Incident at Staples

Count me in as another one who would have tapped the guy and told him they were calling for the next customer to come over.

But he was a total jerk afterwards, what a tool.

When I worked at a grocery store in high school and college and had to open, most of the time I went and took the front of the next person's cart and pulled it into my lane and then went to check them out.
If not I'd say I'll help the next person over here and if the person who came was NOT the next person in line, I'd say oh I'm sorry, I have to help the person who was next, would you let her ahead of you? Thanks! :)

Our Kohl's has the one feeder line and I like that because I always end up in the one line that is the slowest and it drives me nuts. LOL
By me, the Disney Store, Children's Place, Sears, JC Penney all have one line, too.

I've thought about this more and I might have said something to the guy in front of me....but I would NEVER touch a stranger because you never know what kind of reaction you're going to get from that. For instance, I am very jumpy (have actually been diagnosed with PTSD because of abuse that I suffered both as a child and as an adult) and I hate it when someone taps me on the shoulder all of a sudden. Am I going to turn around and yell at you? No. But I might practically jump out of my skin or give a little shriek.

This is my vote as well. I know too many people who freak out if a stranger touches them for me to be comfortable tapping someone on the shoulder. I would have said something to the guy, though. There's no excuse for him to have been as rude as he was, but it is one of my pet peeves when someone behind me goes to the new line before I can get over there, so I can sort of sympathize with that part. I know the OP waited to see if he would move, but he sounds like he was pretty oblivious to all that.

I was very afraid to open up this thread since I am a Customer Satisfaction Analyst for Staples, all I could think was, "what the heck did one of the associates do now".

Part of my department also handles Retail Customer issues and I'd be willing to bet money that this guy is going to call tomorrow and complain about some rude lady at the store and he now wants coupon to make up for what he had to deal with.

I thought the same thing as my husband is a GM for Staples!! It stinks that the OP had to deal with that!!

I think ALL retail establishments should have a queue policy. IMO, it's up to the clerk/cashier/sales associate to be aware enough to know who's next in line.

Leaving it up to the people in line will just ask for differences as some people can't wait and others are oblivious, as you discovered.
