In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Ronda, thanks for pointing out the 86 days, I am even more freaked out now:scared1: I don't have a trip plan other than to finish the race. :lmao:

I have not ran in 7 days, my last run was thanksgiving.
I am fighting a bad bad bad cough, and still waiting for the girls to get the flu. 3 more kids for Alexa's class were out today, she only has 15 total. But so far so good, no flu.

I hope this week on my BUTTERPANTS (Lisa) ;) has not set me back,
I have a 5K on Satuday, and I hope to get a long run in on Friday or Sunday.

On the shoes, my first pair of real running shoes were Saucany (I know I am spelling that wrong) and this time I got Nike ($118), the running store said I may need the extra cushion for a longer distance, I think he was tring to be nice and not say, "beacuse you weigh more, you need more padding on your feet"

For a year now I have been so focused on this race I think I needed this break the week, but again I hope it has not set me back.

New Month, New Start!!! WISH ME LUCK

I thought I'd share with you guys the funniest thing to happen to me this week. I have insisted with my parents that we all be in the Christmas spirit. That we be thankful to be together and really enjoy this year. So we were out at Target just wandering in all the Christmas stuff. I grab this ball that looks like one of those super bouncy balls that can bounce like twenty feet in the air. I whip it down on the ground to see how far it can bounce and......

SMASH!!!! It wasn't a bouncy ball at all, it was a glass ball. It shattered and made a huge crashing noise in front of all these people. My parents and I were laughing so hard it took twice as long to tell someone what happened.

Of course we leave Target and my mom's reaction to the whole thing? She was really disappointed that she had her back turned when I did it. (MY dad did witness it.)

Whooops! :rotfl:

CLEAN UP ON ISLE 5 :lmao::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

Irv, I wasn't even IN aisle five!

Meg - instant classic!

Jo - butterpants! I forgot about butterpants! Thanks.

Hi Everyone...

My running shoes for the Princess were a pair of Addidas. I loved, loved, loved them. I had tried on New Balance, Saucony and didn't like them. It came down to the Addidas and a pair of Mizunos and I went with the Addidas. No blisters - ever! Eliminated the hot spots that I started getting when my long walks hit 8 + miles by changing socks and I was blissfully happy for the rest of my training and during the race. I was fitted at a local Fleet Feet store. They are a franchise so they are all over the country.

I am doing all right today. Last night's sleep was a bit wonky so I was battling a headache all day. The rain and the wind didn't help at all, especially when we found the 1/2" of water inside the building! Thanks guys for leaving the roof drain plugged with your garbage... :rolleyes1

Food wise I am doing alright today. Totally on plan with the exception of a small scone. I ate JC at my three meals today which is the first time that that has happened in a long, long time! Had a great workout with Jesse tonight. Squats, lunges and bent over rows followed by 30 minutes of spinning. I did some hill work and a round of intervals so if the readout is to be believed (ha ha) I did 10 miles in 30 minutes.

Jesse suggested that I consider working out with him for four 30 minute sessions (+15 minute warm up on my own) followed by 30 minutes of cardio for a while instead of my usual two 30 minute sessions and one 60 minute session. The 30 minute sessions are definitely faster paced and burn more calories, but the longer sessions give me more of a strength training workout. I am not sure which is better to kick me into gear at this point. Thoughts?

Nancy - I am starting my baking this weekend. Peanut butter balls anyone? My goal is to not sample my way through it all too.

Jo - I meant to tell you yesterday to definitely check out the TNT program. They are a wonderful group of people and the coaching I got was fantastic. The fundraising can be a bit scary, but it is not as bad as you think. The key is to start early.

Cathie - good luck with the end of the semester. That sounds like a lot to do for one class but I have been away from the educational system for many, many years so what do I know.

Meg - I am still laughing at your story. Too funny...

Ronda - thanks for checking on me :). I am starting to get a handle on things. Really.

Kelly - stay warm and dry.

Liz, Erika and everyone else - hi!!!!

Which shoe?

I have NB 1012, with the NB cushioning insole. Love them.

Today was uneventful. The cable guy came tonight and fixed some wiring problems that prevented us from getting HD. Much better. Another cable guy was here last week to replace the cable modem. Next time they get cookies!

Yay! :yay:

I tracked and drank.

:drinking1 :confused3 :rotfl2:

SMASH!!!! It wasn't a bouncy ball at all, it was a glass ball.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: OMG Meg! That sounds like something *I* would do!!!

Hi dolls!

I am SO glad we are all (almost!) on here and checking in. It's not failure, it's setbacks, and they happen to us ALL. But we get through it together!

Sooo, catching up. Yes, no heat one day and internet was down...same circuit breaker. WHY no one checked that is beyond me, but I reset it, and got the building guy to get the heat fixed, too! Then today torrential downpours and a transformer blew near us...no electricity at all! But we have candles and can still do our main work. We just wrote down clients' credit card numbers! I'm training a new girl (this makes No 5 since I started last Oct - one quit, one stayed, and two got fired) and she is a DOLL. So far so good! But exhausting to talk all day long! But get this - she's headed to WDW tomorrow! Her family is Disney freaks and they are surprising her step-dad, who just got diagnosed with prostate cancer. All his kids, her, and her half-sib are showing up in the MK Friday to surprise him. SOOO cool. So I think she and I can get along just fine with the Disney connection!

