Inappropriate costumes at MNSSHP

Honestly, this discussion makes me feel dirty... I think there's a difference between "kids dress inappropriately sometimes" which can be generally true (though I didn't see more or less of inappropriate dress at MNSSHP then any other typical day at Disney, or anywhere else for that matter) to "kids are abused because of how they dress."

Most adults, when confronted with somebody, child or otherwise, who's dressed inappropriately can control themselves. Those who can't don't need how the victim is dressed to trigger it.

And I find a distinct irony in that those who are offended by the dress of some to be the ones who turn this into a discussion that is sexually graphic.

Guess it 'depends' on where you look. But maybe the more appropriate response would be, "Wow, we need to do more to protect our children."

I don't know how to link, but here's where I got it. Not that there is a huge difference between 1 in 3, or 1 in 5, or 1 in 100,000,000. It's one too many!

From the HCCAC.org website:

Child Sexual Assault: Other Facts

"Approximately 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Persons with developmental disabilities are sexually assaulted more frequently by a factor estimated between 4 and 10.

The average victim of child abuse is between 8 and 11 years old. Some experts suggest that the most vulnerable child is between the ages of 6 and 10, and living in a two-parent home. Some experts estimate that 5 or 6 children in a typical classroom of thirty have been affected by sexual abuse, regardless of geographic area, race, or socioeconomic class...."

As for your other comment about MNNSHP being a 'hotbed' for abuse...It doesn't have to be there. It can be anywhere. You missed the point. There was a sexual preditor in our town who took pictures of children (ages 9-15) playing in the pool. He was found with 1000's on his computer...I wouldn't let my child dress to 'entice' anyone...Whether it was a costume, bikkini, or booty shorts, it's inappropriate to sexualize children. I guess I just don't understand why a parent would allow it. JMO.

My niece is a senior in highschool. She chooses to dress modestly and sometimes gets made fun of for it. She tells me how all her friends are having sex, multiple partners, and she can't believe how many girls tolerate guys hitting them. She called me up crying because on her second 'date' with her boyfriend, he wanted to have sex and she told him no. He then pushed her and told her if she didn't want to, he could just get it from some other girl. There are plenty to choose from.

The point is, if women keep 'objectifying' themselves, men will continue to objectify them. Girls should be taught self-respect, and boys should be taught to respect girls.

This is my opinion. Everyone is entitlted to one.

I'm 37 and have been with my wife for 23 years. I respect her very much, I also objectify the hell out of her.

Look at this that way, those who like sexy costumes, will enjoy watching people wearing them, those who hates sexy outfits, have a perfect opportunity to teach kids "right" and "wrong".
Case closed.;) yeah, right.:lmao:

Since you were fourteen! :thumbsup2 High school sweethearts, eh?

I objectify my husband, too. And it warmed my heart the time I heard through the window, him commenting to our neighbour, "Yeah, my wife's hot." :lmao:

I also objectify Benedict Cumberbatch. And John Barrowman. And the occasional random hot guy I see wandering by. Nothing wrong with appreciating the scenery, as long as you don't harass anyone or make them uncomfortable.

i feel this thread is getting a little out of hand, going from inappropriate costumes to rape....

there are a very big difference and talk like this should not be on a board like this! :scared1::scared1::mad:

Thanks, I agree :)

The best costume I saw last week as a family which all dressed the exact same, same t-shirts and same shorts but the important part - had one leader with a flag. My wife and I both laughed out loud - if we are able to ever go back to a MNSSHP - that may be our family costume. Only Disney folks would get it...

I saw that posted somewhere. From the front, they weren't the same, but it was obvious that they were message board people. Each person had a different phrase on the front, like refillable mug re-user, bratty cheerleader, etc. (not those *exact* words, but the same concept) That made it even more hilarious.

What in the world is inappropriate about this young woman's costume?

For me, it's the thigh highs, and *especially* the bows on the front. People wear those things for sex appeal. Stockings (for garters) and thigh highs are a million times sexier than nylons or full tights.

Now I'm sure the costume people include them because they are much more size-less than a full set of tights would be. But most people would see the costume with the thigh highs with bows as a whole lot sexier than if the person wore proper tights.

That's not even close to what I meant...interesting you came away with that oh, and btw, I watch very little tv actually.
Take "terrorism" as an example; when I was a kid (right after the dinosaurs roamed the earth ;) ) the cars in people's driveways weren't locked, in fact the keys were left in the ignition. The doors to people's home were rarely locked - in case a neighbor needed to come in and use the phone. That all started to change went (as I see it) the behavior of society started to change to include (with frequency) things like stealing....that was/is a form of terrorism....kids of all ages would walk to school alone, would go out and play unsupervised - then the terrorism of possibilities of those actions took over and very little of that happens nowadays.

Meh. My mom was born in '44 and didn't live in the world you lived in. My grandparents were born much earlier and didn't live in that day.

My mom's group (hippies) thought they were creating an idealistic world, and then, as she said, Charles Manson destroyed the idea that hippies were peaceful, calm, happy people, so there was no area of innocence in the world at all.

Going to school...any thought of it being stressfree, IF you had that feeling, was destroyed by the Chowchilla schoolbus kidnapping/hijacking.

etc etc etc.

The peaceful times were a very very BRIEF period of time ONLY in a very small portion of the world (the parts not under continuous occupancy by hostile forces, or living in brutal poverty of course), and most of the people of my mom's generation *that I have had real conversations with* have told me that THAT was perpetuated by TV. So TV might be the devil, but it's the opposite of how you feel; Leave it to Beaver showed a time that people wanted, but it never, or hardly ever, existed in reality.

Heck, go back to Upton Sinclair, go read your Roman History...the sweet innocent kids are kids times...pretty much never existed. Human nature has always been the same, and humans aren't perfect and never have been.

I was there last night. I saw costumes very similar to the the one below. I agree that it may be pushing the envelope a little, but it didn't really reveal anything. I was just jealous that I could never pull off something like that...even in my younger days! :goodvibes

If someone were to photoshop full tights on that costume, instead of those thigh highs, it would appear quite a bit different, IMO.

My cousin and her husband had what I felt were the BEST costumes on the 13th. They were Indiana Jones and Marion. They looked fabulous! And they were fully covered, all limbs entirely covered by fabric. It took them awhile to find all the pieces for those costumes, and it was well worth it! That's the sort of creativity I think people should use for costumes... (and I don't have that creativity, so I rarely dress up. My costumes are generally name-related, like the devil horns and tail I wore with a blue dress once, I was the Good Golly Miss Molly/Devil With a Blue Dress mix-up song you often hear....but you only get those if you know my name...)
