Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Definitely do that! I am so looking forward to that bread pudding! I wonder if that counts as carb-loading! :rotfl:

I love the noodles there that I had last time and the bread pudding, and to me that sounds like a perfect carb load!!! I will send you a message closer to our vaca so I can find you to say hello :goodvibes

Do you all think that I will be able to just take a cab from POP to WWoS? That was my plan. Then if I am traveling with someone, I was just going to have them take a cab to EPCOT for the after party? Does that sound logical?
Sorry just needed some insight from others even if they seem like basic questions :goodvibes

Are there typically buses to WWOS from all the resorts?

I've only been there for the TOT, and that time I walked from BCV to Hollywood, then took a bus from there.

This time I was planning to take one of the Epcot busses or bus hop fr AKV to one of the host resorts. Of course, by the time I do that I guess I could just take a cab.:rolleyes1

The only ‘regular’ bus to WWoS makes a loop from All Stars to WWoS. The routes were revised during the last year. Why not just take the regular bus from AKV to Epcot then the race bus to the start. To resort hop requires going to a park or DTD then to the host resort.

From Pop, take the regular Disney bus to Epcot then the Race bus to the start.

While Disney has not issued their race day info yet, you can bet that Disney will want runners in the start area by 9:30. Assuming a 30 minute trip (catching the marathon bus and for the ride) plus 15 minutes to get from the Epcot bus line to the race bus pickup spot and the suggested allow 30 minutes for a bus ride to the park, this would have you looking to catch the Epcot bus around 8:15. Work backwards for any added buffer you want to include in the mix. Even with my assumptions you will still be in the normal Disney bus schedule so getting to Epcot on Disney bussing is not out of the question.

For both you and any other person not staying at a host resort the better way home will be a cab. Do not head out the front of Epcot and expect to find a line of cabbies at 12:45 am (or 3 am)…. rather, exit international gate and walk to one of the resorts and hail a cab there.

For non-host resort spectators looking for a ride to the post-race party, I would have them resort hop on Disney bussing. Take a 9-9:30 pm bus from your resort to DTD then change busses to an Epcot Resort bus at DTD. I would off load at Beach/Yacht and then hang there until the post-race party opens. Off course you could purchase the spectator package and have a nice area for them to see the start and then bussed back to Epcot…. But since this is a point to point night race this seems like a waste.

...forget trying to get to the race start at WWoS on time!

How do we get to the Expo (I'm assuming it'll be held at WWoS) either on Friday or Saturday to get our race packets?

I'm running both the 5K at 7 AM and the half at 10 PM, so I'll need to go pick up my packets on Friday. If I'm park touring on Friday (say, at DHS), should I catch a bus/boat to Epcot, then catch a bus to WWoS? Or will they be accommodating the higher WWoS traffic on race weekend and have buses from all the parks to WWoS on Friday and Saturday?

Or, like others have suggested, should I just simplify my life and catch a cab to WWoS, then sort out a way back to my resort (BWV) after I get all my paperwork done?

I'm so confused! And I probably wouldn't have even worried about any of this had I not kept up with this thread. Y'all are a bad influence on the Calm/Zen Me!

I think there is a regular bus to WWoS that leaves from Hollywood Studios. If you're facing the front of the studios, the bus pickup is to the left side of the front area. I had to go to WWoS for something else one time and this is what I did.

Renee,
If you are already at DHS (it will always be MGM to me...) just go out to the front and follow the signs for the busses, there is a bus that goes to WWoS. As for getting to the race, someone said BW is now one of the host hotels with bussing. If not, I plan to walk over to BC and get the bus from there.

I've taken the bus from MGM (oops DHS) to WWoS before, but I think that bus has been eliminated. According to the WWoS main website (not the endurance portion) there is a regular bus from Pop to WWoS - the problem is that I've called and the CMs I've spoken to haven't been really positive about their information. I figured I'd ask when I check in at Pop, and worst case scenario take a cab...more likely I will start at a park, take a resort bus to one of the host resorts, and get an expo bus from there - which of course is a pain, but I way prefer Pop over AllStars, so I am willing to put up with a little inconvenience to stay where I want.

I'm in a bit of a panic and need some advice! We were supposed to do our longest run of 10 miles today and then start tapering. Next Saturday was 8 and the next is 5. Anyway, we ended up having to cut our run short at 6 miles due to some non-running reasons (too dark and poor lighting, etc). I'm afraid that I have blown the last 16 weeks of training because I can't see how to get in our 10 miler. We can't do it tomorrow because of the 6 today and then we will be out of town alternately this week. What do we do? Can we shift it to next Saturday or is that too much too close? Please help!

