In Training: Marathon Weekend 2015 (Dopey Challenge)! **COMPLETE**

Getting caught up on your recent updates. :cool1:

I'm glad you were able to get the flights all worked out. Sometimes that can be such a huge hassle and with you and Will arriving separately it would really be a pain. I think the Saturday arrival makes perfect sense. :thumbsup2

Sounds like your training is still going pretty well. Sorry you had a bad outing on your planned 9-miler. But, I think it's really hard to get stopped mid-run and then have to restart. Especially on a treadmill. Blech.

And, it sounds like your 10-miler time has you in a pretty good position for corral placement. I wish ours could be that good! But, hey, takes the pressure off for the half-marathon right. I mean if you get an awesome time that's great, but if not, you have a good proof of time in already.

Congrats on selling the Sparkleskirt. I think that's a great price! It's crazy to me how well they hold their value. :faint: Makes me feel better about the ones I've bought. And woohoo on that new haunted pattern. I love it! :lovestruc I will definitely be on the lookout for it. I'm excited that it says they will be making skirts from it in all the style since I like the slim cut.

Congrats on working out the flight details!!pixiedust: Here's hoping his flight gets in a little early!

I love the new SparkleSkirt. I just might have to breakdown and get that one too. Since it doesn't appear that I will ever get the Disney Haunted Mansion Dooney this might have to do instead.

Happy running this weekend! It is 9 miles for me which means a 5:30am wake up call, ugh.

Oh, should have mentioned my name sooner, it is Heather, I forget sometimes that my login name is different on this website.

Ahhhhhhh ... finally caught up! It's been too long! Glad you had fun on the cruise- your thoughts of the upcharge meals echo my own- Palo brunch was the best, Remy is the one I would skip in the future. When I went on the cruise the Remy brunch didn't exist- I would be curious to try that one. The 5k looks miserable. Seeing your trip report has evaporated any remaining guilt I had about not doing it and instead laid on the beach with my breakfast Mai Tai (yes- fruit juice= breakfast food on a cruise!)
I wouldn't look at it as you wasted $25 on the race- you invested it in your cousin's running career! Having someone with her probably made the difference in if she feels like every trying again or not. Our local movie theater just had a Ninja Turtles 5K that I took my daughters to for their first race. My 8 year old was outpacing me- I kept worrying she was going too fast because she didn't understand the distance, but nope, she finished strong. I think I have a little distance runner to cultivate!
I just managed to sign up for the Wine and Dine half in November. My estimated half finish time is 2:05 which I think would put me in D based on the old system, but of course, who knows how they are going to change it up this year. I'm kind of nervous about following it up with the Avengers half the next week, but I just need to remind myself that it's not like I actually race Disney events- they are for fun and atmosphere, not to PR for me.
And crud, I haven't even thought about marathon dining reservations. What would you recommend for the best post marathon meal? Are you more for getting the food in you ASAP or do you shower and nap and then have the big celebratory meal?
Yay for the Disneyland Half! I'm gearing up for the Dumbo Double Dare at the end of this month. Just this morning I did a 12 mile run and when I saw it was 84 degrees at 5 am I decided that I am done with end of summer half marathons. The training has been miserable. I think you are going to really enjoy the logistics of the Disneyland races over the Disney World ones. None of this bus at 3 am and walk a mile to the start line crap. If you are at one of the Disneyland hotels you walk out of the hotel take about thirty steps and you are at the corrals.
I've stayed at the three Disneyland hotels, but never at the Grand Californian villas. It's weird that they don't have the 2015 dates yet. Isn't it always on Labor Day weekend? What is there to still figure out?! I'm excited about the Haunted Mansion sparkle skirt, but I'm sure by the time I get to the expo on Friday they'll be sold out. I'll keep the dream alive, though! Ugh, and I really don't like the Disneyland Half Dooney. It looks so lazy! It still features Dopey and Goofy and says "Disneyland Marathon" which is just incorrect. It just seems like as little effort as possible was put into changing the pattern from the WDW marathon one. The good news is I won't be tempted to buy it.

Yay for finally getting everything settled with the flights!

I am doing C2C this year (3 more weeks!!). I figured 2014 would be my only chance to do it, not predicting I would end up signing up for Dopey in 2015!

I wonder if they want to change the dates of the race next year because Labor Day is so late? If no one posts it sooner, I will post whatever info I see at the expo.

Getting caught up on your recent updates.
:cool1:
I'm glad you were able to get the flights all worked out. Sometimes that can be such a huge hassle and with you and Will arriving separately it would really be a pain. I think the Saturday arrival makes perfect sense.
Me too, that is such a load off of my mind! Admittedly I probably made a bigger deal over it than I should have... But I am still relieved. I think the Saturday arrival is a great idea too, I can't believe that never occurred to us before in 4 years of doing these Disney races. :confused3
Sounds like your training is still going pretty well. Sorry you had a bad outing on your planned 9-miler. But, I think it's really hard to get stopped mid-run and then have to restart. Especially on a treadmill. Blech.
I'm pretty happy with the training so far! I'm starting to get into these longer runs, though, that I haven't done in so long and that freaks me out year after year...which is why it's so inspiring to read about YOU doing yours!! So thank you for posting about that! :goodvibes
And, it sounds like your 10-miler time has you in a pretty good position for corral placement. I wish ours could be that good! But, hey, takes the pressure off for the half-marathon right. I mean if you get an awesome time that's great, but if not, you have a good proof of time in already.
I have always felt like Disney has placed me in the proper corral so hopefully that trend will continue this year. :) I hope I get an awesome time for this half, too...getting nervous about it already!
Congrats on selling the Sparkleskirt. I think that's a great price! It's crazy to me how well they hold their value. Makes me feel better about the ones I've bought.
EXACTLY! :thumbsup2
And woohoo on that new haunted pattern. I love it! I will definitely be on the lookout for it. I'm excited that it says they will be making skirts from it in all the style since I like the slim cut.
Me tooooo! I'm wondering if that will be what they do from now on, making the skirts in all of the different cuts...it sort of makes sense to me.
Congrats on working out the flight details!! Here's hoping his flight gets in a little early!
Thanks, and thank you again for suggesting the Saturday flight! Seriously, game changed. I hope he gets in a little bit early too, that would be great! :)
I love the new SparkleSkirt. I just might have to breakdown and get that one too. Since it doesn't appear that I will ever get the Disney Haunted Mansion Dooney this might have to do instead.
I love it too. Especially since it's purple! I bet it will be a big seller for them.
Happy running this weekend! It is 9 miles for me which means a 5:30am wake up call, ugh.
 5:30, YIKES! Major props to you for being so disciplined. I have 10 miles this weekend...we had lots of errands to do today at places that aren't open on Sundays so I pushed my run to tomorrow. I'm sort of nervous for/looking forward to it at the same time. :confused3
Oh, should have mentioned my name sooner, it is Heather, I forget sometimes that my login name is different on this website.
 I actually looked back through the thread to see if you did because I felt bad for not remembering!
Looking back I think we made a mistake doing Remy on Castaway Cay day...we were just soooo hot after a day at the beach, it was hard to enjoy the meal. I think they only have brunch there on the longer cruises so it's probably something not a lot of people have experienced!

I can't WAIT to have Palo brunch again! :lovestruc
The 5k looks miserable. Seeing your trip report has evaporated any remaining guilt I had about not doing it and instead laid on the beach with my breakfast Mai Tai (yes- fruit juice= breakfast food on a cruise!)
It...really was miserable. I hate to turn people off to it if they REALLY want to try it, but that's just my opinion. :confused3

Mmmm...breakfast Mai Tai. That sounds heavenly.
I think that's a good way to look at it! She's really training for it too - my mom said she ran 3 miles with one of my uncles, so she'll be ready come October!

Ninja Turtles 5K sounds fun and hilarious! Sounds like your 8-year-old is a natural, very cool!! :thumbsup2
Ahhh, congrats on getting into Wine & Dine!! :yay: I read that in the W&D thread, that's awesome. Will this be your first time running it??

I think you'll be fine with doing Avengers right after. I mean, you'll clearly be trained for it, ya know? The travel may be tiring/dehydrating but what a fun couple of weeks for you!
And crud, I haven't even thought about marathon dining reservations. What would you recommend for the best post marathon meal? Are you more for getting the food in you ASAP or do you shower and nap and then have the big celebratory meal?
I'm definitely more for getting food ASAP! We have lunch reservations for Beaches & Cream after the marathon just because it's close. I think you're really supposed to aim for a good mix of proteins/carbohydrates for recovery though. :confused3 If I wait too long to eat I start to feel sick, so I pay less attention to the protein/carb mix and more to stuffing my face ASAP, so I may not be the best person to ask about that. ;)
Woohoo Dumbo! :yay: I'm a little jealous of you, not gonna lie. I feel your pain, long runs over the summer are ROUGH. I haven't had any LONG long runs yet and I still have been wiped afterward.

I have heard that Disneyland races are a lot easier than the WDW ones, so yeah, definitely looking forward to that. WALKING to the corrals?? That's crazy talk! :rotfl: If VGC doesnt' work out I could see us going to one of the other two hotels, for sure.
It just seems like as little effort as possible was put into changing the pattern from the WDW marathon one. The good news is I won't be tempted to buy it.
Isn't it weird that the dates aren't out?! That's what makes me think they're possibly moving it...:confused3

The skirt is so fab! I am hoping they'll put it online as soon as it's available...fingers crossed!

Lazy is a great way to describe the DLH Dooney - I couldn't believe it's was just a re-do of the WDW Dooney pattern! OMG I didn't even notice it says "Disneyland Marathon"...that is just lame. :rolleyes2 I agree with you, glad the temptation hasn't been there lately!
Yay for finally getting everything settled with the flights!
:cool1:
I am doing C2C this year (3 more weeks!!). I figured 2014 would be my only chance to do it, not predicting I would end up signing up for Dopey in 2015!
Yay, so exciting!! That's how I feel about C2C 2015, this may be my only shot! Crazy how runDisney just lures you right back in though...
I wonder if they want to change the dates of the race next year because Labor Day is so late? If no one posts it sooner, I will post whatever info I see at the expo.
That would be awesome, thanks! I'm curious to see what happens...who knows, I could be totally wrong and maybe they aren't changing the dates at all. Just so weird that they weren't published. :confused3

 I am always playing catch up. I am sorry I am so far behind.

71.31 miles completed in July 2014

You got a good number of miles completed in July! Way to go!!! :thumbsup2

Your puppy is just so darn sweet!

I was starting to worry about the dog (who was still looking at me like I'd lost it)...he's pretty anxious and we don't normally leave him alone in the house when he's not in his crate, so I wasn't sure how he would handle this. Eventually I headed across the street to a neighbor's house and asked to use her phone. She actually didn't recognize me at first (weird since I see her a few times per week) and then went on to lecture me about how I should leave a key with someone in the neighborhood. Clearly not with you, lady, since you apparently don't know who I am!

OMG, this situation has me stressed reading it... but getting to this point I had to :rotfl: Yeah, if she doesn't know you then probably not gonna leave the key with her. I am glad your mom had a key and could come and save you. :goodvibes

Glad that you were able to figure out why you were feeling bothered by Will's trips.

In other news, at the suggestion of Ann/annmarieda I created a Facebook account and (thanks to Ann's help) managed to join a SparkleSkirts group. I have a skirt I have barely worn (less than 5 times...really I think 2-3 times) and apparently the resale market for SparkleSkirts is HOT HOT HOT...especially since my skirt, the DoloTech, is a retired pattern. Who knew?!

I seem to be quite the enabler lately with various things. ;) I am glad you were able to join the group. Sounds like the other group you joined might be a tad easier to not only buy but sell. I am so wanting a mouse in the mix... but without an ISO file it will be hard to see someone sell one.

I too have been starting to watch airfare for January. SW has released theirs now... and they are a top my list. Yay for getting yours! I can see why you pounced. For my november trip... I have to still get the flight down and while I want to use SW because of points and such... their schedule is really wonky. I am glad you figured out Saturday worked better for Will. I think it makes sense! :thumbsup2

Definitely sounds like your shoes hit the end of their life. Hope the new ones have worked better.

The POT link has me  too. I hate seeing the 7 hr thing. When I choose to reenter my time for (:scratchin not sure what race it was) it recalculated my estimated finish and gave me a new one. :confused3 So while I have checked to see if i am in the system...when I have seen that screen you posted I have been clicking cancel.

I am kinda sad that you had to cancel your breakfast at Captains Grille. Reason is that is exactly where we are eating post race.

Yay for deciding to do the DLH next year! I know officially we have to wait to know the dates, but I am with you and think it will span labor day again. Sadly, points at GCV are not only expensive but the studios go very very quickly. I hope you can manage to get a room there though! maybe I can live vicariously that way. ;) Honestly, I just wish the DLR properties were a bit more reasonably priced. I have never stayed on property there. I can get a room for $100 to $200 a night and actually be closer to the park gates...so I always opt to do that. If room rates were just a tad less I would totally go for it.

The new sparkle skirt... yes!!! I must have that too. I am really hoping to get it at the DLH expo.

I am always playing catch up. I am sorry I am so far behind.
No worries, it happens to all of us from time to time!
You got a good number of miles completed in July! Way to go!!!
Thanks! I'm hoping to ramp it up a bit over the next few months, especially as it starts to (hopefully) cool off!!
Your puppy is just so darn sweet!
Thanks! :lovestruc I think so too!
OMG, this situation has me stressed reading it... but getting to this point I had to :rotfl: Yeah, if she doesn't know you then probably not gonna leave the key with her. I am glad your mom had a key and could come and save you.
I am to the point where I can laugh about it now. :upsidedow If my mom hadn't been able to come save me I probably wouldn't have found it quite so funny though...and no, we haven't left a key with that neighbor. ;)
Glad that you were able to figure out why you were feeling bothered by Will's trips.
Ugh, what a baby. :sad2:
I seem to be quite the enabler lately with various things.
YUP! :thumbsup2
I am glad you were able to join the group. Sounds like the other group you joined might be a tad easier to not only buy but sell. I am so wanting a mouse in the mix... but without an ISO file it will be hard to see someone sell one.
That ISO note was seriously so awesome! It happened so quickly, I couldn't believe it!

I have my eye on Mouse in the Mix too...that one is super cute, love the color scheme.
I wish SW had worked out for us. I really like them a lot, I have a credit to use, and I especially like that they don't charge baggage fees. But I have the same problem you did - the schedule just didn't work for us this time. I think the Saturday flight is a good call too! Hopefully it'll make for a more relaxed weekend for Will. :goodvibes
Definitely sounds like your shoes hit the end of their life. Hope the new ones have worked better.
They totally did. I probably should have thrown them out a few days sooner than I did. :sad2: It's always so tempting to just get as much life out of them as possible. Luckily the new shoes are working out great! :thumbsup2
Yeah, the POT definitely isn't perfect year. :confused3 If it had added like 15 minutes or something I would have made a stink about it, but I'm going to leave it alone for now. Mostly I'm glad they'd taking such a proactive role in trying to get the corral assignments better.
I am kinda sad that you had to cancel your breakfast at Captains Grille. Reason is that is exactly where we are eating post race.
Yeah, I always like trying new places. :sad2: I'm sure we'll get there someday!
Yay for deciding to do the DLH next year! I know officially we have to wait to know the dates, but I am with you and think it will span labor day again.
I think so too, I just have this *feeling* that there is some reason they haven't published the dates yet. I could be totally wrong. I guess we'll see!
Sadly, points at GCV are not only expensive but the studios go very very quickly. I hope you can manage to get a room there though! maybe I can live vicariously that way.
I have heard exactly that! That's why I wanted to try to be on the ball right at the 11-month mark. :confused3
Honestly, I just wish the DLR properties were a bit more reasonably priced. I have never stayed on property there. I can get a room for $100 to $200 a night and actually be closer to the park gates...so I always opt to do that. If room rates were just a tad less I would totally go for it.
If it was just me, I probably wouldn't fork out the cash to stay on-property...splitting it 2-3 ways makes it much more doable though. If VGC doesn't work out I could see us going to DLH or PP for sure.
The new sparkle skirt... yes!!! I must have that too. I am really hoping to get it at the DLH expo.
Ahhhh I hope you get one! Or maybe it'll pop up online soon...eek! :goodvibes

Week 5 of Half Marathon Training
Monday, August 4, 2014 - Sunday, August 10, 2014

23 miles completed
92.06 miles completed in half marathon training so far
451.76 miles completed in 2014 so far

Monday, August 4: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Push 1) + Ab Burner

By the end of last week I felt like a total wreck and thought I was getting sick. As a result I slept a TON over the weekend and felt much better. I really need to do better with sleep during the week. Last night I got almost 7 hours, so I'd like to get that more to a solid 7.5-8 hours and see how that feels. We'll see!

Back to the Push circuit in CLX. I liked this workout - heavy weights at 6-8 reps. Felt good! Then I followed that up with some abs.

I also booked my flights for Marathon Weekend! I still want to wait on Will's though...frustrating! I will be watching United Airline's webpage like a hawk.

I don't have many pictures this week, so here's a random one!
WDWHolidayEdit-174.jpg

Tuesday, August 5: Run #1 (4.5 miles on the treadmill) + Extreme Abs

First run in my new shoes today (the blue ones)!
image.jpeg

Lately I have been doing run 7 minutes/walk 1 minute intervals on the treadmill, but today I switched to 4:1 intervals so I could break in the shoes a bit. By the end of the second mile they felt pretty good - zero shin pain, unlike Saturday. Total time for the run was 50:09 (11:08ish/mile).

Dopey Challenge Flight Price Update: I checked the flights I’m interested in for Will again this morning…

- The United flight home is still sitting at $457 (??!). So nothing happening with that one.
- The #1 pick to Orlando - the US Airways flight that would land at 9:38PM on Friday - has dropped from $193 to $171. I think if I see it get to $150 or lower I'll grab it. I think the other two options I mentioned earlier would just be miserable for him, so I’m probably going to stop watching those.

I also took rpcvpanama's suggestion and looked at Saturday morning flights for Will, since a RT ticket on United is still $297 right now - the earliest one is the same time I am flying in on Wednesday (direct flight landing in Orlando at about 11AM). When I brought this up to Will he actually seemed pretty interested - those Fridays of working all day and then flying right to Orlando are pretty draining for him (and thus are an incredible source of guilt for me), so if he took this Saturday morning flight he’d be able to come home on Friday, relax and then catch his flight to Disney around 8:30 AM. With DME he'd probably be on property by noon. I'm curious to see what he ends up deciding.

Wednesday, August 6: Run #2 (40-minute tempo run...3.5 miles completed) + Extreme Abs

Not a bad run this morning. I walked for the first 3 minutes, and then put the treadmill speed up to 5.0 MPH (12:00 min/mile pace). From there I slowly increased the speed until I was at my 10K pace (6.6 MPH, 9:09/mile pace I think), which happened about ⅔ of the way through the run (27 minutes in). I held that speed for 2 minutes and then slowly decreased my speed until I was back to walking for the last 3-4 minutes. This put my at 3.5 miles for the 40-minute tempo run.

Hal Higdon says this is supposed to help me run faster for longer...oooookay! You're the boss, Hal! :thumbsup2

After lifting on Monday my back felt pretty sore, and I'm wondering if that has to do with lifting heavy after an almost 2-week period with no core work. Bad, bad Shannon! So I'm gonig to make an effort to hit the abs stuff hard again. I did Extreme Abs last night in between coming home from work and making dinner, and again this morning after the run. That workout is so hard, especially after not having done it for awhile! There's a 3-5 minute-long section that is all planks near the end...that part about kills me.

Sleep update - I've consistently been in bed around 10:30 this week, giving me about 7 hours of sleep per night. :cool1: It's still not where I want to be, but over the past few months I've been in bed more like 10:45 or 11, so this is a little bit of an improvement. And I do think it is helping - it's Wednesday and I don't feel like a complete disaster yet. Even if I don't get into the habit of having perfectly early bedtimes over the next few weeks, it MUST change next month when Dopey training starts. ::yes:: I'm going to need all the sleep I can get with the increase in mileage.

In other news, we booked Will's flights for January last night! I’m soooo relieved to have that done! So now everything is planned for Marathon Weekend...just gotta train for it!

Thursday, August 7: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Push 2) + Ab Burner

**WW UPDATE**

Sometimes I can sort of *feel* when I had a good week, weight loss-wise. This week was one of those weeks. I woke up and got out of bed really quickly (in bed at 10:20PM last night! Hooray!) and was sort of excited to weigh in. :hyper: That hasn't happened in awhile.

Turns out my hunch was right - I did have a good week and lost 1 pound! So I am 0.6 pounds away from my pre-cruise weight at this point. :) I have sort of a challenging weekend coming up...we're eating out twice (once with my cousin and her husband - which has been planned since July 4th - and once because we have a gift certificate that is about to expire). But I also have a high-mileage week on my schedule, so if I keep up with that and don't go crazy at this meals hopefully I will be okay.

Between the good weigh-in and my earlier bedtimes, I feel REALLY good today. :) I had a great workout this morning - the Push 2 circuit has a lot of shoulder stuff, along with legs...I felt pretty good throughout. I followed it up with ab burner - after zero core work for almost 2 weeks, 4 days in a row may have been a little much. I didn't pull anything or injure myself, but I'm feeling it now!

Hi Walt!

Friday, August 8: Run #3 (5 miles at half marathon goal race pace...9:45 - 9:55/mile) + warm yoga flow

Well, this goal race pace run was better than last week's, but still not quite where I want it to be.

Splits:
Mile 1: 9:31
Mile 2: 9:23
Mile 3: 9:45
Mile 4: 9:43
Mile 5: 9:52

Total time: 48:16
Overall average pace: 9:39/mile

Super happy that all of the splits were under 10:00/mile - I never thought I'd get to that point! I also didn't take any walk breaks and felt pretty good for almost the entire run. But I'm still starting a little too fast (miles 1 & 2) and fading a bit at the end. So I'll continue to work on that.

I came back home, took a quick shower, put on clean clothes...and then…

I went. To yoga.

Finally!

This class is called "Warm Yoga Flow For All Levels"..."warm" means that the studio was heated to 85 degrees (!), and "All Levels" means yogis are encouraged to do modifications as necessary. ::yes:: This was my first yoga class since January 31...yikes! I was happy to find that I was able to keep up decently well though, which I have to credit to strength training. It was weird though - I felt good on the leg stuff, but my arms felt week during certain parts of the workout. Hmm. And I definitely, definitely need to work on the flexibility. No surprise there. I hope I can keep it up at least once per week!

Saturday, August 9: Rest Day

Lots of errands to run today at a few places that closed at noon, so it made more sense to push my run back to tomorrow.

I did get some fun mail though! We’ve been trying to seriously declutter, and as part of that I sold some stuff on eBay this week. So I put that cash toward…

Some new Raw Threads shirts (all equilibrium-style tanks):

...and a new SparkleSkirt! I know I said the Haunted Mansion one would be my next skirt, but I saw the Peacock Sapphire and couldn't resist. It's sooooo pretty!

I showed it to Will and he goes, "that skirt is CRAZY!" :rotfl:

Sunday, August 10: Run #4 (10-mile loop)
73 degrees and sunny, 73% humidity

Before I left for this run I tinkered with setting up the Live Tracking featuer on my Garmin 220. Basically it uses BlueTooth to connect to my phone (which I only take with me on longer runs) which then live-streams my run to anyone that I specify. I had the app send a link to Will and he said it seemed to work well and was pretty cool! It seems like a good safety feature for long runs and something I think will be helpful when he's trying to spectate the marathon in January. It also synced the run right to my Garmin account through my phone as I was walking home, so that was cool - I didn't have to manually load it onto the computer.

Anyway...not a bad run today! Woohoo! :)

I mean, it wasn't perfect. This is the longest distance I’ve run since the tail-end of my 10-miler training in the spring, and I could definitely feel that in my legs. My joints and shins felt really good, but my muscles were definitely working!

I stuck with running 5 minutes/walking 1 minute. At the 2- and 6-mile marks I had 4 strawberry Gu Chomps and drank maybe 40 ounces of water on the run (I carried my hand bottle and re-filled it once). The weather didn't really bother me too much but I was drenched in sweat by the end. I wore my new Rapunzel Raw Threads tank and it was a totally different shade of grey by the time I was done...eeeuuuuuuw.

Total time for the run was 1:48:13, 10:49/mile pace

Very pleased with this run overall. My goal race pace for next month's half marathon is 9:45 - 9:55/mile, and per the training plan my long runs should be 60-90 seconds slower than that. So I am right where I need to be. :)

Yeah, I always like trying new places. :sad2: I'm sure we'll get there someday!

Well, if you want to have a post race breakfast with some strangers. You are welcome to join my dh, dd, dn and I. :goodvibes
Ahhhh I hope you get one! Or maybe it'll pop up online soon...eek! :goodvibes

Something tells me it will be a hard item to get.

We'll see!

I feel it is often a challenge to get enough sleep. Life is so hectic and shaving off sleep times seams to be a habit many people use as a strategy to just get though it all.

Looking good!!!

I came back home, took a quick shower, put on clean clothes...and then…

I went. To yoga.

Finally!

:cool1::cool1:

I did get some fun mail though! We’ve been trying to seriously declutter, and as part of that I sold some stuff on eBay this week. So I put that cash toward…

Some new Raw Threads shirts (all equilibrium-style tanks):
photo.JPG

Thos are great RT shirts.

...and a new SparkleSkirt! I know I said the Haunted Mansion one would be my next skirt, but I saw the Peacock Sapphire and couldn't resist. It's sooooo pretty!

:cool1: I am not a huge fan of the peacocks, but this one is super pretty!!!
I can see why you couldn't resist.

BTW - did you see that ss is going to have a big "clearance" event?

Sounds like a good run. :thumbsup2 My goal is about what yours is and I have had some similar paced long runs. Maybe I too am right where I need to be. Some how though, I worry I won't be able to go faster come race day.

Well, if you want to have a post race breakfast with some strangers. You are welcome to join my dh, dd, dn and I.
Aww, thanks so much! :goodvibes I will definitely keep that in mind!
Something tells me it will be a hard item to get.
I totally agree. It got quite the reaction on Facebook (though I was surprised to read that some people didn't like it :confused3). Those skirts will sell like hotcakes.

It would be REALLY cool if they kept coming up with attraction-specific skirts.
I feel it is often a challenge to get enough sleep. Life is so hectic and shaving off sleep times seams to be a habit many people use as a strategy to just get though it all.
::yes:: It sounds so easy to do, but it's really not! I just feel like I get a second wind around 9:30 or so, which is ultimately when I should be getting ready for bed. :confused3
Looking good!!!
Thanks! :yay:
Thos are great RT shirts.
:goodvibes I've been eyeing the Sea Witch one for awhile. The Rapunzel one is so adorable too.

RT is so tricky, with their "spend $100 and get free shipping"...that's what made me definitively pull the trigger on the Minnie shirt. :rolleyes2
I am not a huge fan of the peacocks, but this one is super pretty!!!
I can see why you couldn't resist.
I'm hoping it'll be a very versatile skirt with all of the colors. Awhile back I almost bought the Peacock Earth, but I didn't think it would go with as many shirts. I think the colors are soooo pretty though:
PcockEarth_1024x1024.jpg

We'll see. Maybe I'm a peacock gal, maybe I'm not! There are a few ladies on the Facebook groups that seemingly own the peacock skirts in every color!!
BTW - did you see that ss is going to have a big "clearance" event?
YES. :faint: I am super curious to see what their definition of "clearance" is, because looking at their webpage their "sale" SparkleTechs still start at $50ish. Also curious to see what patterns are available. If Mouse in the Mix or Pink MiniTech are reasonably priced I think I'd have a hard time passing those ones up. :confused3 Goodbye money!
Sounds like a good run.
It was. I think I really needed the confidence booster - I was pretty down in the dumps about not finishing my 9-miler last week, so this one was a boost, for sure.
My goal is about what yours is and I have had some similar paced long runs. Maybe I too am right where I need to be. Some how though, I worry I won't be able to go faster come race day.
I am starting to have those thoughts too. :worried: I hope we can both do it!!! :cheer2:

I really need to do better with sleep during the week. Last night I got almost 7 hours, so I'd like to get that more to a solid 7.5-8 hours and see how that feels. We'll see!

This is something we've been trying to focus on as well. I read an article in a recent Runner's World that stressed the importance of sleep and that too many runners don't treat this as part of a good training regimen. But, man, it can be tough to get everything done that needs to be done, get in your workouts AND get enough sleep.

First run in my new shoes today (the blue ones)!

Yay for new shoes and even better that you had no shin pain! :thumbsup2

Great job on staying focused and good results. Weight loss is sooooo hard!

I went. To yoga.

:cool1: Way to go!! I'm still just talking about doing yoga. ;)

I love the new RT shirts and the peacock skirt. I think it's so pretty! Not crazy at all, Will!!

I've been stalking the website lately looking for new patterns. Did they give any kind of estimated date for when the Haunted pattern would be out? I really want that skirt. I might even be obsessing a little.

I was also thinking of selling my Pink MiniTech skirt. It's the regular cut and since I've switched more to the slim cut, I probably won't wear it again. I wore it twice. Once on a 20-mile training run and then during my first marathon. I'm not sure what size you wear. Mine is a medium. Anyway, if you've got some interest send me a PM (I'll give you a special Disser discount :) ). I was thinking of joining one of those online groups to sell it, but if it would work for you, I'd be happy for you to have it.

Agreed! In addition to getting all that stuff done I want some quality time with the husband/dog and time in the evening to just sit and do some mindless stuff. And I don't want to give that up. :confused3
Yay for new shoes and even better that you had no shin pain!
:thumbsup2 The shoes look snazzy too, so that's a bonus! Have you started using your Goofy-like shoes yet?
Great job on staying focused and good results. Weight loss is sooooo hard!
It really is. On weeks when I'm *on* it seems easy. But then I feel like if I relax just a bit it starts to creep back. :headache:
Way to go!! I'm still just talking about doing yoga.
I'm hoping to keep it up once a week! I'm signed up for a class tomorrow...I hope I actually go to it!!
I love the new RT shirts and the peacock skirt. I think it's so pretty! Not crazy at all, Will!!
Those boys just don't get it. :p Or maybe my boy doesn't get it. But at least he doesn't give me a hard time about buying this stuff!
Awesome training run!! Sounds like you are right on track. Great job!!!
Thanks! :goodvibes

I know they said they wanted it at the Disneyland Half expo and that it *might* be on the website before then.

...so I have no idea. :upsidedow

The more I think about it, the more I think I should go for a different pattern since I have the red MiniTech and they are so similar. But thank you so much for offering! :) I'm sure you will easily sell it.

Aww, thanks so much! :goodvibes I will definitely keep that in mind!

It is a serious offer... but I do totally get if you have other things to do. Just keep it in mind and if you should want to just let me know. :goodvibes

::yes:: It sounds so easy to do, but it's really not! I just feel like I get a second wind around 9:30 or so, which is ultimately when I should be getting ready for bed. :confused3

This is totally me too! I am dragging around 3 to 5 pm and think that I will have to turn in early and then BAM! come 9 to 10pm I am UP!

RT is so tricky, with their "spend $100 and get free shipping"...that's what made me definitively pull the trigger on the Minnie shirt. :rolleyes2

Shipping really can add up so it makes sense to try and ship more things all at once.

We'll see. Maybe I'm a peacock gal, maybe I'm not! There are a few ladies on the Facebook groups that seemingly own the peacock skirts in every color!!

They are pretty. I am just not sure that they don't seem to fancy for me to run in. Course... now that you have posted the two... I admit I am thinking they look much better than I once thought.

I am itching to buy another skirt but I am holding off until I see what kind of sale emerges. I did get the slim cut saucy wench for just $50 off their clearance. $50 isn't great...but it is way better than $70 or even $60 for that matter.

I am starting to have those thoughts too. :worried: I hope we can both do it!!! :cheer2:

Agreed! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

YUP! It's sort of frustrating! :confused3
Shipping really can add up so it makes sense to try and ship more things all at once.
Yeah, shipping costs are ridiculous sometimes. I always google around for a discount code and never find any for RT or SS.
They are pretty. I am just not sure that they don't seem to fancy for me to run in. Course... now that you have posted the two... I admit I am thinking they look much better than I once thought.
Beyond eyeing the Peacock Earth for awhile, I never thought I'd get one until my friend sent me a picture of herself wearing one. I think they look different *on* someone than they do on the website, if that makes sense.

It's addicting, buying those skirts! Especially reading about how many people buy in those Facebook groups.

What did you think of the sale? I was a little disappointed in it! I think I was expecting better prices from a "liquidation." I guess what they had was better than nothing though.

The Saucy Wench one is an example of one I never thought I'd like from the website pictures, but I like it more after seeing it *on* someone (i.e. YOU! in your PTR :)).
We can do it!!!!! :cool1:

Week 6 of Half Marathon Training
Monday, August 11, 2014 - Sunday, August 17, 2014

22.05 miles completed
114.11 miles completed in half marathon training so far
473.81 miles completed in 2014 so far

Monday, August 11: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Push 3) + Ab Burner

Not the best night of sleep last night - I had a baaaaad dream that woke me up at about 3AM and I couldn't really get back to sleep after that. I hate when that happens! If I could take a pill that would give me dreamless sleep every night, I would totally do it. I have bad nightmares every so often.

ANYWAY...good workout this morning. Push 3 has some heavy leg stuff! I had two 25s at one point and next time I do this workout I think I'll bump it to two 30s. Yikes!

After my long run yesterday I was happy with how quickly I seemed to recover (thanks to sitting in a bathtub full of cooolllld water for 10 minutes), but one nagging issue I had was that my hips were feeling sore. Well, that soreness was GONE today! That’s a relief.

Not a lot of pictures this week, so I'm scattering in some random Disney ones...

Tuesday, August 12: Run #1 (3 miles on the treadmill) + extreme abs

Last week I did a 4.5-mile run on the treadmill - it felt pretty good both physically and mentally (as in, I wasn't bored to tears from staying on the treadmill for so long). This was a big confidence booster for me because I have a few 5-mile treadmill runs on my schedule for the rest of half marathon training, as well as for a LOT of my upcoming Dopey training.

So today I had a 5-mile treadmill run on my schedule. I got to work and...it just was NOT happening today. :( As soon as I stepped onto the treadmill I just was not having it. Arg! I had a 3-miler scheduled for later in the week, so I decided to flip the two and do the 3-miler today, along with some ab work, and then move the 5-miler to Friday. Total time for the run was 33:11, 11:04ish/mile pace (using run 4 minutes/walk 1 minute intervals). Extreme abs was EXTREME-ly challenging, as usual.

I haven't been doing as good a job getting to bed earlier as I did last week, so I'm going to try to do better with that. Tomorrow is my speedwork run and I really don't want to push that back, so I'll need the extra sleep in preparation!

Wednesday, August 13: Run #2 (9x400 @ 5K pace…4.75 miles completed)

TOUGH time getting out of bed today. I did a wee bit better with getting to sleep last night but the week is starting to catch up with me. I had a splitting headache on my way into work this morning and just felt pretty wiped. We've had dark, rainy weather this week too, so that doesn't help.

But man, despite that, pretty great run today! Except for the last 3 intervals (which were okay, just started to feel challenging) I felt really good throughout this run. It helped to wake me up, give me some energy, and even dulled my headache a bit. Overall I went 4.75 miles and it took about 55 minutes.

Only one more speedwork run this year! I think I'll kind of miss them...always nice to have a little variety to break up the running week. And I really do think that the speedwork has helped my pace get a little better this year. :)

Thursday, August 14: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Push 1) + ab burner

**WW UPDATE**

Last week I said there are some weeks where I can just *feel* that I lost weight. This week was not one of those weeks. I just haven't been really keeping track of things very well, and I've definitely been a little hungrier than normal...maybe because I'm increasing my mileage a bit more? So I've been having more snacks than normal. It wasn't too bad though - I was up only 0.2 pounds. Hopefully I can do a little better this week - be more consistent about writing stuff down and look into better snacks. Our grocery store was sampling these AMAZING grapes this week - crunchy, sweet and juicy - and I may be addicted to them, so maybe those need to become my new go-to snack instead of, say, Cheetos or Goldfish. :rolleyes2

This morning I was thinking about how the weight loss has definitely been slooowwww for me. Really the first two weeks were the big jumps (2.6- and 2.2-pound losses), and since then I would definitely say I have have stalled. It's a little frustrating, but then again, I don't feel like I want to change my habits TOO too much. That's what I did when I was first losing weight for my wedding in 2009 (cut out carbs, desserts...basically anything that tastes good) and I put half of it back on immediately after the wedding. I'm thinking I need to keep doing what I'm doing, but make little changes here and there (see above - grapes instead of Cheetos) and just keep better track of what I'm doing. Hopefully that'll help me to see results.

ANYWAY...another morning with Chalene! Back to the Push 1 workout this morning - biceps, triceps and legs. Great workout! I also did some abs stuff afterward.

ALSO...I sold that Raw Threads Elsa tank top that I bought a few weeks back, the one that I ran in once (and thus could not return) and kept having to yank up. :yay: Someone on the Raw Threads Resale group on Facebook offered me $20...I was asking $25, but I took it. I got to the gym early this morning and was able to get to the post office by work early enough to ship it out. After shipping I really only made $15 on the shirt, but at least I got some of my money back. My other RT shirt I am trying to sell has had zero interest so I may need to look for a different way to unload it, or end up keeping it. :(

Friday, August 15: Run #3 (4-mile out-and-back) + hot yoga flow
Weather: 64 degrees and sunny, 64% hummidity

Well...I have a problem.

Today I ran in my new PeacockSapphire SparkleSkirt...and I'm obsessed with it.

photo-1.JPG

It actually got me thinking about the other two solid-colored skirts I own (a hot pink one and a purple one) and how they don't get much use because they just don't go with many tops. I have worn each skirt maybe 5 times, and they get passed over a lot. I feel like this newest skirt is way more versatile.

After thinking about it a bit, I looked on the SparkleSkirts website and found the pink and purple versions of the Peacock skirts, and ordered them. They both have more colors (the purple has purple and blue in it, and the pink has pink, lavender, magenta and orange) so hopefully they will get more wear than my solid-color skirts. If I like the peacock ones as much as I think I will, I'm going to sell the solid-colored once on Facebook. It's amazing how well these SparkleSkirts hold their value. :confused3

On another note, the SparkleSkirts website had a sale today that they had been hyping for awhile, and personally I found it a little disappointing. It was billed as a "liquidation" sale, but it looked like skirts were only discounted $5-$10...even the damaged ones! I guess they have figured out people have no problem paying full price...or even close to full price for used skirts.

Anyway…

GREAT run today! Not a goal pace run this time...it felt really good.

Splits:
Mile 1: 9:43
Mile 2: 9:51
Mile 3: 10:19 (1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile)
Mile 4: 9:47
Mile 5: 10:15 (1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile)

Total time: 49:56, 9:59/mile pace

After the run I had to haul my booty over to the dentist for a filling...so needless to say, that sucked. Because of this appointment I couldn't go to the yoga class I liked so much last week, so I signed up for a later class. Two weeks in a row of yoga! Gold star for me.

This class was "hot" yoga as opposed to last week's "warm" yoga, meaning that the studio was heated to 99 degrees. Woo! I liked this class, but it was more challenging than last week's so I didn’t like it QUITE as much. ;) I did feel great when I was done though. And BONUS - there was a sale on apparel so I grabbed a pair of Lululemon Run Inspire II Crops for 50% off.

Screen%2BShot%2B2014-08-17%2Bat%2B6.13.05%2BPM.png

Never tried these for running before and I feel a little shady buying Lululemon stuff after some of their recent bad publicity...but 50% off is 50% off. I was planning on getting a new pair of crops anyway since my Nikes are sort of bunchy - I guess that what happens when I gain weight/lose weight/grain weight/lose weight. My pants stretch out. :rolleyes2 But hey, those Nike crops did last me 6 years. That's pretty good. Originally I'd been thinking of trying the SparkleSkirts crops but with this sale, the Lululemon crops are about $20-$30 cheaper. SS gets enough of my money!

Last shopping update - the Minnie-inspired SweatyBand I have been eyeing for Marathon Weekend was on sale for $9, so I grabbed it. Unfortunately, the shipping was a ridiculous $5. For a freaking headband?! Ugh.

(I got the one on the left.)

Saturday, August 16: Run #4 (15K run)
Weather: 70 degrees and sunny, 49% humidity

Race day is getting closer and closer!

