In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Love your edit reason Nancy!

I am here ~ one kiddo tonight, one with the Ex at a ball game. I hope everybody has a safe and happy 4th!

And now the purse report coming right up!

Remember how I brought up wanting a Coach or Dooney from the outlet mall during our trip and that was ALL I wanted? Well, I changed my mind. Instead I bought 3 purses and gave one to my mom. No, not 3 Coach. OMG! I don't have that kind of money. Instead, I bought 3 purses for half the price of the Coach I was spying on.

Mom and I left the kids with my aunt and ventured out to tackle the outlet sans kiddos. Destination ==> Coach! We found the store and was given a 10% coupon by a rep. I went straight for the clearance stuff and nothing jumped out at me. So I made a lap around the store and still didn't find anything except one out of my price range. I had a revelation right in the middle of the outlet store much like Lyz talked about (driving to the outlet, going in, and not being knocked over). It could be that a massive electrical storm was messing with my neurons or it could have been that I just came to my senses :confused3 but, I decided Coach just wasn't for me. I didn't do any other homework on purse shops. I was lost! So what did I do?!? I found a directory and went to work.

Within moments, I located the Fossil store. I wasn't expecting much at all because the Fossil purses in our Macy's aren't all that and are outragous. Again, the first place I looked was clearance and struck gold! The original price on the bag was almost $115. I bought it for $37 after tax! Mom was looking too, but couldn't find one that she liked better than mine (she didn't want us to have twin purses). I will get a pic from Mom.

So, fast forward a few days and we end up at another outlet mall. We eventually hit up another Fossil store. And in the clearance section I again find a purse that I adore! I paid about $40 after tax for this one.

After thinking for a moment, I played Let's Make a Deal with Mom. It became her birthday present 2 months early.

"But wait," you exclaim! "That's only 2 purses!" Number 3 is coming up right now:

Mickey1-1.gif

I bought this on our last day in Florida before heading to the Magic Kingdom to say goodbye. I bought it at Tren-D.

And here is a close up. Check out my platinum glitter nail tips, I just got this week too:

I consider my purchase to be a steal. I got it for $28! As for the store itself, I thought it was kinda cute. I liked their jewelry, but can't fit in the clothes yet. I don't think I would buy anything other than jewelry or a bag there either.

AMIEE!!! Oh my Gosh!!! I love that Mickey bag. LOVE it!!!!! And your nails are cute too, lol. Oh and I can't wait to go to Tren-D. My girls and I will LOVE it. We are so girly and hip.

Race is done! And in case anyone was wondering, it was freaking hot. Doesn't matter what time of day it is. The luminaries over the causeway were beautiful. And the moon is near full and was casting pretty light on the bay. Other than that it was really dark and I about tripped myself on some of those road reflectors. They were giving out bathroom sized cups of water and gatorade at the finish. I mean, you could go back for a refill, but that cup probably wouldn't hold the amount of sweat dripping off me at that point.

The run went well up until mile 2, I was on pace for just under 12 minute miles, which while not my best 5k effort ever, was better than a couple weeks ago. Then I get this pain on the side of my knee. Not excruciating exactly, but a stabbing pain on the outside of my right knee. Never felt it before. Any ideas of what it might be? So I ended up wogging and hobbling it in, for a 38ish finish. Yuck.

These past couple races have officially frustrated me enough in terms of stamina and pace that I am putting myself back on C25K, probably at week 3 or 4. I know some of it has to do with the heat, but mostly I have slacked off WAY too much. So, on tuesdays, thursdays, and Saturdays, someone needs to make me accountable for it.

I am showered, hydrated and drinking wine!!!

Cheers!

Thanks for the purse report!

I SO wanted to love Tren-D but just didn't. :confused3

Aim! GREAT job on the midnight run! I am DYING to do a night race! As for outside of the knee...careful there, girly, sounds like the beginning of IT band syndrome. Yikes! IT runs from the outside of your hip right down to the outside of your knee, so the pain can be anywhere in there, but outside of the knee is wicked common. I know what books you have and most of them will cover IT band stuff. I'll check and see what else it might be.

