Hey yall. Im new to the DIS, this is my first trip report. My little family and I just returned from our second trip to WDW of 09. We had a wonderful time and I wanted to share a little of the magic with you!
We live in metro Atlanta so we drove down early on Nov 19th. Maisie (22mo) was surprisingly good during the car ride. All she could talk about was No Wite (Snow White) and Big Da-Boom (Big Winnie the Pooh).
We arrived at Animal Kingdom Lodge at about 1pm and were met by a concierge representative at the door. He actually saw us coming and knew who we were! I was so relieved to be able to check in early. He took us straight to our room. We stayed club level on the 4th floor.
From our room we could see zebra, giraffe and all sorts of wild cattle and antelope. After we dropped our bags off we went off in search of food. We are vegetarian so we were fully prepared to be eating cheese pizza for 5 days straight. We were pleasantly surprised by the quick service restaurant The Mara. They had the standard cheese pizza and a veggie which featured goat cheese and olives (yum). After lunch we headed back to the room for a quick nap then ate dinner at Boma. It is a buffet, but I was kinda disappointed at their options. We ate enough, but I was hoping for some vegetarian entrees and instead felt like I was filling up on sides. Overall it was good, but I wouldnt have paid for it if we werent on the dining plan! After dinner we decided to take a dip in the pool. I loved the layout, the fact that it was zero entry was great for Maisie, it wasnt however quite as heated as I expected. We splashed around for a while then headed to bed to rest up for Animal Kingdom!
Friday the 20th was our fist day at a park!! We headed out to Animal Kingdom bright and early. We went straight back to the Kilimanjaro Safari. The line was short and the animals were awesome! I was very impressed with the layout.
After the safari we sought out Mickey & friends for a photo opt. We were a little worried about how our toddler would react to the characters, but needles to say she was beyond thrilled!
After the pics we headed to Dino land so that the little one could have some fun. She loved the boneyard play ground and the TriceraTop Spin.
After lunch we headed back to Rafikis planet watch. Maisie was less interested in the animals and more into Jiminiy cricket
At this point it was becoming obvious that naps were a necessity. We went back to the hotel for a rest then headed to Epcot for the evening. Lots of the Christmas decorations were up and the park looked beautiful! After Spaceship Earth and the Maelstrom, we found a spot to watch Illuminations! Well, that was the first big flop of our trip. Maisie HATED the fireworks. Fortunately she didnt scream and cry, she just held her eyes shut and maintained a death grip on her daddy!
After about 20 minutes we called a close on day 1.
Saturday Nov 22 we decided to take a rest. We had breakfast at Chef Mickeys which was wonderful, especially for vegetations (though maybe not vegans). We ate lots and took tons of great pictures.
Mickey came back to our table 3 times. Maisie wouldnt stop hugging & kissing him!
After breakfast we headed to the Boardwalk for a bike ride. Maisie enjoyed waving at everyone, and my hubby and I had fun burning off our breakfast!
We stopped in the Boardwalk bakery for a bite and were pleasantly surprised with their mozzarella tomato sandwich (tasty). By now it was nap time (again) so we rested up and headed out to Fort Wilderness for Mickeys backyard BBQ. Ive got to say I was not impressed! It was like total and complete mayhem! It took forever to get there, it was super crowded and the food was subpar. Maisie was one of the youngest attempting to dance with the characters. Poor baby girl didnt have a chance.
The other kids (and their parents) totally mobbed the characters. She opted to dance with her little Minnie.
She did get some love from Chip. Look at that smile...