Anyhoo, Kat, I wear the SAME exact shoes. I've been fitted four times, and at three different places, and they all put me in those. I did get hotspots at mile 11, even with good socks, but the glide helped. I think I just get hotspots.

So I lost .5 from last week, but this week I am still weighing every day and using the new WW system. Down 3lbs so far...but you know I"ll take anything by Monday morning. However, my goal is to stay within my points. I am liking the new system so far!

Hmm, what else? What have I missed?

YES! Meg! Awesome story!!!! Way funny. Like super duper classic. Write it down in your journal.

What's going on at work?

My thoughts are complex, but they boil down to this: do it. I think the switch up will be good for both your body and your mind. :goodvibes

I'm so aggrevated with myself. Workouts are awesome. Food is not. bah. I need to stop the excuses and get myself back on track.

Off to bed early for me tonight. I have an early morning tomorrow.

Night, Nancy!

Nancy - I want to hear the complex thoughts too. Please? I am leaning towards doing it but oy - my schedule is going to take a hit.

Liz - I'll take cleaning up water to no heat any day.

YOU reset the circuit breaker? OMG you totally rock. Rain and winds were fierce here today too. Got a bit scary for a while, but thankfully no issues.

But get this - she's headed to WDW tomorrow! Her family is Disney freaks and they are surprising her step-dad, who just got diagnosed with prostate cancer.

How awesome is that! Well, the surprise trip part, not the cancer part. That's a bummer, and I hope that they caught it early.

My thoughts are this: Nancy is right. :goodvibes

Night, Nancy!

:cool2:

Totally random. But what the heck is with the Charmin commercials "enjoy the go?!?! Really?

ok. going to bed now for real.

Those commercials are gross.

My mom wants a rosary for Christmas. I'm pouring over them online. One of the weirdest things I've intently shopped for.

Also, Advent wreat with writing and silver or with holly...oy vey. And my kid wishes she was Jewish! HA!

Seriously the circuit breaker was nothing. But get this, a MAN worked the day before and never checked it!

Thankfully we have space heaters in every room so we just turned them up and toasted ourselves!

Cancer, they think they did, so it will be okay. I have a feeling this dollfaced girl has had a challenging life, but she is so sweet and lovely. One of those. You just want to take her home.

Nancy - I want to hear the complex thoughts too. Please? I am leaning towards doing it but oy - my schedule is going to take a hit.

I'm thinking that you will love it for a number of reasons.

-change of pace, mentally something "new"
- your body will be challenged in different ways and will thusly be forced to respond differently
- the additional day of strength training will help build additional muscle which will in turn burn more calories at rest
- the addition of cardio to your formerly longer strength session will give you more calorie burn for your total workout without lengthening your workout session

ok, really REALLY going to bed now.

What's going on at work?

There's a lot I'd like to share just to get it off my chest but due to the nature of what I do I can't share a lot so publicly. But it's come down to me feeling like the children are becoming less of a priority and well the teachers... we aren't a priority at all. I have been asked to do things I don't feel comfortable with and I do refuse to do them. I think I can only get away with this because they realize I'm really good at what I do and they typically just hire anyone so they know they are lucky when they get a good teacher. They don't want to push me too far because they want me to stay. Normally it's me and my co-teacher with 9 kids. We are short staffed right now due to the fact that they have lost a bunch of teachers and just aren't replacing them. So I've been asked to move my kids into an older classroom and be alone with 4 kids. It is relaxing in some ways but it is very stressful to be in a classroom for 8 hours straight and having to ask for someone to cover you any time you need to step out to pee, let alone if I need to get any supplies that aren't in my room. Not to mention the strong objection I have to moving kids into other classes. There's more but as I said I can't share it on such an open forum. I'm positive I have to find a new job but I'm struggling to figure out if I should just go back to the world of cubicles and computers or if I could find a center that was run well that I could believe in again. The worst part is my eating is so messed up because I either don't feel like eating at work or I don't eat then eat one really bad thing. I know this is not good but I feel like I spend 8-4 just trying to make sure I'm on for the kids, being on for myself is secondary right now. Sorry that all just kind of spilled out.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the story about me breaking the ball. Believe me my parents and I were all laughing so hard, my stomach was hurting I was laughing so hard.

Paula- I think you should go for the 30 minute sessions. I'm trying to put myself in your shoes and I think that would probably be the jump start to get back into the swing of things. You can always go back to the two 30 minutes and one 60 when you feel like you're back on track.

Cathie- Almost to the end of the semester, hang in there!

Ronda- Have I mentioned how glad I am that you're around? I swear reading your posts helps me even if I never really mention it.

Nancy- Chocolate mint whoopie pies? My family loves whoopie pies, tell me about these!

Liz- Sounds like an exciting and chilly time without power!

All this sneaker talk. I am probably due for new sneakers and I really don't like my pair I have now. I'm almost afraid to go back to the store I got them at. I need to find out how to get the right sneakers for a person with bunions.