Here is some basic IT band info:

(I bolded the stuff that sounds exactly like what you said.) Quick question: are you running on roads with a crowned surface? I am guessing that since FL gets so much rain, as a rule, that the roads are pretty well crowned. If so, that is the culprit. You are always running on a slight "slant." Cure: run both directions on the same side of the street.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome

Definition: Pain and inflammation on the outside of the knee, where the iliotibial band (a muscle on the outside of the thigh) becomes tendinous, and results in a friction syndrome by rubbing against the femur (thigh bone) as it runs alongside the knee joint.

Symptoms:
Initially, a dull ache 1-2 kilometres into a run, with pain remaining for the duration of the run. The pain disappears soon after stopping running, later, severe sharp pain which prevents running pain is worse on running downhills, or on cambered surfaces pain may be present when walking up or downstairs.
Local tenderness and inflammation

Causes:
Anything that causes the leg to bend inwards, stretching the ITB against the femur overpronation (feet rotate too far inward on impact) tightness of the ITB muscle lack of stretching of the ITB incorrect or worn shoes excessive hill running (especially downhills) and running on cambered surfaces overtraining

Treatment

Self-treatment:
Stop running, especially in the case of severe pain if pain is mild, then reduce training load and intensity, and avoid downhill running and running on cambered surfaces.
Take a course (5 - 7 days) of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen/voltaren/cataflam/mobic) available from your general practitioner or pharmacist.
Apply ice to the knee (for 10minutes every 2 hours) in order to reduce the inflammation
Self-massage, using arnica oil or an anti-inflammatory gel, to the muscle only (along the outside of the thigh). Do not massage the side of the knee where you feel the pain, as this will only aggravate the friction syndrome stretching of the ITB. Stand with the right leg crossed in the back of the left leg. Extend the left arm against a wall/pole/chair/other stable object. Lean your weight against the object while pushing your right hip in the opposite direction. Keep your right foot anchored while allowing your left knee to flex. You should feel the stretch in the ITB muscle in the right hip and along the outside of the right thigh. Hold for 30 sec. Relax slowly.

Repeat to opposite side. Repeat stretch 2 - 3 times per day.
Remember to stretch well before running
Return to running gradually
Full recovery is usually between three to six weeks

Medical treatment:
Physiotherapy, if injury doesn't respond to self-treatment in 2 to 3 weeks
Orthotist or podiatrist for custom-made orthotics to control overpronation
Orthopaedic surgeon - if injury does not respond to physiotherapy treatment, a cortisone injection into the ITB, or surgery to release the ITB may be indicated.

Alternative exercises:
Swimming, pool running, cycling (in low gear) "spinning"
Avoid any exercise that places strain onto the ITB, specifically, avoid stair-climbing

Preventative measures:
Stretching of the ITB, quadriceps, hamstring, and gluteal muscles. Hold each stretch for 30 seconds, relax slowly. Repeat stretches 2 - 3 times per day. Remember to stretch well before running.
Strengthening of quadriceps, hamstring and calf muscles.

Correct shoes, specifically motion-control shoes and orthotics to correct overpronation
Gradual progression of training program
Avoid excessive downhill running, and cambered roads (stay on the flattest part of the road)
Incorporate rest into training program

E--Thanks for the IT band info! It was on the mental list of possibilities I made while I was getting through the last mile. It describes the pain EXACTLY. It feels okay now and I did ice it for a bit. The roads are definitely crowned. And I think the sidewalks are too in some places. I can really tell when I am pushing D in the stroller.

One thing about running at night, is that I am now totally WIDE awake. Even though I am on my 3rd glass of wine.

As soon as I crossed the finish and got the chip cut off, I hear some guy who finished right after me ask his friend for a cig. Umm, you just ran 3.1 miles and you want a smoke???

They had a 1 mile "fun" run too. A WOMAN won it and she finished in 4 minutes and change. the first guy was a good 15 seconds behind her. Awesome! Some people ran all three races, for a nice 10 ish mile evening!

Is this waking up the thread or putting it to bed?

