Inappropriate costumes at MNSSHP

That picture is actually from DL New Orleans Square, they are mother/daughter and yes that is skin. I have a larger cut copy and in it you can see 2 security agents who are about to escort them from the park.

Actually no, this was at Mardi Gras, as in the original picture you can see a sign in the background for Tricous Hous which is at 711 Bourbon St. You can see the 11 part of the address.

I'd have to do more research before I could agree or disagree with this.

I believe we need to immediately dispatch a field research team to investigate this matter more thoroughly. I volunteer to lead the expedition.

I just wish that the complainers would quit hiding behind the "I don't want the little children seeing all that "and simply say, they don't want their DH's seeing the costumes. Because little children have no idea there is anything sexy or provocative about seeing bosoms or legs.

It all could depend on what people can afford aswell. I've looked at Disney costumes on websites where the 'sexy' ones have been priced from £20-£50 and the normal length Cinderella or Belle dresses have been between £100-£175. A lot of parents won't pay that, I wouldn't pay that for myself. I personally think that even £50 is expensive for a fancy dress costume considering you don't wear it often, some people only wear their costume once because they like to be something different every year, they should be a bit cheaper I think.

I agree with the comment that bikini's etc show more, I was at Typhoon Lagoon last year and there was a woman with her husband and kids walking around in a thong bikini. I didn't expect to see that in Typhoon Lagoon

IMO It doesn't matter if you feel that teens shouldn't wear "inappropriate" costumes because your kids are around. This day and age your kids are going to see it somewhere, unless you never let them leave your house, watch any t.v.,look at magazines, or use the web.

Never once have I mentioned my kids being around those costumes because I don't have any kids. I just think those costumes don't have a place at the Magic Kingdom (along the same lines as alcohol not being served in the MK!) or to be worn by young teens.

Again, I've never said "I don't want the little children seeing all that" - and I don't care if my OH looks at people in those costumes... I'm sure he's looked at much worse! (and tbh he wouldn't look at teen girls in sexy costumes, he thinks they look horrid and innapropriate!)

Yes, these young kids don't KNOW that these costumes are sexy and provocative, but seeing them in such a wholesome environment as the MK is surely setting a bad example that these costumes are the norm (which they seem to be now-a-days)

I suppose this means that I am all for just preserving the wholesomeness, and integrity of the Magic Kingdom.

FWIW If I saw a load of adults wearing these costumes in Pleasure Island (back when it was an ADULTS entertainment complex) I wouldn't bat an eyelid!

Last year the DW and I went to our first costume party in 20 years. When trying to find costumes it was impossible to find a womens costume that wasn't on the risque side..not that I minded of course! The wife decided on the "German Beer Girl" (it was Oktoberfest) and I thought it was a tame costume compared to most.
Now I doubt she would wear this same costume to MK simply because of all the kids...but, we have noticed that some of the costumes worn by cast members were just as revealing and I never saw parents covering the eyes of their children then.....
And in case your wondering, we BOTH went as German Beer Girls!! AND NO I never dressed like a girl as a child...AND since this thread is useless w/out pics...here ya go!

well, to be honest...even though the costume isn't unflattering on you, i DO think it's extremely short and inappropriate in a family setting.

And there ARE costumes out there for grown ups that are not 'sexy'...check ebay...use some creativity...some effort.

As for not dresing as characters, DH and I dressed as pirates last year and several people thought we were cast members. So that theory is shot.

What in the world is inappropriate about this young woman's costume?

I'm the Mom of a 19 yr old girl and I would have no problem with her wearing this anywhere, including school (I'm talking High school back then) Now this would be called tame at college.

You do realize that when I was in Jr Hi and my sister was in High school our school and church dresses were about 3 inches shorter than this. Your dress NEVER was lower than your fingertips, and little girls regularly wore there dresses up to their panties, in other words just below the butt.

Scotty - YOU are awesome!

