Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Since i'm thinking about it now. Does anyone know if there are any hills to contend with on this course? I never take notice while we are there. I know it can't compare to the "land of rolling hills" where I live, but I can't imagine its completely flat. Anyone know?

I think the only elevation changes will be any overpass approaches. At the Half some mention the water bridge by the contemp, but we will not be near that. This is a pretty flat course as far as I am concerned.

Won't be long now!

Oh, and Frank, GREAT time on your half!

This course will actually be one of the 'hillier' courses at WDW. They are overpass approaches but nonetheless, hills for Disney.

Expect ‘hills’ at mile 1.5, 2, 6.5, 7, 8.2, 12.2 and 12.9

SPECTATORS

Where are spectators allowed to watch the Half Marathon and Relay? Spectators will be allowed to view the start and finish of the Half Marathon and Relay. No viewing locations are available on the course or at the Relay Exchange zone.

This is from the FAQ portion of the website...so there is no one to cheer us on other than our fellow runners?! Let's be real supportive of one another out on that course!

We will stick together :). That's why these little pace groups are such a great idea. :goodvibes

Does anyone have any information on where and when to report if you are doing the second half of the relay?

Just go to the WWoS with the rest of the runners and Disney will handle getting you to the transition point. I'm sure there will be more details in the final race instructions that will probably be released in the next couple of weeks.

While I'm still anxiously awaiting the race instructions and post race party map, I did notice that disney has a lot more information posted about transportation on their website. Some of this does not mesh with the plans you all are posting, so make sure you read it and double check!

Cool, thanks for posting that!

Quick question. I just realized when I was creating my mock itinerary for that day, I didn't factor in dinner. I'm doing the whole carb-loading thing at Noon that day. Since the race starts at 10, should I have a light dinner around 5? 6? And what type of meal should I be getting? I was thinking like a chicken salad or something, but I'm not sure if that's right.

I'm going to have a burger for a late lunch, and then a protein bar around 7:30 or so. My body needs protein way more than carbs.

When I did the ToT, which also started at 10, I had a chicken sandwich at Big River, around 3pm. I also added some extra carbs there as well.

keep it light and simple. working backwards, I am planning on a nice carby meal in mid/late afternoon. Right now I am thinking PB&J, but I am sure that I will think of something along the lines of a chicken breast on a bed of salad once the time comes. Then I will follow it up with a snack around 9:30 while we wait for the race. I would not 'load' as loading will only make you bloated or create that lump in the gut later in the day.

Just had a very tough and hilly 7 mile run...and I am so upset, I have the WORST blisters on the backs of my heels all of a sudden. Do you think I should go ahead and wear bandaids in anticipation for blisters at the half? I would hate that to hurt me or slow me down if I dont, but I didnt know if that was silly to do :confused3

I imagine the second group of relayers is going to have a lot of fun together waiting for their partners.

I hope there isn't too much fun to be had. My relay partner has been running 8:30 minute miles for training runs, so I won't be there too long if she keeps that pace! I'm hoping there will be some characters at the trade off point for some cute pictures together while I still look fresh :rotfl:

While everyone is making plans of what to do, don't forget our meet and greet :grouphug: on Friday at 4PM in the AKL lobby. Hope to see many of you. Shannon/bounceliketigger has picked up name tags so we will know who is who.

Keep on training.

Kathy

Ouch! Sorry about the bad run and the blisters. When I've gotten blisters in the past I've used the Band Aid blister ampoules. They work really well for me and they keep the blisters from coming back. Did you change your shoes or socks? Anything different today that would cause the blisters today?

Feel better!

Could be due to lots of things but sounds like you just did not have enough ‘lock’ to keep the heal from sliding. A hillier than normal course, bad socks or shoes that have stretched since new.

Rather than put band aids (which never seem to stick in the shoe) on the area, lube with runner’s lube and look at this lace locking technique

This Runner’s World article has good photos. You use the spare set of eyelets that no one knows why they are there to provide the lock. It will really lock in the heal.

If this does not work, think grey Duct (Duck) Tape and lube over it. It will stick when other forms of protection fail.

Ouch! I bet the duct tape works great for blister protection, but good luck getting that off! Any suggestions? :scared1: Did you see the episode of MythBusters where they cut a car apart, duct taped it back together, then drove it around for hours? lol:rotfl2:

Getting excited for race day. With warm-up and cool-down did 6.3 miles today. Going to go for the long run on Sunday to see where I'm at.

My plan is to run the first 6-7 miles and then do a walk/run combo after that for the remainder. Run 1 song, walk a song, repeat until I'm there. With my walking warm-up and cool-down I'm still at an 11.35 min/mile so I'm happy with that. Not really where I want to be but it's still a decent cushion.

On race day the only plans I have is a pedicure at 11 :) Other than that we will be relaxing by the pool (I will be out of the sun) and then an afternoon nap - maybe, hopefully.

Glad some transportation info is being provided. Going to have to get to Epcot early I expect. Did ToT the inaugural year and traffic to get into MGM was AWFUL!! I anticipate the same for this race.

Good luck everyone these last 2.5 weeks!