Liz - okay, we watched Christmas Vacation last week and your circuit breaker thing made me think of Clark's lights and Helen figuring out the switch. LOVE that movie. So bad, so good! A guilty pleasure. Oh, and Hanukkah last EIGHT DAYS! I can see the attraction.

Meg - Your job is tough. The conflict between right-for-the-kids and what TPTB want has got to be hard. The kids are fortunate to have you. Thanks for the pump, too. It feels nice.

Nancy - It's hard to fire on all cylinders. This time of year I'm pleased to stay within sight of the tracks.

Paula - I'm going to dissent and say protect your schedule. Time is the one commodity you absolutely control. With it, you vote your priorities. I know you like the structure and obligation of working out with Jesse. Before you surrender the time, look for strenght/core exercises you can do at home. Don't go all P90X on us, but find something you can work in. BTW, I know myself too well to allow PB balls on my cookie list. mmmmm....

DGF's cold is getting colder ; ) She slept well though. Makes the day easier to start.

My run this morning was cool. 32 degrees, but very little wind. I can do that! Five miles at 11:21 average. Speed is slowly coming. I was hoping for 13:00 at the Donald a year ago. This is great. I need to get off the dime and commit $ to the St Louis full. It's not real until someone spends money ; )

Kelly - can you hear us in there?! What an ordeal for so many people.

Ronda

Hi Everyone *Sticking my head out of the snow to say hello!*

Still snowing...its supposed to stop by Sunday! Tonight is going to be the coldest night - down to -15c actual temperature! (Is there a freezing cold smiley? No? I'll use this one then :faint: )
I couldn't get to work yesterday, 15 inches of snow had fallen and I couldn't get off the street! Managed to get there today, a 5 minute walk to the train station took just over an hour, a 10 minute train journey took 30 minutes and a 10 minute walk to work took 45 minutes! I was very late, but so was everyone else! I got there at 10am and we went home at 3pm. Same again tomorrow!

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that yesterday practically the whole country came to a standstill. We are sadly unable to cope with bad weather. The roads were slightly better today - people have been stuck in gridlock traffic for 24 hours but are now free! Crazy weather.

Hope everyone is well :cool2:

great words of wisdom. All of it. :lovestruc

and look at you go Ronda! You've taken over 90 seconds off your average mile time. Impressive!

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that yesterday practically the whole country came to a standstill.

Yikes! Funny, but I haven't seen anything on our news about your snow. Guess it hasn't yet interfered with the royal wedding plans princess:

more cookies today at work. I managed to not stuff one of every variety into my mouth today, so a win for me! :thumbsup2

Laundry, grocery lists, packing lists, meeting at school - that's my agenda for this evening. Getting ready to leave Saturday for a week in San Diego (sans children) :woohoo: Do I need a permission slip signed for my absence? ;)

Great Run Time Ronda!!

WOW, Kelly thats alot of snow. You are better than me for treking to work, I would of stayed home

Meg. The kids are lucky to have you. I hope this all works out. And you never know, their may be a center out there that you would love more.

Paula. I say 30 mins power train!

Great Job on not eating the cookies today Nancy, I forgot your were going on vaca. :confused3

I am feeling like major poop. I have a 5K on Saturday and I think I am going to bail. I feel so bad about it. First I have this bad cough, I have not ran in 8 day. (hope to run alitltle tomorrow) Saturday we have a wake we have to go to in the afternoon and we have to get the girls to his brothers who is going to take them to the Santa thing in the morning. I am so sad that I would not be at the Santa thing, So if I bail on the race and don't run in 4" of snow that we are to get, I go with the kids to the Santa thing the to the wake without having to drive back an hour ish home.

Does that make sence??? I know I am a wienne for not going to the race right?

Paula, talked to TNT today and I so want to do it, they said I should do the Chicago FULL. Are they CRAZY. I would have to rais $1000. The bigger problem is I don't know how much training I can make it to, its about 50 mins away and with the kdis and work, and DH's always unknow schedule. So I am just going to wait for now, maybe 2012 we will see.

Sorry for the long Post.

OH Liz:yay::yay::yay: I say on the princess thread that you registered for the princess!!:yay::yay::yay:

Hi Everyone *Sticking my head out of the snow to say hello!*

I SO need a picture of that. :rotfl2: Work it Kelly and get me a shot of you in a snow bank. Come on. I bet you look so cute in your winter hat! And I know you rarely get snow so get to it - it will be a memorable shot.

Wow, we are greener than green and I live in a resort town so the snowboarders/skiers are probably livid.

Maybe tomorrow. Temperature is supposed to drop. Nancy! There's always tomorrow...

Getting ready to leave Saturday for a week in San Diego (sans children) :woohoo: Do I need a permission slip signed for my absence? ;)

I'll sign it on my way to Tijuana with a margarita in my hand.

Lovely. So lovely. Have fun Nancy!!!!!

Hi to all. :goodvibes

I have my entire family up here this weekend. I've done a pre-Christmas dinner and out to the movies day for years on end. It's not usually this early but everyone is so booked.

Hey look at Nancy sneaking some French in there.