We had storms move thorough and I cannot get back to sleep.

Those are my days, too, Amy. You're on!

We're driving halfway to St Louis tomorrow to get S's mom home. S's sister will meet us there. The week has ended much better than it started.

I have thought about tatoos in the past and couldn't find something I could live with forever. The 13.1/26.2 Mickey sounds cool.

Going to go back to bed.

Ronda

Safe travels, Ronda! I hope you are more relaxed once you have your house back to yourselves. I understand that feeling.

Liz--we will need a party report.

Here--OMG, the sun is OUT. Shining! Brightly! It has been weeks. We had massive thunder storms roll through all night, but apparently they blew through and now we will have sun at least for the first half of the day.

More chores today! Ugh! But it also feels good to get this crap taken care of. Yesterday we took an entire pick-up truck full of stuff to Good Will. We continue purging today.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Erika - Yay for the sun :cool1:

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! :upsidedow

happy 4th of july!!!

LISA! Where have you been? Missed you. Is that a new tag? I don't remember that on you before. My son has a t-shirt that says that....

Amy - careful of that IT band business. Try to take care of it before it gets to be a real problem.

Erika - sun is out here today too! :cheer2: Supposed to be beautiful today AND tomorrow :dance3: God, how I've missed the sunshine :upsidedow

Ronda - glad your visit w/ MIL was good. Safe travels!

Kelly - :lmao:I don't know why I think it's funny for you to wish us a Happy Independence Day. Were you glad to get rid of us? :confused3

We have family coming for a picnic this afternoon. Should be a great day!

Hi Nancy, no not new, it has been there awhile...I just haven't been around!! I have the Athletes Run tee.

I am still adjusting things with the new job. Not liking anything about it so far and really sorry I made the change. I am hoping that passes. I miss everyone here but, frankly, when I get home from work, I don't care if I see the computer again and I have no time for surfing at work right now. Hence my absence. That and my foul mood with the disdain of my choice and some other happenings in my life right now. On the up side, I am managing to run or walk about 4 days a week and lift at home for 2. Not completely off track just a little sideways!!

Miss you all!!

:rotfl2: It made me laugh when I wrote it - I thought 'They wanted to be independent from me, and here I am following them around!' You can't be rid of me that easily :lmao:

Have a fab picnic! :)

I like that :thumbsup2

Sorry that your job switch hasn't turned out to be fabulous  We miss you too! Drat that nasty 4 letter word (work :rolleyes1).

:lmao: I know! I mean we LIKE you. So why did we ever want to ditch you guys in the first place? :confused3

Good Morning Everybody!

Did somebody say rain? We have it. Nothing big, but we should have some big storms tonight. On top of that, I can't breathe. I hope it's allergies.

I really don't want to go to the reunion. It's not that I don't want to see my relatives. Nope, I just need to get away from my mother. She's driving me insane.

As far as the dieting goes, I am day 6. Other than 2 drinks I had last night, I am on. The excess water weight is leaving because my ring is loose again. Yesterday at work was nice because I wore shorts and got some complements. :cool1:

LisaPR - I'm so sorry you are not happy with the new job. I took a job once that I loathed. Work from home crap. I HATED it. I still get depressed thinking about it.

I had to go to houses and report back for insurance agencies. I'd have to measure the actual square footage of the perimeter of the house, report any trampolines or pools or vicious dogs or dangerous situations and take pictures. I had just found out I was pregnant with Madeline. After developing the pictures and putting gas in my car to get over 4 different counties I must have made 42 cents. I get the sick & frustrated feeling you must feel.

This whole conversation is HI LAR IOUS!!!

Great job. I want to wear shorts.

I'm on as far as weight lifting (which I've been doing for about 3 weeks now) and squats, but my eating is HORRIFIC. I am sabotaging my efforts. I haven't really been walking/woging to get my heart rate up. I just hate it. It makes me ill. So I'm focusing on what I enjoy right now, I figure if I see some changes the other will follow.

The weather here today is scattered showers but the high is 73. Which I am thrilled about. If I am spending the day in parks I don't want to glisten and stink. Just saying.
