Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

You are correct, you have to use the tickets on the 3rd but you can give them to someone else.

I thought about it for about 30 seconds but since I would be paying $100 for a 5K (I also leave early on 10/3) I didn't do it. Even $50 for a 5K is a bit ridiculous but it is Disney and they often do ridiculous when it comes to what they charge.

I do plan on being there to cheer on people I know but there is a chance the snooze button will win the battle with my willpower that morning. We'll have to wait and see.

Is there any info yet about spectators for the 5k?

I'd like to know this also. It will be my first race ever and I'm sure an encouraging group of spectators will help push me along. I'd like to give my DH an idea of how to best position himself for just this purpose!

I know that spectators will not be allowed in the park. If you look at the course map I think lining up next to the course won't be an issue.

It looks like the start will be close to the monorail stop on Topiary Ln. You'll then head up World Drive but that is when it gets weird. The map indicates you will cut over towards the main entrance and then go through the park exiting behind Space Mountain. The description on this page is the exact opposite though. I shot Disney an email to get some clarification but either way the race will at one point be on Monorail Way and it looks like will take either the same entrance as marathon weekend or use that as the exit. I guess the runners will then either enter or exit via the bus loop and main gate area in the other direction. It then looks like the finish will pass the cut off for Topiary Ln and finish on World Drive closer to the intersection of Timberline Dr.

Hum, maybe I'll have to hang out there and then shoot into the Wilderness Lodge for a late breakfast/early lunch <insert rubs chin smiley>

Awww, don't hit that button Frank.....

I don't plan on it and will try my hardest to fight the urge. I'm going to talk to Dave and see if he is planning on doing a blog posting for the DIS on the weekend. If not I told Corey I would and that would be some added incentive not to hit the button.

Very cool! I enjoyed your article about traveling solo!

Frank, same thing - I plan on cheering as well ... if I don't hit the snooze. :teeth:

.

This is a nice little course. I run the loop from Contemp to MK to the canal some mornings. Coming down the bus lane is a good surface and is not encumbered by a curb. The course does enter the main gate and down Main the into Adventureland, back to the hub through Fronteerland and crsses into the hub and beside the rose garden into Fantasyland. From there into Tomorrow land and exits near the stage next to Caroussel of Progress. It back tracks the marathon course towards Contemp taking a cast member road and then south on Floridian onto Topiary where the finish will be. It would not end on Floridian I would think since that is a main road that would need onpened quickly.

Coach Charles, since spectators won't be allowed into the Magic Kingdom, any suggestions on where my DH should be for cheering/encouragement??

Since you start at the TTC area (The old bus stops for the TTC) I would have your spectators hopp the monorail to the Contemporary. The will need to be out there at least 15-20 minutes pre-race to assure they can cross Floridian. From the CR, walk across the parking lot like headed to MK. Cross Floridian and camp there. They will want to be on the north side of the bus stops (kind of on the sidewalk to MK) yet near the roadway. From this point they can see you at mile 0.75 and 2.4 (ish). You need to be course right as you turn into the bus depot and again course right as you came back and hit this same intersection. After you pass, they can walk to the MK monorail station or ferry and go back to the finish area.

I just received an email form Disney Endurance - in it was a link to the ChEAR squad where you can sign up for a free e newsletter with info on the viewing areas to see runners. http://adisneyworldsports.disney.go.com/media/ewwos/pdf/DWDHChearSquad.pdf

I think this is for the half, only. Could be mistaken

Well screwed up my training for a couple of days. I was out in my yard barefoot and I stepped on a bee (obviously not on purpose). Foot hurts so freaking bad right now!! Stupid bee.

Cobbler, that must have hurted. I hope your foot is better soon since we only have five more weeks to go.

I hope your foot pain will beegone soon;):goodvibes

So, any thoughts on the ChEAR Squad? My friends have already purchased the after party tickets, I am not crazy about them having to purchase another package...how important is it that they are transported from start to finish etc....??

THis is my first 1/2 and their first 1/2 as spectators...so yes, I am clueless.

I'm thinking of getting it for DH & DD if for no other reason than knowing where they will be when we're done! :)

Well, my friend.... I didn't purchase a package from the link you sent but I did sign up for the free Bronze package which is nothing more than the newsletter, I believe. Kathrin signed up too. We will be there to ChEAR you and Laura's family on!! :cheer2:

And then we party. ;)

My foot is feeling 1000% better and I think I'm going to go out for a run today. That means I only lost 1 day of training so that isn't too horrible. Getting ready for my 10K next weekend - I want to use that time for corral placement.

Glad to hear your foot is better..can I ask how many days a week you train?
i have been to the gym abt 3 times a week...I was approached by a personal trainer today and I am going to do a few sessions. Hoping to get some expertise training in tips in preparing...and what I should/should not be doing.

Good Luck on your 10K!

I'm curious to hear how you make out with the trainer. Hope you give us a note after. I was thinking about hiring a "movement" expert/ trainer. He would video my stride, evaluate, and give pointers based on that.
