The only movie theater in the South Lake Tahoe area, the Heavenly Village Cinemas, is now closed for good. Unless you have a car and are able to muster the courage to drive to theaters nearly 20 miles away, the only way local South Lake Tahoe residents can see ANY releases (not just Disney releases) is to wait until the hype is dead when movies go to a streaming service. Streaming CANNOT and WILL NOT replace IN PERSON, REAL CINEMA.

that's lousy-noone that is familiar with the area would want to drive from south shore to north shore in the bad weather (or anytime it's flooded with tourists). similar situation with a ski area nearish to us in idaho-they had a nice little movie theater that served several little communities as well as the year round tourists but a developer came in and bought up a bunch of the downtown area tearing down the movie theater along with a bunch of other cool and funky shops. now the closest one is over 45 miles away

Yeah… that’s bad. I guess this generation will NOT get to experience the magic of ACTUAL REAL MOVIEGOING… streaming DOESN'T COUNT. If you have a movie theater in your area… support it as much as possible! Even if studios do simultaneous releases on streaming, pick the theaters!

I always thought the local in SLT was bad for a local. Having to pay for parking or finding a side street to walk from, dealing with the tourists crowded in the area and the traffic.

Winter time is the time for Movies but I certain wouldn’t want to try to the valley with any treating inclement weather, so it is sad there will no longer be a place to go.
