In What Century Is Dvc Tech Operating?!?! UPDATE (post #1) 10/20/07

Complaining about the current website not being functional is one thing. Critisizing the competency of the Disney techs is another. As I have already stated, many factors come into play whenever an application is working or not : network issues, software issues, USER issues. Complain away about your inconviences, but lets put the comments about the techs to bed. Unless you are someone of expertise......popcorn:: ...still waiting on that one.

I'm sure the Disney techs are well qualified and competent, but the decsion makers and designers obvioulsy don't have a clue what people want from a website. No reasonable person who has used the DVC website can claim that it is a well designed, functional website. Sure there is a lot of eye candy on the website, as there is on Disney's main site, but none of them are user friendly, and the DVC site in particular is nearly useless in functionality and is very buggy. Really, what does the DVC website do that is complex at all? Providing non-interactive information with linked webpages and pop-ups is basic stuff. The only "complex" thing that members want is some control over their accounts, and the limited control options they do have are down half the time, or are not available yet.

Point is, Disney has more money than God, but they apparantly don't want to spend the money on this kind of functionality that, with all due respect, can't be any more difficult than what a bank or financial institution does. Instead, Disney fills their websites with useless eye candy, graphics, multimedia, sound, etc., making it difficult, time consuming, and annoying to navigate and find the slivers of useful information and functionality. Just the lag time on their drop down menus drives me nuts, for example. They try to make them "bouncy" for visual effect, but its just annoying and makes you accidentally choose the wrong selection.

I know that the DVC website was worked on overnight, and now I cannot even log-in. Please tell me I am not the only one. Perhaps it will be down for the short term??

Nope, I can't get in either. Even though the maintenanc allert says it is available from 6 AM on today, it is still down for me.

Maybe that's what my issue is. I tried late last night to log on to change my emial address with them. I tried the old one and no go. So I tried the new one (because I had already changed it with Disney.com) and no go. So, I tried calling customer service and no go with either the new or the old. She evn tried to have me register again with the new email address and it said that user name was already in use. That leads me to believe that it has the new email on file. And now after reading your post I'm thinking that's the problem and not my new email address. Can anyone else not log in at all?

This is very frustrating for ME!! i rely on websites since using the phone can be difficult for me since i am deaf (about 85%, i can hear a little bit but also depending who talks (clearly) on other side) and i HATE to use the phone as an alternative when website are down. I think DVC being down in "vacation details" this far long is ridiculous!! :sad2:

Thanks for posting. I just wanted to verify that the website maintenance hadn't broken my DVC login while it had fixed things for others! Sure would be nice if the log-in page just stated that the website is down for now. That is what others, like my banks, do.

I can log-in but our account/vactin info portion is still down,

We are currently unable to access your Disney Vacation Club Membership information while we perform scheduled system activities.

Updates don't always go as planned.

There's a note on the home page you get after you log in telling you about the times by time zone that the system will be down for maintenance. You should be able to log in to see it.

It's truly disappointing that DVC members seem to continually have problems with the dvcmember web site.

Hopefully, DVC will invest some time and money in re-architecting the site to be more stable and trouble-free.

I just tried mine and still no access. It still says pasge is not available. What did they fix? :confused3

I'd like to know, too! Looks like nothing at all was fixed.

Funny, it worked right off the bat for me on my Mac with Firefox today.

I have not been able to logon via my mac in a long time.

I made ME reservations the other day. I tried FF on my XP box, but no go. I hade to use IE for that to work properly.

Read the update thankyou. I`m starting to feel very sorry for the tech guys.

I had emailed DVC last week after the maitenance-thinking the scheduled downtime was the perfect opportunity to correct this problem...but when it still remains unchanged for weeks---it shows there are serious problems.

Here is the response I got:

Dear Canwegosoon,

Thank you for contacting Member Services. The challenges you are facing
in viewing your Vacation Details on dvcmember.com was recently brought to the attention of our IT Partners. They are working on identifying the
cause so that they can correct the issue. We do appreciate your concern
and your continued patience as we hope to have this resolved soon.

Sincerely

The "recently" made me laugh-since you know on day 1- there were people complaining:rotfl: -I waited a couple of weeks and after the downtime like I said.

My DH is a VP of IS at a huge hospital-ok not as big as WDW, so-I know things take time etc, but it is very flustrating to the DVC membership users. Instead of "sorry "...there should be instructions like contact MS for help in planning your vacations (and list the phone number and hours). Users don't need a daily sorry, unless it is a temporary system problem. Which this is not. I know the situation is stressful for IT, so I try to remember that, but when DVC made the decision to only do online confirmation of waitlist-this was a predictable hot area.

I am hoping the IT partners are quickly designing and testing the new program, and hope it will be up soon.

I have had the exact same message about "scheduled maintanence activities" on my account since JULY!! I have called and e-mailed about it multiple times and all I get in response is that the techs are aware of the problem and are working on it. Really? For four months I have been able to access absolutely nothing in regards to my account. Now when I e-mail to ask about it, the person who had been writing to me will not even write me back. I get the standard "you will have a response within 3 days" message, but no one ever actually writes back at all. SO FRUSTRATING!:headache:

Yep, this is the exact same form e-mail that I have been getting since reporting it in July. Just substitute my name in the greeting and a different name in the signature, as it wasn't Todd who wrote me back the first two times, but someone else. And as I said above, they won't even write me back at all now.
