Increase in rude and obnoxious people?

I know that this may not be a popular post and I even except some ridicule, but I’ve been itching to ask it.

I’ve had an increased number of friends and acquaintances tell me that they have noticed an increase in rude and obnoxious people visiting Disney World in the last few month. They told me it was like there was a Trailer Park Convention in town and half of them skipped it to go to Disney.

We love Disney and try to make it a yearly visit with the family. We have always had a great time even when it becomes busy. I have 4 little ones and we used to get season passes to Six Flags near our home, but stopped because of the rudeness, line cutting, and excessive use of the F-bomb in casual conversations by others. (Mostly unsupervised teens)
We cut back on everything to save so we can afford to take the trip to Disney, but I would be very disappointed if what I am being told is true.

By no means to I come from money or am stuck on myself. My wife and I donate a lot of our time to the Boy Scouts, Youth Sports, and Church. Like most people, when we do spend our hard earned money after our government and state rapes us with taxes, we like to enjoy ourselves in a clean, safe environment with our loved ones.

I was there in mid-March for a full week (100% Disney) and really had no experience at all with rude or boorish behavior.

I've been there in the midst of big crowds and free dining and had nothing but the greatest time. I let obnoxious people make themselves more miserable!

I was there April 1-11 and I'd have to agree that people were more rude, pushy and abnoxious than usual. I think it was the worst I saw it was at Hollywood Studios at 7am rope drop the Friday before Easter. People were pushing and shoving my kids to get closer to the rope. My poor kids were being pushed out of the way. I had to push back on the people pushing just to get my kids next to me again. Then when the rope dropped I swear people were going to get trampled to get to Toy Story Mania. It was crazy!! But, what do you do? You can't let the negativity of other's affect your trip so we kept on smiling

Same here. No matter where you go there are always going to be people who do not share the same manners that you have.
The couple of times that our family has come across poor manners we have removed ourselves from the situation.
I would not let it interfer with your planned trip. Life is to short and 98% of the time Disney is a wonderful family atmosphere.

Don't get the trailer park reference, but my experience has been if you want to see them and hear them, you do. If not---enjoy life because you are at Disney.

I think behavior is an issue just about anywhere now days. Current society is a product of instant gratification. Along the way something was lost. I agree with Xysrus, people can chose to be polite or obnoxious. I'd like to think that karma will have a hand in it at some point. I do find that in most cases, you can turn a situation with a kind word or smile. If not, then I feel sad, but don't let it affect me or my family. I looked at ill behavior as a tool to teach my kids when they were younger.

I always wonder how often people go that they can make judgement calls about increases in rudeness from one trip to the next. Sample size just doesn't seem sufficient to be able to make those calls.

What I have noticed is that on some trips, you have an incident or two that stand out. Dad losing it at lunchtime. A bunch of teens sneaking cigarettes where they shouldn't be smoking (at an age where they shouldn't be smoking). Someone making racists comments in line ahead of you. Someone bragging about pool hopping/mug refilling/sneaking their four year old in as two. Sometimes you don't run into any of those people, sometimes its one, sometimes its more than one. But I think that those people are always around, its just your lucky day when you spend twenty minutes in line right behind one of them - and if you are so lucky as to get exposed to three or four of them, it sticks in your mind that "people" were ruder. Maybe - maybe you just got exceptionally lucky in which people you were exposed to.

Bad behavior and rudeness is everywhere nowadays and knows NO socioeconomic borders( the trailer comment). I have seen rude people of all kids everywhere not just disney.I don't let it effect me though.You can not control other people but you can control yourself and your actions

We go twice a year, and I'm happy to report that I've never experienced rude behavior at Disney!

We had it once at the airport (which we just laughed off), but never at Disney! It's the Happiest Place on Earth, and even those who are grumpy 358 days a year, are happy and pleasant when they are at Disney!

Oh yeah, except for the week of May 2nd! All the jerks will be there, so don't go that week!!!

OP please, using language like "after our government and state rape us with taxes"?? I certainly hope you never have to collect unemployment, drive on expressways, benefit from medical research, get your garbage collected or send your kids to school. After all if the government didn't "rape us" (talk about offensive language) you wouldn't be enjoying any of these benefits. Oh and remember those soldiers in Iraq and around the world...I guess we don't need to have a paid military either. Offensive people can be found everywhere!

I also cringe when my children are exposed to crass behavior, most especially strong profanity. I try to remember to take any such instance as an opportunity to teach them about PROPER behavior. Just use the bad behavior as a non-example!

We just got back from a trip and had a great time. We found people to be really friendly and pleasant even though MK was really crowded. I already can't wait to go back.

Ahem, as someone who lives in a Trailer Park...I found that offensive. Not everyone that lives in a trailer park deserves the negative connotation that it has in the American Lexicon nowadays. Some of us are good hard working people who just really can't afford a mortgage.

Where I am, it doesn't matter if the person lives in a million dollar home or the trailer park. People are rude and ignorant everywhere I turn. But most are somewhat polite and still use the words please, thank you, excuse me...

I really hope my daughter doesn't get trampled, I just don't have the patience for that to happen.

as a CM, I noticed that when the crowd levels get higher, people get more rude, obnoxious, and self centered. You start seeing more people jump gets, cut under ropes, and blame you for the sign that CLEARLY states MULTIPLE TIMES which line you need to be in for the Wilderness Lodge, and which line is the campground.

I know as a guest I have experience rude behavior as well, but I either don't let it get to me or I just prevent the behavior. For instance, if someone tries to cut me in line, they will get an ear full.

As for the trailer trash comment, I understand what you're saying, but I will also point out that some of the rudest people I have encountered are the ones who stay the Grand Floridian. All levels of social status have their rude people.

Pot meet kettle, sorry but I find it ironic that someone who comes to complain about rude behavior can make a comment like the one above. Maybe the above comment is part of the reason for an increase in rude behavior.

Me thinks this was a post just to rile the DISers. The trailor park reference and the government "raping" us and even the church comment were, IMHO, designed to enrage. Don't let this poster have the satisfaction.

I notice rude people everywhere not just at Disney! We were at a Ritas Water Ice a few weeks ago with my two little ones and a group of teens were using offensive. Everywhere there are people there will be those that just have no regard for others. Just ignore it and have fun while on vacation. That's what I try to do so that my time is not waisted worrying about others rude behaviors.
