Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I am not running (or walking) this weekend but I have been following along since I have friends who will be participating. I just wanted to take a second to congratulate ALL of you who have trained so hard for this Half Marathon. Can't wait to see you cross that finish line... kind of. ;)

You should all be proud of yourselves. I know I am proud of each and every one of you!!

Wow! How sweet of you! :) Thank you, it's so easy to get caught up in the training and not stop to think about what it is we're about to accomplish!

Whoo hoo y'all!

Guess who is going on a 3 mile run around EPCOT Friday morning with Jeff Galloway and 19 other runners?

Congratulations! That will be memorable, for sure! :goodvibes

I have an OT question... DH would like a Garmin run watch for his bday(a week after I return from wdw) and thought the $400 one is what he wants! I dont have a $400 budget but could probably swing $150.

Any recommendations on a model - I dint know much about them.

Thanks!

I also have the Forerunner 305 and love it. I was going to get the 205 because I don't care about the heart rate monitor but it was only $16 or so more on Amazon so I figured I'd get it in case I ever want to use it.

Right now the 205 is $125.98 on Amazon and the 305 is $145.99.

I kept putting off getting one for years since I thought I didn't need it but it does make your training much better.

Frank? Coach?:goodvibes:goodvibes

Not I. I will be landing on Friday morning and spending the rest of the day at the expo and then just killing time until the 4:00 meet. I'll probably head over to DTD and get all my friends that have had kids this year a baby's first Christmas ornament and then do some resort hopping.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 runs around $145-170; the Gormin Forerunner 205 runs around $125-130. Both are available from known on-line retailers including amazon and walmart and best buy.

The difference between the two is that the 305 has a heart rate monitor. By far these are the better deals for Garmin GPS units. They will do everything the others will, except go under water. In many ways these are better than the newer, more expensive Garmins as the numbers are larger.

I agree with Coach. I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 and I love it! I bought it for about $150 off of amazon earlier this year (although they had a "Deal of the Day" thing on Amazon shortly thereafter and it was something like $125). I don't use the heart rate monitor but it's nice to have in case I want to. I haven't read the manual or use (or discovered) all of the functions yet but I love knowing the exact distance and pace I'm going. It's one of the best running tools I've bought.

Thanks so much for the input! It really helped me make the decision. I knew this was the right group to ask!
I ended up getting the 305 on amazon but saw on slickdeals.com that the 405 was on sale for $186. However after reading a few reviews and looking at your comments I think DH will like the 305 better.

That is AWESOME!   I can't wait to hear all about it!

Tonight I did my last run before I fly out Friday. I will try to get a little time in Friday night to stay loose.
It has been such a long time training, I just started running not quiet 10 months ago. Running the first leg of this race (although I had no idea what the exact distance would be at that time - I figured half of a half) seemed like such a huge obstacle. Despite the fact that this will be my longest race to date, now doing 5 miles feels like a regular run. I'm really excited to run my first Disney race and am really looking forward to meeting everyone there!

I can't believe it's almost here!

I totally agree with you! I'm running the first half as well! It's funny how the mind "resets" itself. I never would have thought I would think that 5 miles was a "normal" thing for my body to do:rotfl:

Can't wait! Let the Packing begin!!:banana:

Hello,

I am looking for one or two bibs for the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon this Saturday.

Thanks,
Wendy

Here in Charlotte, we're experiencing torrential downpours! Apparently it's the effect of "Tropical Depression 16", which is also just east of Orlando right now. But the good news-- it should clear out by sometime tomorrow and there isn't anything else developing at this point! :yay:

Wow-- after all this time of training and dreaming, the weekend is upon us! This time tomorrow I will be at the airport to leave for the Mouse House for the Halloween 5K on Saturday morning! Although I think I was going out waaayy tooo fast during training and that's why it has sucked big time the last couple of weeks, I haven't been able to put my theory to the test on the track. My left knee has been hurting since my Monday night training, bottom of the knee to the inside. Doesn't hurt when I walk-- only when I lift it. So I've been doing the smart thing and resting it. It's about 85% today, so hopefully by Saturday I'll be at 100%. I'll probably have to do some light running on Friday just to remind my body what it feels like!

