pal & well hidden cash!

I think it works best with dead people, with little chance of DNA testing...

Huh????? A) Where'd they get it and B) who would want it, and C) why would they think that a piece of "historical" hair (that couldn't be verified, naturally) would be the "perfect gift for anyone"????

Even if you wanted to test it, don't you have to have the hair root to get anything testable for DNA?

Why would you want some dead person's hair anyhow? :magnify:
