In the rain, with children

I want to be prepared. So far, the extended forecast gives us two days of rain. I have a double stroller with canopies. Will a rain poncho over them be good enough, or do I need a stroller rain cover? Any tips to doing disney in the rain with little kids?

I wish I had a stroller cover but before I left on my trip in Dec couldn't find one. If you have one bring it. I got ponchos at Walmart for about $3. I got them in the Camping section.

.. and I didn't care. I celebrated my birthday on the 26th of January. The forecast called for rain, and I was prepared for it. I had a marvelous time that day, rain or shine.

Besides getting the ponchos my other tip would be to bring an extra set of clothes for each kiddo.

That way if they get very wet or jump in a puddle you can change them right away.

We just did a day of really hard rain at disney with our 3 and almost 6 year old. I decided to buy a rain cover for our double jogger last minute. I ordered one off amazon for $15 (it's a graco but worked ok on our stroller). It was well worth it even for the 1 day. Stroller was totally dry and kids had a nice dry place to go! The kids had ponchos on and my son (the older one) ended up wearing his snow pants. My daughter's legs were fine though. They both wore rain boots as well as heavy jackets under their ponchos. I bought those 2.5 gal ziploc bags and kept extra clothes for us in there (full change just in case). We had a fabulous time and the lines were all walk on. I would take the rain over the crowds any day! My husband and I had full rain suits with pants and the jacket and I bought some nice bog shoes that are meant for the rain and my feet were dry and toasty warm. I think it's worth being prepared and then it'll be a fabulous day! We did call it a day by 5 and went to rainforest for dinner. In part because we'd done soooo much and in part because we were just sort of tired of being out in the rain.

Have fun and don't worry about it too much but be prepared!

I would definitely get a cover that will fit your stroller or at least closely fit it. The ponchos tend to shift easily and if there is any wind they will be all over the place. As long as the stroller stays dry and the kiddos have a change of clothes in case you will be good. I tried the poncho thing once and my stroller got wet while we were on a ride - we ended up having to carry DS around the rest of the day and that is something you don't want to have to do!

I'd invest in the cover, if you can get one in time. Our Babies R Us had them, but I ordered one from Walmart.com that fit my stroller because it was a bit cheaper. The baby stayed drier than we did! The cover fits very close to the stroller, so no worries about the wind blowing it up, and it has some nice vents so I didn't need to worry about the baby getting suffocated or too hot. Also, it comes down far enough that we were able to put our bags in the stroller basket and they stayed dry, as well. We would stick our stuff on the seat of the stroller when we went indoors or on a ride, and didn't have to worry about a sudden shower ruining everything before we got back to it. If you don't have time to get the cover, then take some clothespins with you and use them to hold the poncho down so the wind can't whip it up. Or maybe see if you can get a plastic tablecloth - that might cover a double stroller better than a poncho would.

Babies r us is giving me a $5 coupon to use tomorrow, so I will go see if they have the rain cover. if not, I'll be in the city and can hit all the other baby gear selling stores. I'll go find a rain cover. I'll be sure to bring spare clothes. We'll also be bringing the boots, though they are snow boots. I'm not buying a family's worth of rain boots just for our trip.

Being at DL in the rain with kids is waaaaay more involved than without kids.

I'd just make sure that the cover fits really well. A few years ago I had a stroller that got caught in a storm in WDW while we were on a ride. The cover had partially blown off and the stroller was soaked. For that matter, if you can, put something waterproof on the seat to line it. The seat on the stroller was soaking wet and my son couldn't sit in it. After that when it looked like rain I used to take the large garbage bags and lay it on the seat and then lay a beach towel over it for my son to sit on.