But even though this week's training has been all but nonexistent, I am still so looking forward to my very first race experience. I never, ever, in a billion years thought I'd ever be a "runner", much less try something this. I'm focusing on a positive and empowering experience! Regardless of when (or maybe if) I cross the finish line! Thanks to everyone who has been so encouraging since I've joined the WISH boards! I couldn't have gotten this far without you! :grouphug:

I just wanted to thank DisneyBride'03 for starting this thread and to everyone who has contributed, especially cewait and FireDancer. I haven't posted but have read all along and it's been a huge help. I wish you all the best on Saturday night!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

I have a question if anyone knows... What's the deal with KT Tape being at the Expo and providing taping for people? I already use KT Tape on my Achilles, but I would love to get one of my knee's taped by them. I tried doing it myself and it was a mess. I'll be at the Expo on Saturday morning.

MamaCrush~Hi neighbor! I'm southeast of Charlotte. Isn't this rain and cooler temps we're getting wonderful? Finally!! I'm glad to hear that that things are looking good right now for WDW on Saturday though!

So true! I LOVED running outside in the drizzle Friday. Since I've only been running since the end of June, I don't know anything other than the ungodly heat and humidity!

Great news for those who got picked! I hope your experience is most fun.

I am also excited for those who will be experiencing a first time event! I just know you will be hooked after this.

We leave tomorrow a.m. and I know we will have a great time! Hope to see you Friday at the meet.

Have fun this weekend everyone! I can't believe it's here, there was a time it seemed like it would never get here...now my stomachs doing flip-flops thinking about my first 1/2. :goodvibes I should pack, I think i'll calm down then.
I'll be looking for Wish Green!

We're flying through Charlotte tomorrow evening. Ds is also flying through Charlotte (from Columbia). I would love any updates on the weather. We have had such bad luck with flights lately! We can't seem to go anywhere without a flight getting cancelled. So far, we've been able to get on a different airline that same day, but I'm getting a little paranoid. I am really ready to get out of here!

Hi Everyone!

Just want to thank everyone on this thread as well!!!! Everyone has been so helpful and motivating. I'm leaving this afternoon...can't wait to see Mickey and everyone either at the meet or at the start. We've worked so hard and really earned this!

Those running with Galloway - have a great time!! Can't wait to hear those reports.

Safe Travels and run a great race everyone!!!!

The rain has for the most part already cleared out and forecasts are good to go... Partly Sunny Thursday through Sunday.

Oh, thanks for that! I checked this morning and they were still saying rain through tomorrow afternoon. One less thing to worry about.

First off you are welcome. I know how intimidating it seems when you start something as challenging as a half marathon so hopefully the advice and feedback you got from everyone here has helped at least ease the apprehension aspect of training. The hard work part was all you though.

As for the KT tape, when they were at other expos I attended they had people there to both demonstrate how to tape for different injuries and also pre taped some people. I never needed it (knock on wood) so am not sure how long the wait is or if the taping is free but if they are there at least they should provide some good info. Their goal is to sell tape and they wont' sell any if you can't use it properly.

For the rest of you, good luck. Some people are probably down there, some traveling tonight or early tomorrow, and some traveling on Friday (I'm the later). I have a quick 3 miler tonight to get in and then my next run will be Saturday night. I am looking forward to seeing some of you on Saturday at 4:00 at AKL and afterwards at Boma.

I am right there with you in every word!!

I had my IT Bands and quad taped in January for the full. They will tape you for free. They had a sign in sheet--first come, first served. I waited about 15 minutes or so. You didn't have to buy anything. I had already bought some tape and said they could use that if they wanted, but they used their own.

One thing to consider....wear something that allows them easy access to the area you need taped. Since it was FREEZING during January, I brought a pair of shorts with me to the expo, changed in the bathroom, and then changed back into "Street clothes" when they were done.

They were very friendly and helpful, so I'm sure you can get your taping done.

Good luck everyone!! Wish I was there with you--will be doing 13 miles on Sunday, so I'll just pretend (with the time warp and distance factored in!)

Maura