As the plan is written, this 15K run was supposed to be a 15K race...but I was too lazy to look for 15K races in our area. I bet they are pretty rare...and I can’t say I really wanted to race much anyway this weekend. So a 15K long run it is!

I wore my new Lululemon crops today and I LOVE them. They felt soooooo good. The only bad thing about them is the lack of pockets. I think I am really spoiled by the SparkleSkirts...they have 3 big pockets, where the crops (and most other running bottoms) have one small zipper pocket above the butt and two small open pockets on the waistband (which I personally think are pointless). But overall they felt so good that I came home and searched the sale section of Lululemon's website for more pairs - weirdly enough they aren't on sale online even though they were at the yoga studio. I think I'll keep checking the website to see if they get marked down, though...I wouldn't mind having another pair.

This run was mostly fantastic. I felt great the entire time! I set my watch to run 6 minutes/walk 1 minute intervals and had Gu chomps at the 3- and 6-mile mark...drinking water throughout. Total time for the run was 1:38:58, 10:38/mile pace. Probably the best I have felt on a long run in awhile.

The only bad thing is that I wore one of my new RawThreads tanks for this run...the pink Minnie one. And I think I cannot wear these tanks for long runs anymore, because with about 1.5 miles to go I could start to feel chafing under my arms! Not quite in my armpits, but close. Not fun. It buuuurrrrned. I actually ended up doing the rest of the run with my arms in a sort of chicken wing-like position - elbows pointed out. I caught a glimpse of my reflection in a window while doing this and it looked about as cool as it sounds. :upsidedow I actually started to feel the chafing during my 10-miler last weekend as well (wearing the Rapunzel tank) and I have never had that happen before.

So sadly enough, I definitely think I cannot wear these kinds of tops for really anything longer than a 10K. Boo! At least I know now - I most likely will not buy any more of them, and I definitely won't wear them for a half or full marathon. Oh well.

Also! I think I mentioned awhile back that we're trying to do some serious de-cluttering and have been selling stuff on eBay. We're having some really good success - about to transfer maybe $400 to our bank account from PayPal (this is how I'm justifying the new running clothes I have been buying lately ;)).

One of the things I sold was my pair of 2013 runDisney Minnie shoes I bought at the Wine & Dine expo. They were sort of an impulse buy - they were THERE, so I just grabbed them. I thought I'd use them to do errands and stuff (never to run - Brooks Adrenalines work for me, so that's what I'll stay with). Then 2 things happened - 1. Someone told me they looked like Ronald McDonald shoes, and I just couldn't unsee that  and 2. Even bigger of an issue, those shoes HURT my feet. Like, I wore them maybe 5 times when grocery shopping and thought I hurt myself.

I've seen the crazy price-gouging when it comes to these shoes (selling them for $400 and whatnot) and didn't want to do that. I started the bidding at $25...had tons of watchers...they sold for $47. :furious: And they are in great condition. I am not a happy camper!

Lesson learned, no more runDisney shoes for me!

Sunday, August 17: Rest Day

Lots of errands today. But it started off with amazing, freshly baked doughnuts form a local bakery:

And then grocery shopping, yardwork, etc...typical Sunday stuff. Will goes back to school tomorrow already! Where is this year going?!

Great work keeping up the training this week!

Sorry the raw threads aren't working out well for you & not really getting much of the money back online. At least the house is getting decluttered!

Its funny that you like the peacock skirt - that would be too bright for me but I would probably wear a purple one easily but I really just like running in capris.

I had to chuckle a little about your chicken wing, because I totally know what you mean! Same thing happened to me about halfway through my last half marathon! It burned so bad! I tried all sorts of arm positions to get some relief, including the chicken wing. Lol! Luckily there was an aid station a few miles down the road that had some Vaseline. That saved me! ;)

Bummer that your shoes didn't sell for more! I picked up the pink NB Minnies this year at Tink, but I never run in them either (I'm an Adrenaline girl too). I love wearing them to the gym though! I don't plan on buying any more. They're cute and fun, but it was a one-and-done thing for me.

Thanks! It was definitely a good week for me. The super-mild weather is helping a lot. :)

Me too! I'm so sad about the Raw Threads stuff. I'm glad I realized this now before buying more of it. :(

The decluttering is definitely a good thing - it really NEEDED to happen. Our house looks so much better. :goodvibes

I saw this to Ann/annmarieda in a comment, but those skirts didn't really appeal to me until I saw a picture of a "real" person wearing one - not the website model. Somehow it just looked a lot different (better) to me, if that makes any sense. :confused3

I hear you about running in capris. They are really comfortable - I'm loving my new pair a lot.

Oh, chuckle away - I know I looked like an idiot! ;)

Ahhhh, I'm sorry that it happened to you too! And you had to go further with it than I did. :( So glad you were able to get some Vaseline. Do you know why it happened?

I think I might try one more long run in one of those tops, but put some BodyGlide under my arms this time. Maybe they will help...if not, I can definitively say that those shirts are out of the question for longer runs. :confused3

Yeah, I was really surprised! I was watching the last minute of the auction counting down and I thought people were going to jump in at the last minute and bid since I had 25 watchers or something - nope! The person who won the auction got a heckuva deal, that's for sure. I'm still a little mad about it, but I mailed the shoes out this morning and mostly I'm just glad they are gone. Major buyer's remorse there. :sad2: I can't blame you for picking up the pink pair, they are pretty adorable. I like the look of those ones much better than the ones I had.

LOVE the Adrenalines. They are definitely the shoes for me! :goodvibes

Did your bid by any chance end on Saturday evening? I ask because my friend was trying to win something and had been waiting until the last minute to put in his final bid. He put in a max of like $140 or something and the site kept telling him he was being outbid, so he upped it a little until time ran out. It turned out the item only sold for $70! So there was some kind of glitch that wasn't accepting his higher bids. I don't really understand it, but it made me wonder if something similar happened to your watchers. :confused3