I couldn't believe that not one person noticed the Mickey "jibblit" on my right croc when I wore that costume!!

Why thank you Candlz!

This was what I found the most disturbing about the costumes! Women I don't have so much of a problem with since they are technically adults, but most of the adults in costume we saw were totally inappropriate. It was the 12-14 age group that dressed the worst from what I saw. Very creepy for a Disney setting.

That's the age where girls really want to push the envelope, though, to try to prove they aren't little girls any more. That hasn't changed much through the years I don't think. When I was that age it was Daisy Duke, Madonna, and other pop-culture icons that were sexy on their own rather than the flirty/sexy versions of standard costumes, but the intent was the same.

I call Second In Command!!!

Count me in... somebody has to actually do all the work of examining the costumes with that much management on this team. :thumbsup2

We must begin immediately.

I volunteer for a very small and technical role in the mission. I will measure the hemlines and calculate an average length. I can also document the mission with photographs.

In the name of science, of course.

There's no problem with the shirt somewhere else. WDW, I would be upset. Mardi Gras, I'd say OK there.

I guess I was taking cues from my sis's Breast Cancer experience, and I was relaying more personal thoughts. But my sis is quiet and shy, too. You took your cue from your experiences. Thanks for support for the cure. It's all good.

I'm not sure you looked closely at those shirts. Those are actually their bare breasts sticking out through holes cut in the shirt...not something ON the outside of the shirt. I would think there are very few places where that shirt would be appropriate.

Yeah... I thought it was just a t-shirt, too, when I posted the picture. Didn't realize those were pasties. What can I say, I've got a small screen.

Mardi-gras in New Orleans, though... Or Spring Break in Las Vegas... Or maybe one of the bigger Pride Parades... Seen some pretty shocking pictures. So I guess pasties wouldn't be out of order in those venues.

(Now I'm remembering that Simpsons episode with the Brazilian kid's programming and the lady spinning her tassels - "Clockwise! Counterclockwise!")

Honestly, having just done MNSSHP, we saw a lot of costumes and I didn't see any that I found to be offensive or sexual. But then again, I am not offended by the Alice or Queen of Hearts that was posted earlier in the thread. The only time I noticed a costume was if it was exceptionally good, which there were a ton (the girl dressed as Ariel, the folks in the Tower of Terror uniforms), and the people who looked exceptionally bad because what they were wearing was unflattering. Honestly, it's no different then every other day... Noticing the people who look great in what they wear and those who look not-so-great... It's just it was costumes instead of normal outfits.

Though I will say, telling people to "be creative" because they wear a costume you don't like is, I think, kind of a cheap shot. What's the difference between somebody who buys a costume and somebody who buys any other outfit that they wear day-to-day? I buy my costumes generally because it's cheaper and faster then putting it together myself and if I find something I like that's flattering, why not? It's not any more or less creative than buying any other article of clothes from any store. At any given point at Disney I'm sure there are at least a few thousand people wearing the same Levi jeans as I am, maybe even a couple hundred who own the same shirt I got at Kohls. Who cares?

At the party, I was just glad to see people having fun and it was great to see the costumes regardless of if they were from a bag or made at home. And it didn't matter that there were 100 different people there dressed as Jack Sparrow, it didn't matter that every other little girl who I saw was a Disney Princess, or that I saw like 3 families dressed as the family from The Incredibles... It was just a good time. And I didn't see anybody dressed in such a way that was inappropriate for Disney.

As a related note brought up earlier, I'd say 70% of who we saw was a variation of a Disney person, either castmember at the park or a character. The only thing they tell you is that you can't sign autographs, have pictures taken with other guests in the park, sign autographs, or otherwise present yourself as an employee.

The skimpy Halloween costume is the best part of the holiday. They are, however, a privileged and not a right if you get my drift. No one wants to see what looks like the mouth of a basset hound hanging out of the front of your costume.
