In St. Martin, can you...?

We plan to do the French Riviera beach excursion to Orient Bay on our eastern cruise; I think it leaves around 9:30 and lasts about 4-5 hrs. My question is, how close are you to the French capital, Marigot while there--- can you go shopping while at this beach? If not, would we have enough time when we got back from the beach to take a taxi to Marigot to shop and make it back to the ship in plenty of time?

Marigot is on the complete other side of the island from Orient Beach. I suggest that instead of taking the French Beach rendevous, that if you rent a car you can go visit Orient Beach in the AM, then get some lunch onboard, and go check out Marigot in the PM. IMO Marigot is a much nicer place than Phillipsburg, but the amount of stores open in Marigot depends on the part of the year. If you go sept-nov. not many stores are open they tend to close down during the hurricane season.