Tapering for the half isn't all that necessary so I would just do the 10 miler next weekend.

I have felt very burned out from running lately. I remember reading a book called Ice Castles back in the day about a girl in a small town who loved figure skating and the freedom that came with it. Long story short she became a competitive ice skater and found when she was ice skating constantly it felt very binding and structured (she also became blind trying to get that feeling back). I missed the freedom of just going out and running for running's sake and not having a mileage I had to make or pace I felt pressured to keep. So I had a couple of weeks of just going out and running and not caring what mileage I did or time I was making and I think it got me back on course. I guess I'm ready? (how's that for enthusiasm?)
QUOTE]

Interesting that you say this. I'm not running the WIne and Dine half, but I am training for the Princess Half and another Half this fall. I'm a pretty slow runner and lately I've seen my paces getting slower... 13 + and growing! So, I stopped thinking about pace for a change, and just went out to run. I did try to get the mileage in that is on my plan, but just figured a 15 min pace. So if I had to get in 8 miles - I'd go running for 2 hours, for example. Well, I really hadn't timed myself properly for several weeks. Then I was in a race and somehow, managed to get proof of time for both of my upcoming halfs! I could not believe the improvement in my pace! Anyway, point I'm trying to make is I do think it helps to take a break from the clock now an then, and just enjoy the run.

Good luck to all of you on the W&D! :)

I want to AMEND my statement about the 'regular' Disney bus service to WWoS. I based my answer on a January the bus map I picked up stating All Star. However, due to all the different responses above I thought, what does the mouse say?

Well, I find that bus service to the WWoS only originates from
AllStar Resorts, DHS AND CBR/Pop but only during certain evening hours. These various bits of information are all listed as the only bus route to the facility. All the above are listed on different ‘official’ pages on the Disney website. No wonder folks get confused.

The best piece of advice is to get to a host resort and take the race bus to the expo. They will run more regularly than the official disney bus regardless of where the route originates.

I agree with Frank. run 10 next weekend and then split the two difference between the two remaining runs or run 6-7 for the 'taper' week.

You will do fine.

I'm no expert, but I'm following Hal Higdon's guide and he's an expert. I'm running 9 next weekend and 10 the weekend before the race. Then tapering just the week before. So I'd think you'd be a-ok running 10 next weekend, then 5 the weekend before. :confused3 I def don't think you've blown your training...

I've found with me, the mental fear is what keeps me from running farther/faster! Stay positive!

I can't believe we only have 2 more Saturday runs before the BIG ONE!!

:)

I did it:banana::banana:

I walked/ran my first 4.8miles ever!!Yay! And if my calculations are correct I did it at a 14mpm pace:cool1:

First part of Relay Ready!:goodvibes

Thank you all! I feel much better. We will move our 10 miler to next week and be sure to get an earlier start! Thanks again!

Way to go! I'm right there with you!

Congratulations momhmmx2. I think you will find that come race day you get a boost in pace. I still can't duplicate even my race pace for a 5K in training.

Well, good news on that half. My cold went away pretty much 100% when I woke up this morning and after the first mile I didn't feel any bad effects. Since the course was a point to point and almost all downhill to one extent or another I was hoping for a PR despite just getting over the cold and managed one, 1:27:17. It will be rough to better that at the W&D but maybe not being sick for the week leading up to it will make up for the lack of downhill roadway.

Hope everyone got their long runs in this weekend and they went well.

Congratulations - See you at the finish party!:thumbsup2
Frank Congratulations on the PR half. I think the WnD times will be driven primarily by the weather.

So what are everyone's plans for race day? I'm thinking that it's going to be a good day for me to hit the expo, as we have a very fast trip (in at noon on Friday, out at noon on Monday), so I figure I can wander Food & Wine Friday when we get in, try to sleep late Saturday, get up, have a solid breakfast, head over to the expos, and not worry that it will be a bit crowded? I just want to make the best use of my few days in Disney!

I plan on sleeping in as much as possible, grabbing breakfast and heading over the the expo at that point. After the expo, probably just head back to POP where I plan on just relaxing all day :goodvibes I might go play a round of mini golf during the day, I have never done that at WDW and it sounded like something fun and not too stressful :thumbsup2
